I knew of tool prior to lateralus, but didn't think highly of them. All I knew was that people were wearing their shirts, and thought they were just one of those "new" bands like linkin park and korn. I preferred real music, like, Black Sabbath. I was with some friends the day Lateralus came out and remember hearing the grudge in their car. I thought it sounded like metal pink floyd and was merely suspicious. I thought the packaging was really cool, but way over the top. Lol. I actually didn't start listening to them from a personal place until 10.000 days. I was really into APC and the song 3rd eye, but didn't really get into Tool. 10.000 days came out and I picked up all their albums. I used to listen the lateralus 1st thing in the morning for months and started going to shows. I started taking psychedelics around that time too and was piddling through college. It was a fun time. I was already into all the alchemical and magical stuff that is associated with them and loved heavy and psychedelic music. Then Tool released a new album and it was great to experience all the music up to that point all at once, but I missed all the great shows from the 90s and lateralus tour. That part sucks, but I might not have liked it. I saw Isis open at my first Tool show, and was bored to death. But I've seen them since and consider it one of the greatest live music experiences ever. But anyway, the theory is true for me.Bill Hilly wrote:I have been a big fan since Undertow, but it didn't click until the Aenima tour. I saw several shows between 96-98, and they are still some of the most memorable concerts I have ever been to. As much as I love Aenima and how it changed my entire perspective on music, I still think Lateralus is my favorite Tool album - but not by much. I think that your theory is better fit for fans who didn't hear Tool until 10,000 Days.Busty McCracken wrote:So i have this theory that if you were heavily into Tool pre Lateralus, then odds are Aenima is the album that truly blew you away by Tool that made you the fan you are today so its hard to beat that first time.. where as if youre a Tool fan post Lateralus then the same can be said of that album for you.
Obviously its not fool proof but still keen to hear peoples thoughts on here??

If it makes you feel better, your theory is correct with me.Busty McCracken wrote:0 from 2 so far.... Great theory dickhead!
