the Hoffman reference was unexpected for me. but its a good idea for album art substance...like the square on the saliva boxset.

I think they have an abundance of funds. They make a small fortune on Toolarmy alone (for essentially no overhead, and providing virtually no useful service), not to mention merch. That's just two examples, there are plenty more.

I imagine that, coupled with Adam's abilities and history will result in a killer album design. I'll likely buy the vinyl if it's ever produced. Of course 10 years later we are still waiting for the 10KD vinyl, so I'm not holding my breath.

I wish authentic vinyl was available from TOOLmerch .... seems only right. plus all cd's. I personally would rather buy straight from the artist.

It makes sense, and I think Tool will do this eventually. Being an Australian though, it's likely to be much cheaper to by their stuff locally.

I recently got a turntable and all my dad's old vinyls. Now I want some tool vinyl and I realized how difficult it is to find real ones...

10K Days and Salival exist only in bootleg, Aenema is pretty rare (bootleg available too though).

The rest can be easily found for reasonable prices online. Hell, walking into your local store might do it too.

I guess the 10000days stereoscopic vinyl was too nerdy/dorky when held up for viewing. ;)

I certainly hope they design for vinyl first this time around, rather than just have it as an afterthought.

what do you mean? The design of the packaging for vinyl? or do you mean the track layout working for vinyl, as opposed to Lateralus where DRT is split up.

Package design for the most part. Track layout is an interesting one as well though, especially if there are a number of long songs.

I hope they play the new album in its entirety , take a break from the classic tour songs used and throw us a 'curveball' of all new experiences and sonic/cosmic plains.....im thinking a double gatefold release....especially with the so-called 'epic' song..wishfull thinking yes! ..... I can dream.

if history means anything then the absolute SOONEST we could expect to see the new album vinyl is roughly 2026...

10000 days was released roughly 10 years ago, still no vinyl... but maybe its coming. So from release date to vinyl release is 10 years. Lets say the New album comes out early next year, then we tack on the time to vinyl, and were right around 2026. Hope my turntable still works by then.....

Assuming they're going with the same style as before 10K Days, the 10K Days vinyl will be released a couple of months before the new album is.

I'd love to see someone like James Jean tackle art for the next album. I know Adam is a big fan. (Google search him as he does a lot of different stuff, this is just one of the more "minimal" examples I dig).

So I've been sitting on this for awhile, but I just got the all clear to announce that I'm doing the artwork for the new album. Here's an early sketch to whet your appetites:
