I got exactly the same response lol. and I like the clean vocals on the album, very ISIS - Pliable Foe type mixing.

After about 50 listens I have decided to revise my initial review score. While I still have some issues with the album, specifically it only being 7 songs and the lack of cohesion/direction when taken in a larger context, the vocal mix at times... I simply cannot deny how good each and every track on this album is when viewed separately. The level of song writing is simply incredible and as such, the album get's a 9 out of 10. The critic in me wants to stick with that original 7...but fuck it...it is a collection of 7 phenomenally good songs written by a group of phenomenally talented musicians. And the more I listen, the more I find an identity emerging for this album. One more song might have sealed it, something to cap it off and bring that cohesion you want with any album, something that gives the album an identity and a specific feel or vibe. But again, I am not gonna pick apart this one...
It is Intronaut...and these 7 songs are too good for a 7 out of 10.
@Raven - Glad you are going to get to see them, Enjoy.
Intronaut and The Ocean...that is about as good as it gets right there folks

Bummer it's a Wednesday night in SF, but I can't miss that. Looking forward to seeing The Ocean live too. North may be interesting. A little too CM for my tastes, but I'll give them a shot live.
$12 fucking dollars?!? Amazing deal. This is a pretty small club.
Well, gotta say I'm bummed to miss out on The Ocean, but STS is a great consolation band. Wish they were replacing North.
"Dear advance ticket holders to the show on April 13th at Bottom Of The Hill,
Please note that the previously scheduled support band, The Ocean, will not be able to play due to visa problems.
Scale The Summit will be playing in their stead."

My only hope for the new album is that it is more cohesive than The Direction of Last Things. Direction was filled with incredible songs, but I have said a number of times they didn't necessarily fit very well together, and the album suffered for it as a whole. And album needs to have direction and cohesion. The songs need to work together and the album needs a particular sound that is found in every track. Obviously I am not saying every song should sound the same, but a good album always has an unique sound that gives it an identity. As much as Tool pisses me off these days I do give them credit. They have done a fantastic job over the years cultivating a particular sound for each album. Opeth are another example of a band that does this very well. Up until Direction Intronaut also had done a superb job with all their prior releases. Each album has a unique vibe/tone/feel that is present throughout.
An album is not a collection of songs. An album is the sum of all its parts. It only takes one misstep, no matter how good the individual songs may be, to fuck the entire thing up.

I neither agree nor disagree with your statement. The last Intronaut album was my favorite one.

I can't pick a "favorite" with any of them from Prehistoricisms onward. But the previous one had some of my favorite and, in my opinion, most adventurous song writing from them yet. Doubly so for the vocals. Can't wait to hear what they do this time.

New Intronaut album coming out this year. Apparently Cloudkicker has done some riffs on the album.
I also was not aware that the band fired drummer Danny Walker because of domestic abuse allegations. That kind of behavior cannot be tolerated so I am glad to see the other three members got rid of him. I am interested to see who they get to play drums on this new album. Danny is one hell of a drummer so whomever steps in has big shoes to fill.
Intronaut announced pre-production done they are booking studio time new album on track for this year. They still haven’t announced who the new drummer is.
I'm seeing Joe tonight at the Meshuggah show, so I'll probably find out who the drummer is. But... I ain't telling.
What few riffs/sections I've heard (via their instagram) of the new stuff, it's going to be fucking amazing though! Not that I'd ever suspect otherwise.
