Re: Clutch - Earth Rocker
So I got to see a double header the other night. Was pleased with the show from all the bands involved.
The line up was
Crobot
The Sword
Clutch
Night 1 there was a slow line at the doors so I missed a good portion of the opener Crobot which from the 2 songs I did catch I knew I wanted to see the whole set the next night. The Sword came on and things started to pick up... more people rocking out to this great band. I was on the right side about 6 rows back and had OK sound. Not the best but OK. Too much basss so the lead guitar was overpowered. Still a solid performance. Clutch was on it and played the shit out of everyone of their songs. Neil Fallon didn't seem to be affected by his recent neck sugery although I didn't really see him swinging his head around too much. Overall a great show only marred by the oafs in the pit. There were some real asses in there and at least 2 people came out with bloody noses or were doubled over in pain.
Night 2 I got there early and positioned myself near the center of the floor 5 rows back at the venue. This proved to be a good spot and the guitar that was overpowered the previous night was perfect. Crobot put on a really good show from the bass players funky head bobbing to the lead guitarists over the shoulder guitar whip to the flamboyant showy front man, they entertained. The Sword didn't disappoint either. They are like a newer heavier Black Sabbath. Love the older stuff but the newer songs aren't too bad either. Go see them if you have the chance! Great sound. Clutch again put on a great show and had only a couple of overlapping songs from the previous night. Lots of variety.
Great stuff - Go see this concert if you have the chance!
Night 1
The Mob Goes Wild
Subtle Hustle
Earth Rocker
Mr. Freedom
D.C. Sound Attack!
The Face
Book, Saddle, & Go
Cyborg Bette
Crucial Velocity
Gone Cold
Unto the Breach
Cypress Grove
The Regulator
Oh, Isabella
The Wolf Man Kindly Requests...
Encore:
Spacegrass
Electric Worry
One Eye Dollar
Night 2
Sea of Destruction
The Dragonfly
Texan Book of the Dead
50,000 Unstoppable Watts
Earth Rocker
Crucial Velocity
The Soapmakers
Unto the Breach
D.C. Sound Attack!
Oregon
Profits of Doom
The Yeti
Struck Down
The Face
Gone Cold

New Clutch Album coming
Can't wait. This will be their 4th new album since 2006. If only another band I love could put out material at that rate.

Re: New Clutch Album coming
That's some good news, and I'm looking forward to the new material. However, I am bummed to not get another gig out of them until next year the way that sounds.
I have seen waaaaaaay too few Clutch shows for my own good.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
CLUTCH TO RELEASE NEW ALBUM “PSYCHIC WARFARE” OCTOBER 2ND 2015
July 8th 2015 - Clutch, the influential heavy rock band from Maryland, will release its eleventh studio album “Psychic Warfare” October 2nd via their own label Weathermaker Music. The album was produced by longtime producer Machine (Lamb Of God, Every Time I Die) and consists of 12 new tracks. “The title ‘Psychic Warfare’ is taken from the track, ‘X-Ray Visions” states singer Neil Fallon. “It’s a tale about an unnamed protagonist who is forced to seek refuge in a flop house motel. He is hiding from several nefarious psychic forces, the worst of which is his own sleep deprived paranoia.” The album cover was designed by renowned photographer Dan Winters.
Clutch is comprised of vocalist/guitarist Neil Fallon, drummer Jean-Paul Gaster, guitarist Tim Sult, and bassist Dan Maines.
“Psychic Warfare” track listing:
01 The Affidavit
02 X-Ray Visions
03 Firebirds
04 A Quick Death in Texas
05 Sucker For The Witch
06 Your Love is Incarceration
07 Doom Saloon
08 Our Lady of Electric Light
09 Noble Savage Clutch
10 Behold the Colossus
11 Decapitation Blues
12 Son Of Virginia
Clutch have been pushing the boundaries that define heavy rock music since the four original members got together in high school. Clutch is an unmatched musical force that has been best described as “the quintessential American Rock Band”. They released their tenth studio album Earth Rocker via their own label Weathermaker Music on March 16, 2013. The album entered the Billboard Top 200 chart at #15 giving the band their highest chart position to date.
Clutch’s Earth Rocker reached #1 on the Rock Chart and #4 on iTunes' overall Top 100 album chart. Earth Rocker was awarded “Album of The Year” by Metal Hammer and garnered a Top 10 spot on Rolling Stone’s “Top 20 Metal Albums of the Year”. Rolling Stone further enthused: “Four Maryland lifers — road dogs who've been grinding since the early Fugazi administration, cranking out seething admixtures of jam-band chops, careening blues-punk riffs and singer Neil Fallon's nerdy, piss-taking wiseass lyrics — release their hardest rocking set to date. Look for a go-go break (and some clever punning on the phrase "drop the bomb!) on ‘D.C. Sound Attack!’ Inspirational verse: “if you're gonna do it/ do it live on stage/ or don't do it at all.”
Clutch will be touring extensively in 2015 to support the effort. A string of shows, including festival dates have been announced leading up to the release.
08/15 - GwarBQ @ Hadad's Lake - Richmond, VA
09/04 - The Joint @ The Hard Rock Hotel - Las Vegas, NV - special guest for Primus
09/19 - The Shindig @ Carrol Park - Baltimore, MD
09/20 - The Rock Carnival @ Oak Ridge Park - Clark, NJ
10/24 - Aftershock Festival - Sacramento, CA
10/25 - Knotfest @ San Manuel Amphitheater - San Bernardino, CA
10/31 - Voodoo Festival - New Orleans, LA

Re: New Clutch Album coming
What a way to start my birthday weekend. I'll be seeing Foo Fighters on my birthday! Can't wait!
Re: New Clutch Album coming
They whipped out a few of these new tunes at the last Clutch gig I went to. They sound quite good, which did not surprise me at all.
Happy Future BDay, Kat. Just had mine last month.

Re: Clutch - Rocking the Earth since '91
Just got my Psychic Warfare CD in the mail. Glad I waited to hear it. Doesn't disappoint on the first listen.
Every time I listen to Clutch, I start Jonesing to see them live again... But I want a headlining gig at a reasonably small venue again. The gig with Mastodon was amazing but the sound quality and set length were not ideal.

I'd be keen to see them live again, but I found the new album to be below par to be honest.

I liked it on first listen. I haven't gone back to it though. I thought it was better than their last one, and I liked that one too.

I wouldn't say it's below par, but likely just on par with what I'd expect from them now ... still love them, but the mid 2000's (Blast Tyrant, Robot Hive) is pretty much where it's at and where it seems to have stayed for these guys ... likely gonna catch them at the Forum here next yearhellboy wrote:I'd be keen to see them live again, but I found the new album to be below par to be honest.
