So my one-listen review is that while I thought it was an enjoyable album, it's probably notch or two below Clearing the Path to Ascend. I did enjoy the variety of having a bunch of shorter songs, over the monolithic four tracks of the last one, though it never quite reached the heights that those tracks do.
Certainly worth further listens though.

New album is now out! Highlights for me are the last three tracks of the album.

Ah, so it's the last one where the last 4 tracks were the best?

Our Raw Heart is a really good album. Not as good as Clearing or Atma on first listen, but more varied than anything they have released previously. It makes sense in the context of what Mike has been thru with his recent health issues. I think it might be their heaviest album to date. I am gonna hold off on a score for the time being. There is a lot to digest here. Bottom line buy the album it's good. Yob is far and away the best Doom metal band on the planet.

@ Mog: “Buy”?! What is this word you made up?
I am taking this on a long hike today. Really looking forward to hearing it for the first time it, especially after these comments. They were excellent live, and I’m not a Cookie Monster vox fan at all, as many of you know.
They are playing at the same venue in Oakland soon. I will hopefully be there again.

I agree - I think the variety is the best part of the album. Just that Clearing and Atma have some killer riffs that it doesn't really come close enough to emulating. When you write a 10+ plus doom song, you better be sure your cornerstone riff is strong as fuck.

I survived. Ended up hiking with a friend, so didn’t get to listen as carefully as I wanted to. First pass was mixed for me. Some really excellent parts. The title track is strong.

Fucking amazing album, not my favorite of theirs though. At least, speaking of them as a whole piece.
Ablaze is one of the finest things they've ever written though. An all-timer in the doom category.

Yep gotta agree. Would put this behind Clearing and Atma for sure BUT it is still really really good. Better than any of their older stuff, which is still good, but Atma and Clearing the Path to Ascend are Yob at their best imo.

Well, it shows up on the last site.. anyway, thanks!
Clearing the Path will be a metal staple in doom, always. ATMA will resonate, too.
I’ve not had the proper chance to listen to Our Raw Heart yet; I shall soon in silence.
