DC on the Rock Show, Tool Tickets

Danny Carey and Brann Dailor from Mastodon took over the BBC Rock Show the other night, and it show is currently available for streaming on the website.  Apparently this will only be available for the next week.  Not really an interview as such, more the guys discussing drumming and playing a few tracks.  Here’s what they picked:

  • Mahavishnu Orchestra – ‘Meeting Of The Spirits’ (Sony)
  • Isis – ‘ Holy Tears’ (Ipecac)
  • Genesis – ‘In The Cage’ (Atlantic)
  • Led Zeppelin – ‘The Wanton Song’ (Warner)
  • Mastodon – ‘Hearts Alive’ (Warners)

I got an email from Mark the other day, who is interested in swapping his Sydney Tool show tickets (Silver seated) for Gold Coast Big Day Out Tickets.  If you’re interested, then let me know and I’ll put you in touch.

Speaking of tickets, if any of you have tickets for the Big Day Outs, or either of the Tool shows, and are looking to offload them, then feel free to let me know, as I’m always happy to advertise them on Fourtheye.  The only condition is that the tickets are sold at face value.

Finally, for those of you thinking of buying Big Day Out tickets from Ebay, then be aware that Big Day Out organisers are invalidating tickets purchased from the site (presuming ticket numbers can be tracked down).  According to this article, Ebay will be suing the Big Day Out organisers, but in the meantime – be careful!

November Newsletter, Adam + Guitarist

Blair posted the November Newsletter today.  Seems to be the usual ramblings, this time about his trip to San Antonio.  This is mainly in response to the cancelled show, and Blair mentions that the show will be rescheduled for the 2007 US tour.

There have been plenty of photo’s posted for Toolarmy members, today there’s one of Adam, Camella and Brian May.  Nice beard Adam, looks like those hairy guys from Mastodon are rubbing off on you.

Tool in Visions

XtotheY of Toolnavy posted last night that Tool are featured in the latest edition of the German magazine Visions.  No transcript of the interview was made available, but it was a pretty stock standard interview except for the following points:

  • The Vicarious video will be entirely computer generated, which is why there have been delays.
  • Adam is yet to see the video for himself
  • Maynard justified the current Tool ticket prices by saying they offer much more value than Korn.

Personally, I don’t think ticket prices are that outrageous.

Stage Production Article

Kiyou on Toolnavy posted a link to another article covering the technical aspects of the Tool live show.  This time the article covers there recent US Show which featured the big white stage and introduced the lasers.  Interesting reading.

“The show looks very different based on where you are sitting in an arena,” says Grace. “Toward the end of the show, the screens in back of the band and the entire floor become one giant screen, making the nosebleed seats the best in the house. The design objective is to create a show that everyone can be a part of — no bad seat in the house.

Here’s the link.

Tour News, Coming Interviews, Mastodon Videos, Salival Request

Casi emailed me today, telling me that he received and email for Blair a few days ago, confirming that Tool will be touring the Gulf Coast region on their next US tour.  Hopefully those of you who missed out last time will be able to catch them next year.

Toolshed mentioned that Danny and Brann Dailor of Mastodon will appear on this Tuesday’s episode of The Radio Rockshow.

Speaking of Mastodon, they’ve released Episode 1 of a series of videos recorded while on tour with Tool in Europe.  No real mention of Tool aside from the upcoming interview, so probably not worth checking out unless you’re a die hard Mastodon fan.

Finally I’ve had a request from a Fourtheye reader who is looking to purchase a copy of Salival, presumably DVD though it wasn’t specified.  If you have a copy you’d like to get rid of, then email me and I’ll put you in touch.

Current Set-List Poll Results

This weeks poll asked what song from Tool‘s current set list (which was actually just the list of the show the night before) you’d most like seen dropped from the set. As it turns out they have dropped one of the songs (Sober to Swamp Song, feel free to comment below on what you think about the change). Anyway, the results are in, and it appears that 25% of people feel that it’s the perfect set, which the song most would like dropped is Schism. Personally, I voted for 46&2 since that’s never really been a favorite of mine, though I’m pretty happy with the set as it stands.

