Re: How will Tool approach the design of the new album?
Ha! I would love to be proven wrong!
Re: How will Tool approach the design of the new album?
The only "proof" that this will be their last album is over active fan imaginations (I mean overall, not just you BKG)

Re: How will Tool approach the design of the new album?
I know that was not directed at me, but I have felt this way since the release of 10K Days.
Re: How will Tool approach the design of the new album?
Maybe I'm too optimistic but I believe it when they said (May Jay, I think ?) it'd be over when one of them dies.
I mean think about it, if after everything they've gone through (the white hot start of APC, Puscifer, wine, Adam's apparent laziness, and who knows what else caused this huge delay) they haven't broken up, then what could possibly break them up?
They're too good and make too much money to let it go. And I think they perhaps still, you know, like being a band.

Granted, there's no proof, that kinda goes without saying, right? It's not like it's not possible. These guys are my age and I don't feel like slowing down necessarily. However, if they continue this pattern, it will be upwards of 10 years until the next release and... come the fuck on. I can see many more individual musical efforts from each of them, but if I had to assign a probability, it would be 90/10 against any further NEW material from Tool as we know it.Ravenpig wrote:The only "proof" that this will be their last album is over active fan imaginations (I mean overall, not just you BKG)
What makes you think otherwise? Not to call you out RP, but you haven't necessarily supported your position...
EDIT: While I was typing this up, RP went and supported his position. Interesting topic. You haven't changed my mind, but good points.

No YOU see above. I stated my case you asked for because I knew you were gonna ask me.

Agree that it's an interesting topic, you should start a thread, though I could see it devolving pretty fast.

I agree with this statement. It would be no surprise if it was, but I doubt the band are considering this to be their last.Ravenpig wrote:The only "proof" that this will be their last album is over active fan imaginations (I mean overall, not just you BKG)
Re: How will Tool approach the design of the new album?
I had the same thought. Except... fixed it for you.Ravenpig wrote:Agree that it's an interesting topic, you should start a thread, though IT WOULD devolve IMMEDIATELY.

Heh, you're probably right. As it is we are lucky it's Sunday night and the forum is normally slow today.

Re: How will Tool approach the design of the new album?
Ok so how about this:
If Justin woke up one day and decided to quit the band....would that be the end of them? If anyone other than Paul replaced him would it still be Tool? If Paul replaced him would it still be Tool?
I think this is an interesting scenario because Justin and Danny are easily the most liked members of the band.

I can't see the band continuing if any one of the four called it quits.
Which is good news - for all the complaints of "Maynard isn't into it any more" and "Maynard would rather make wine and Puscifer" the fact he's still there and working with tbe band for me is a sign they aren't going anywhere soon.

Re: How will Tool approach the design of the new album?
I agree. May Jay gets the most hate/blame/etc because he's the most visible.
I also think that even though he's not an original, Tool without Justin is not Tool.

All members are replaceable......except for DC.
Re: How will Tool approach the design of the new album?
I completely disagree. It ain't them without one of them.

I was using my sarcasm font.....sorta.
Re: How will Tool approach the design of the new album?
I sorta got it.
I agree with your assertion that DC is the backbone of the band.

All members, including Danny are replaceable. I doubt they would though.badkittygothgirl wrote:All members are replaceable......except for DC.
How will Tool approach the design of the new album?
This is their last album to fulfill their contract. I wouldn't be surprised if it's their last ever. If they didn't have to honor their contract I would bet this album wouldn't even be coming out and 10k would have been their final album
Re: How will Tool approach the design of the new album?
I'm with Hellboy. I don't think they have any intention of this being the last one. They don't seem to openly think in terms like that. Now, whether this ends up the last one? Odds are probably very good but I hope not, and personally am betting it isn't.
Re: How will Tool approach the design of the new album?
oh i totally agree i dont think any of the members actually think its their last album... but i think its going to be. They just dont seem to have the drive to carry Tool for another 10 years. I bet we get this new CD and a long Hiatus and then word of a live Tool DVD, they have lots of stuff recorded and i think that will be their way of continuing Tool. Just my opinion thojoeypants wrote:I'm with Hellboy. I don't think they have any intention of this being the last one. They don't seem to openly think in terms like that.
