Re: Introductions Thread - Who are you & What the Hell dya w
I remember hearing this back when I was but a wee-kid:
Sober
[BBvideo 560,340][/BBvideo]
Then of course I saw this plea for communication at the age of 12:
[BBvideo 560,340][/BBvideo]
After which I was exposed to this in 2009:
[BBvideo 560,340][/BBvideo]
Now I am here anticipating my first tool concert. To everyone who kills the band for continuing to tour without a new album, I present myself as living proof of gratitude towards the creative quartet for continuing this escapade we all have come to grow and love; to that we know as Live TOOL. This learning experience never ends. The fact that I have been exposed to all 6 of their releases in the span of 4-5 years is nothing short of awesome in my book. New album or not, I am happy to have discovered such a gem/jam.
So while you all fret and get your p's twisted, I will celebrate this opportunity to jam TOOL AMAP.

"Plea for communication"
I've always thought Schism is about the problems May Jay and the guys had after APC unexpectedly blew up back in the day. People like to talk shit about Puscifer interfering but (as far as we know) APC was the only thing that almost broke them up.
Just a thought sprung from that line.

Maybe for May Nard. It was such a hit song though, I cannot help but think of "Schism" as an anthem for the masses. One that portrays the importance and implications of communication or lack thereof.Ravenpig wrote:"Plea for communication"

Hi, Calfium here.
I am a 40 year old single male from Melbourne Australia who works in finance by day and djs "experimental" music on radio by night.
I am generally a calm affable person by nature but have a tendency to let fly at others whose opinions I may find "unworthy" especially when it comes to politics.
Things I like
Cooking (mexican or anything spicy), eating out, swimming, working out at the gym, going to movies, walking, driving long distances, reading, playing snooker, watching AFL and talking well into the night with friends/girlfriends.
Music I like
Nurse With Wound, Merzbow, KTL, Iannis Xenakis, Brian Eno, Boredoms, Whitehouse, Godflesh, Death In June, Coil, Autechre, Sonic Youth, Andrew Chalk, John Cale, Earth, John Zorn, Wolf Eyes, Throbbing Gristle, Flaming Lips, Aphex Twin, Christian Fennesz, Sunn O))), Oren Ambarchi, Led Zeppelin, Miles Davis, Andrew Liles, Khanate, Andrew Coleclough, Swans, Captain Beefheart, Mr Bungle, Grizzly Bear, Velvet Underground, Pink Floyd, Dead C, Ulver, Burzum, Melvins, Nirvana, Napalm Death, Lord Mantis, Einsturzende Neubauten, Skullflower, Taj Mahal Travellers, Farmers Manual, Negativland, Sun City Girls, Current 93, Von Thronstahl, Troum, Scorn, Jim O'Rourke, Acid Mothers Temple, Alice Cooper, Lustmord, Prurient, Vatican Shadow, The Orb, Kraftwerk, Daniel Menche, Kevin Drumm, James Plotkin, Black Dice, Mayhem, Om....
Films I like
Films by: Woody Allen, Luis Buenel, Ingmar Bergman, Werner Herzog, Robert Altman, P.T Anderson, Dusan Makavejev, Jodorowsky, David Lynch, Scorsese, Hector Babenco, Tarkovsky..
Things I don't like
Just about anything else
Feel free to drop me a line...now that we know each other better.

Hi,
yes TDK is severly overrated, a mediocre movie. And yes, the Fountain is a fantastic movie. All time classic.
So you know that.
10,000 Days is the best album I ever listened. And yes, I did listen other music. But Ænima is a close second.
So you know this as well.

Hi. The Boss, here.
Frankly, the things you don't already know about me if you've been a regular contributor to this community since I've joined are probably either not worth knowing, or probably illegal.
And if you know nothing about me, then the less you know is probably the better.
I've always wanted to be like one of those seemingly pretentious art-house movies: It starts out kind of unassuming, but reveals itself to become this incredibly interesting and wonderfully unique experience celebrating the human condition. A rich, vibrant icon of Earth's celebration, of profound depth and child-like good-humour.
Unfortunately, I fear I'm more like a double episode of "JUDGE JUDY".
I like TOOL, though, and KATATONIA. I think that means I'm OK in this place, in the eyes of the regulars.
I also thought my nipple ring was finally starting to grow out the other day, but it turned out that I was merely cold.

Does no one rate Based Linklater's "BEFORE/AFTER" Trilogy?
The third film was so heavy that me and the mrs didn't speak for a few days.

Nope haven't seen it. That's one of his "later period" films when he, quite frankly, lost his touch.

Re: Introductions Thread - Who are you & What the Hell dya w
I have made a couple of posts now and after a not so auspicious start, I thought I would spark up this thread and introduce myself a little better.
I am 37 years old and live in the Gold Coast Hinterland, married and have 3 (now 2) kids. Last year my number 2 boy passed away after a year long battle with bone cancer, it has changed me (he was a character, made adults laugh, he was a lot more grown up than an 8 yo).... I am a scientist, and thankfully don't have a job in lab (dungeon), but do love what I do. I am a mad Star Wars fan and always have been (I grew up in the 80's)... I am also a huge Bill Hicks fan his philosophies are no different to my own, and I hold him in the highest regard...
Given I went through my teens in the 90's bands like RATM, and TOOL have always resonated with me and as I have gotten older TOOL, have penetrated deeper and deeper into my head...To the point where I probably obsess a little too much, but I suppose that is why this forum exists... As I mentioned in a post the other night, TOOL really helped me through the worst of the times after my son died, which sounds silly because they are just a band... But I found real solace in the tone of their music, it really kept me where I needed to be for my other children (again this may sound silly)...
I play guitar and bass (I assume many of you do), I have hacked away for 20 odd years now, and am still never happy with the fkn tone, I am constantly tweaking the knobs on all of my gear... ... The name PimPle is the shitty concept band (based on stupid spoonerism characters) that my best mate and I have had for years now, but both of us are so rediculously introverted that we will never actually play real music, so it is a long running gag really....
In any case, I joined this forum because, I really love Tool's music, and I enjoy the puzzles, be it real or not, I have read up on the riemann hypothesis and cesaro summation, because I like mathematics and it was fun to learn about this stuff (albeit well over my head)...
Please be kind to me I am a hardcore atheist and pacifist, I love a beer (and a smoke) but I don't do conflict....... Cheers.....
