Album of the Week - Earthless - From The Ages
Album of the Week - Earthless - From The Ages
Well, no one else seemed to be in a rush to post an album of the week, so as I got sick of waiting I shall post my second in a row!
Earthless are an instrumental rock band from San Diego. I was lucky enough to see them last year and they were fantastic. Despite my general apathy for instrumental albums, I found this one to be excellent - right up there with the recent Russian Circles release, though this album goes more down the stoner or psych rock path rather than the Circle's more post-rock focus.
Take a listen and post your reviews!

Eh. As far as "stoner, jam" bands go...I prefer Acid Mothers Temple.
I give it a 6 (just) out of 10.
The kind of music I might listen to on a humid, summer's evening while on a long drive in the country.

Well at least someone bothered to listen to it!

Haven't gotten a chance yet, but I plan on listening and reviewing it.

I'll probably listen to it eventually. I've heard of it, and have been meaning to check it out for a while now,but I just don't really feel like it right now.

Well, I was trying to give some one else a chance rather than post two in a row. Maybe this format is dead (again). Which would be a little sad, as while the Classic albums can be fun, personally I'd rather hear new or more obscure stuff. Not Tyson wrote:Should have posted it on the weekendhellboy wrote:Well at least someone bothered to listen to it!

Well that's what you get for trying to have your cake and eat it too.

Excellent pick Hellboy. I am just finishing my second pass now and it kept my interest throughout.
I guess I'll have to check them out too. Honestly, with Jay's track record, I'm not anticipating I'll like them.Calfium Jay wrote:I prefer Acid Mothers Temple.

hey, screw you. man ... I'll do what I want
anywho, listened earlier at work and found it enjoyable but not groundbreaking by any means ... sounded quite derivative of several very well-known classic rock bands in parts. Not sure I'd give it repeated listens with any regularity, but wouldn't have anything to complain about if I found myself somewhere and it was playing.
7-ish/10

Re: Album of the Week - Earthless - From The Ages
They're certainly not a groundbreaking band, nor do they (or I) claim to be. They are solid though, and instrumentally pretty good. On top of that a great live band. I'd probably give this album an 8/10.

I'm gonna pull a hellboy and refrain from reviewing this on the grounds that hellboy has already posted multiple picks and is therefore abusing his authority and being a dick. Someone else NOT named hellboy or Tyson please make an AOTW pick.
Thank you. Carry on.

I called for some to pick an album and waited 3 days before posting. Put your money where your mouth is and make a pick next time...MOG wrote:I'm gonna pull a hellboy and refrain from reviewing this on the grounds that hellboy has already posted multiple picks and is therefore abusing his authority and being a dick. I am mostly just fucking with you. We really do need to get this thing better organized though. It was a great idea, same with CAOTW....would hate to see it go by the wayside, even if you do skip every other review

Kick out the jams!
Pretty good, can't see myself revisiting, if they cut the fat and added a vocalist they could be contenders, but this is obviously more a band just having fun.
Gunna stop giving albums vague ratings out of 10 and use my words from now on.

Finally got to hear this and I dug it. Definitely goes down the "Stoner Rock" path more than anything. (Rhapsody has it as "Hard Psyche" whatever that is) "Equus October" reminded me of parts in In A Gadda Da Vida for some reason. I always like it when a band can throw up a 15 minute jam that feels like it went 5 minutes.
Solid stuff and wasn't what I was expecting from the description. 7/10