  1. None it’s the Perfect Set 140 Votes
  2. Schism 114 Votes
  3. 46&2 62 Votes
  4. The Pot 43 Votes
  5. Stinkfist 40 Votes
  6. Lost Keys/Rosetta Stoned 37 Votes
  7. Wings For Marie/10,000 Days 29 Votes
  8. Vicarious & Ænema 28 Votes
  9. Jambi 24 Votes
  10. Lateralus 14 Votes

This weeks poll asks what you what song would you like to see added to the set. For the first time I’ve allowed the poll to accept user submitted answers, though I’ve put what I feel are the obvious choices up there already. Please only add songs recorded by Tool, and not covers. Stupid answers will be removed at my discretion. Enjoy!

Tool Merchandise

For those of you who’ve ordered the Platinum Lateralus Plaque, and were wondering when you will receive it may find this post from TA interesting:

Toolsogno: Does This Include Those that have already ordered the Lateralus plaque?
Merch: Shit Yeah!

Don’t miss the sleigh, Cam’s Picture

Blair tells us today, that if we expect to get Tool merchandise before Xmas, we had better get out orders in before the 13th of December if you’re in the US, or by the 7th of December if you’re else where. This excludes TA membership packages which I understand are shipped by Yak from an 18th century manufacturing plant in the Himalayas. Also, Blair didn’t define if he was talking about Xmas ’06 or ’07. I guess we’ll all know in about a months time.

TA Yak's in transit
TA Yaks in transit

Also, Toolarmy members can see a picture taken by Camella from the recent Tool European tour. Hopefully we’ll see some more, since that photo was nice, but no better than many I’ve seen here. We want pictures take from places where normal people can’t go, not ones from the cheap seats.

TA Xmas Sale, Chet Zar, Maynard Interview

Blair posted on Toolarmy last night that for the next two weeks, orders received via Toolarmy (no word if it also includes sales via Toolband) will be randomly selected to get an autographed photo of the band. Hopefully this applies to people waiting for their orders to be sent (ie- people who have already ordered the Platinum Lateralus Plaque). What you order is irrelevant, so feel free to order the smallest item from the site to be eligible. It was also mentioned that there may be some special items coming up in the weeks before Xmas, mainly older collectibles and other discontinued merchandise.

Also mentioned today is that Chet Zar will be signing copies of the book Spectrum 13 in Burbank of Sunday the 3rd of December. One of his paintings is featured within the book. The signing will be at Dark Delicacies found at 4213 W. Burbank Blvd., Burbank. More details can be found at their website.

I stumbled across this Maynard interview today, thanks to a tip from the guys at the Tool Hotline. Quite an interesting article, focusing on Maynard’s political views, and also talks about his relationship with the fans.

AVC: Given how many records Tool sells, do you feel your message just gets diluted anyway?

MJK: Oh, it’s going to get diluted. I tested the water with the political album A Perfect Circle did. [Until 2005, Keenen was pulling double-duty in A Perfect Circle; the political album was 2004's covers EP eMOTIVe. —ed.] I didn’t even write those songs; I was just letting people hear what was said before me, the things that inspired me as a child, and things that were said during various turbulent times. And I was fucking crucified. If you go back and listen to that album and just forget that it’s covers, it’s a good album, but I was crucified because of its content, because there’s an army of little fucking brats out there just going into every little chat room, talking shit and undermining anybody who has anything to say. It’s like this insane, 1984/Big Brother infrastructure.

Hmmm, I have no problem with the political points eMotive was trying to make, I just though it was a pretty uninspired and boring album….

One final note, those of you who are Xbox 360 player should hookup with more for some Gears of War action. Here’s my gamertag:
