Yeah, fuck it, let's hear them.Naattik wrote:That's Pete Erskine. He is one of the all time greats, but this is really not representative of what he's known for. Very "smooth-jazz "which I'm not much into. It's pleasant, but not very satisfying. Kind of like cotton candy.UndKeineZwEier wrote:Don't know who this drummer is, but he's pretty good.
I'd post some examples of Erskine doing his thing, but you probably wouldn't even bother checking them out amirite?

Re: The Jazz Thread
hahahaha love those.
For real though, great thread! I would love to be opened up to more jazz music as I love certain flavors of it, but it's such a huuuuuuuuuge pond to wade into.
Shocker: I LOVE Miles Davis and Duke Ellington, and that's about the extent of my jazz name-dropping ability.

I think you can call them jazz, but look up The Bad Plus. You all will thank me later.

Re: The Jazz Thread
Reviving this thread to share some of the good stuff I found in the past few weeks.
We'll start off with Mauch Chunk by Mostly Other People Do The Killing. These guys are pretty wild, and I really dig it. Their album is available on CD or for download at CD Baby. It's well worth picking up.

Next up is Press Enter by Romain Collin. I've been spinning this one a lot, it's one of my favorite albums released this year. This one is kinda hard to track down, I had to get my copy off eBay, but it's back in stock on Amazon, and you can get a high res download at Qobuz.
[BBvideo 560,340][/BBvideo]
And finally is an album I just picked up today and haven't actually spent a lot of time with, but has so far proven to be a very interesting listen. It's VOLK by the Ochion Jewell Quartet. This one is actually on Bandcamp, which is nice since Bandcamp is awesome. Be sure to check out Kun Mun Kultani Tulisi if you're looking for a good track to start with.

How can this ^ possibly even be considered ok? It's basically a joke.

Re: The Jazz Thread
I didn't mean ok as in its not ok to do it, sorry about that. I meant ok in the sense of musical. The snippets I heard are extraordinarily terrible. Even, the musicians who played with him thought so. As a joke it's somewhat funny.

Re: The Jazz Thread
Xan Campos, a Spanish jazz pianist that I'm pretty fond of, has his discography on sale right now for 19.25 EUR or $20.95 US. I bought it even though I already have one of his albums.

Re: The Jazz Thread
The bad plus is kind of hit and miss with me. Great musicians and lots of great stuff, but that iron man cover is a miss for me. It's good, but I don't like the klanky avant garde stuff and slowing of tempo. It sounds like iron man is loosing his power.
