Final Big Day Out Announcement, Aenima Wanted

The final Big Day Out announcement was made today, and as expected reveals a large number of generally uninteresting bands, most of which seem to be of the Hip Hop and Electronica varieties.  “Highlights” include The Vines, Digital Primte, P-Money Keith Flint (from The Prodigy) and many more listed here.  Personally, I can’t see the new additions make any more Tool fans wanting to rush out and buy tickets.  Still, I’ll be there in Sydney, hopefully sharing a few beers with any other Fourtheye members in attendance (more details on a Fourtheye meetup in Sydney to come….)

Brad emailed me the other day, and told me he’s interested in buying a copy of the Aenima Vinyl.  He lives in the US, so if you’ve got a spare you’d like to get rid of, let me know

Theme Updates, Fourtheye Playlist

There’s been a lot of talk on the new theme, luckily most of it has been pretty positive.  For those people who want clarification, or are just too lazy to read the comments:

  • The logo is not the winning logo from the poll.  The winning logo will be used on Fourtheye in a different way.
  • Gravatars are not working at the moment, but they will be back
  • Categories and Archives are down due to a Javascript bug.  Will be back in a less javascript dependant way soon, and hopefully a fixed version of the AJAX one will be available later
  • The new theme doesn’t like IE6.  I’m not too cut up over this, but might look into it in the future.  Kinda hard for me to test though since I don’t have IE6.
  • For those who must use IE6, or just don’t like the new them, you should now see a Theme Switch area in the sidebar where you can pick whatever theme floats your boat.  Note the two wordpress ones are untested so use them at your own risk!
  • I will be playing around with the colours in the next few days since I’m not 100% happy with it.
  • Comment Karma coming soon….
  • Look forward to the “mystery” feature of Fourtheye being released early 2007.  Those of you who know what I’m talking about should do some more work.  Those who want to be part of it (and it involves work) email me.

Lastly, I was thinking of coming up with a best of 2006 playlist as compiled by Fourtheye members.  I’ll be looking for around 20 songs that sum up listening tastes of Fourtheye.  The catch is that all the songs must have been released this year, and that only 1 song from any artist will be included.  I’m going to build a little web application to help with this process, so stay tuned.  Feel free to make nominations below.

New Theme

Well, at long last the new theme is up. Feel free to reset your cache if you’re not seeing anything.

I welcome any feedback on the theme. I’m especially interested in performance on various speed internet links, and also in different browsers. I’ve only tested on Firefox 2.0 and IE7 so let me know if you see any unusual items.

Things to note:

  • All items are now in the right sidebar.
  • Items are now collapsible, and should remember your selections via a cookie.
  • The new logo be Jonas is now in place. I chose this logo over the winning entry because I felt it was original, and has a style that I felt matched the artistic direction (if you could call it that) of the site. If and when Fourtheye Merch does come to fruition, he will be the recipient of a freebie.

Enjoy, and feel free to send me feedback – good or bad, I promise I’ll take it like a man!

Edit: I think there is a speed issue related to a Javascript bug. Will be looking into it shortly.

Edit2: Looks like the problem is to do with the AJAX Categories and Archives sections.  Have turned them off for now, and will put them back in once I’ve sorted it.

Poll Results

This weeks poll asked you lot what song you would most like Tool to include in their current show. To no one’s surprise, Third Eye won this time around, but possibly due to a civil war between Pushit lovers. Personally i voted for The Grudge, because I just love that song. Here’s the results:

In other Fourtheye related news, the new layout is almost ready, so keep your eyes out for it appearing sometime in the next day or so.

This Beat Could Win Me A Grammy…

Tool have collected a couple of nominations for this years Grammy Awards.  This year they have been nominated for:

  • Best Hard Rock Performance for Vicarious.  Up against Nine Inch Nails, Buckcherry, Wolfmother and System of a Down
  • Best Record Packaging for 10,000 Days.

They seem to have done alright in the past with Grammy Awards, so hopefully they’ll pick something up again this time around.  Winners will be announced on the 11th of February.  Since Tool will be in Japan then, I guess they won’t be there in person to thank Satan again.  Maybe they’ll send Blair instead.

Of course, it’s hard to get too excited about an award show which has Justin Timberlake and Red Hot Chilli Peppers nominated for Album of the Year…

In other news, Ben emailed me saying he has 2 Sydney Gold tickets that he’s willing to swap for 2 Melbourne Gold tickets.  Let me know if you’re interested in trading

Tool + Motörhead

Motörhead guitarist Phil Campbell joined Tool on stage in Leipzig, Germany on Monday night. According to Blabbermouth, he playing Sober with the guys, and also allegedly also played with them in Cardiff, though this is the first I’ve heard of it. Here’s hoping Billy Thorpe doesn’t join Tool on stage Down Under…

Edit: According to the tour journal at Distortion Online, Phil played during Swamp Song in Cardiff, and on Sober in Leipzig.

Lateralus Platinum Shipped! Ticket Swaps

Just received and email from Merch at Toolarmy, and it looks like the Platinum Lateralus has shipped.  Who knows, it may even arrive in time for Xmas.

M.J.K. tells me he has a Gold Coast Big Day Out ticket, and he’s willing to swap it for a ticket to a show in Japan.  He’s not interested in selling it for money at this point though.  Let me know if you’re interested.
