New song is completely disappointing and boring. Mastodon has done better than this. The jugband-washboard-knee slapping song my friends and I wrote this weekend is better than this. We too also play metal and prog. Oh and Classical. And I think I may have recorded a hip hop song or two.

Anyway, Opeth has and always will be 'meh'. I have seen them live 4x before, and about 45 minutes into their set I decide to sit down and take a train to sleepytown.

I'm in the "That's pretty killer" camp on this one. I don't understand how the vocals "annoyed the shit out of" you Piggy, but there goes that subjectivity thing again...

Akerfeldt's "clean" voice is very dreamy IMO. I am stoked that he seems to be eschewing the cookie monster vox (I know this belongs in the Unpopular Opinions thread around here).

The music is not by any means groundbreaking, but why does it have to be? It's a solid song, with great vocals and an excellent, inventive solo. Production kicks major arse UKE. (it's Steven Wilson, so, Natch!)
