I'm just starting to get used to the idea of seeing bands on the reg again. Unfortunately, however, so far this doesn't really include Auckland bands. Fuckers can't even play their own instruments, they suck so hard.
Still expecting to see at least one foreign/well-known act every month, though, so that's something to look forward to.

Re: Random Music News
new DVD from Meshugah.
Four years after the release of Alive, their last concert DVD, Meshuggah are back with another: The Ophidian Trek, due out this fall on DVD and BluRay with 2 CDs of the audio. No exact release date has been announced.
I lurv Meshuggah as much as the next guy, but here’s the thing: in 2014, the age of YouTube, is there really that much of a market for concert DVDs? I ask that as a genuine question to which I do not know the answer: do people buy this stuff? Outside of the obsessives that need to have everything, of course.
It seems as if someone has gone to great lengths to pull down from YouTube all of Meshuggah’s pro-shot footage from their 2013 Wacken performance — which is included on this DVD — which is noteworthy given how easy it is to find footage of nearly all the other bands that played. I guess this is smart business if you’re Nuclear Blast and about to release something you’re going to sell. But why not just leave it all up on YouTube and monetize it that way via ad revenue instead of going through the expensive rigamarole of manufacturing and shipping product? Those YouTube videos will continue to collect views forever whereas DVD sales will peter out shortly after release. I guess they must think they’ll sell a good number of these.
Speaking as a viewer, I’d rather just watch full-screen on YouTube than have another piece of plastic around the house, or connect it to my TV via AppleTV to have the real cinematic experience.
So, inquiring minds would like to know: do you still buy concert DVDs? Chime in below.
Here’s the tracklist. The visual component comes from the aforementioned Wacken performance and various shows around the US and Europe.
Live DVD:
01 – Swarmer
02 – Swarm
03 – Combustion
04 – Rational Gaze
05 – obZen
06 – Lethargica

09 – I Am Colossus
10 – Bleed

14 – Mind’s Mirrors / In Death – Is Life / In Death – Is Death
15 – The Last Vigil

Solace is quite likely my favorite record from the 'post-rock' genre ... and probably belongs on any list of top 5-10 records in that genre for anyone who has any taste in music whatsoever.joeypants wrote:The Boss wrote:

New Electric Wizard:
http://www.terrorizer.com/news/news-new ... pre-order/
Yeeeeeahh.....EW are ok. Nothing to get excited about but I have bought the odd release here and there.
Saw them back in 2005 and they were absolutely boring as hell.

Primus: Drummer Making Progress
AUGUST 2, 2014
Tim Alexander
Primus have issued another update regarding the health of their drummer Tim “Herb” Alexander.
Tim suffered a heart attack last month, and days later, had triple bypass surgery.
Alexander is expected to be back behind the kit with the band for their October tour.
Says a statement:
“Tim has been home from the hospital for about 5 days and is making great progress. Thanks to all Tim‘s friends in the music community and the fans for having Tim in their thoughts over the past two weeks. He is up walking around, starting some physical therapy and his wits about him as well. Unfortunately, we had to cancel the 2 set shows in Maplewood, Fargo and Clive as Tim wont be ready to play 2 sets in September. Tim is resting up at home and getting ready for his return to the stage on Oct 22nd at the Tower Theater in Philadelphia. We’ll be making a special announcement about both Riot Fest shows sometime in the near future.”

Re: Random Music News
I'm glad they didn't cancel the Riot Fests. They're one of the main reasons I'm going. How cool would it be if they got Danny to fill in for Tim?
Re: Random Music News
I will buy the shit out of that Meshuggah Blu Ray. I can't really be fucked these days to purchase almost anything in disc form if it's not a Blu Ray though. Streaming HD is still so incredibly unreliable that I'm a big Blu Ray supporter whether it's movies or concert films, which I love.N.Y.H.C. wrote:

Les Claypool is selling one of his basses for charity. If anyone want's to give me $60k I'll make a bid and put it up as a Fourtheye Subscribers prize:

A portion of the proceeds from the sales of these basses will go to Jacob's Heart.
Re: Random Music News
Les has been pretty generous in the past. I imagine it's quite a significant portion. Not Tyson wrote:A portion of the proceeds from the sales of these basses will go to Jacob's Heart.

It's a smart move. Buy a new guitar every few months then auction it off giving a portion to charity. It's a tax write off, you get new gear, the charity gets cash and a fan gets an overpriced piece of memorabilia while not feeling too screwed because it was for charity.
