Another DC Interview

Danny seems to be the one giving out all the interviews at the moment, and here’s the latest one from Drowned In Sound:

With Tool being lauded for their incendiary, imagistic shows, why has there never been a live DVD or even CD?
Well, we really planned on making it during last year but we just ran out of time. At the end of the Lateralus tour we made a big effort, and even video-recorded the last ten shows and audio-recorded the last fifteen, so we have all this material. There is a chance, if we have time, that we are going to start going through it and editing for a live DVD, so I’m hoping that we will have one out.

An excellent interview, and well worth reading.

Justin’s Birthday – New Poll

Happy Birthday to Justin (it was yesterday actually, the 19th of November). According to Wikipedia, that would make him 36. Congrats from all of us at Fourtheye. In order to honour Justin, take a look at this weeks poll.

Last week we asked who (apart from Tool) you would like to see on the Big Day Out. It comes a no surprise to me that Muse are the band of choice, and it also doesn’t surprise me that many of you are somewhat unexcited about the bands announced so for. It also turns out that 11 of you want to see a band I hate with every bone in my body. Good for you! For the record, here’s the list of votes:

  1. Muse 92 votes
  2. “Oh the Humanity” 46 votes
  3. Someone not listed 17 votes (feel free to comment below and tell us who you are interested in!)
  4. Trivium 15 votes
  5. The Crystal Method 14 votes
  6. Peaches 13 votes
  7. The Violent Femmes 12 votes
  8. The Killers 12 votes
  9. John Butler Trio 11 votes
  10. The Butterfly Effect 7 votes

Note: Those of you who are having problems voting, will probably find that the solution can be rectified by clearing your cookie, in particular ones for Fourtheye with the value “demvote”. This is caused by the recent update and the polls being renumbered starting from 1 again. After this weeks poll the problem should sort itself out. Enjoy!

DC Interview

Found an interesting interview with Danny today, seems to have been done recently in the lead up to the forth coming shows in the UK:

Soundtrack-like indeed, and with a flair for creating the visuals to accompany the music in house, has movie making ever surfaced on the agenda?

“We’ve had pretty intense discussions about it. I think if any band would be capable of doing a full length feature that’s worth sitting through, we could pull it off. Especially with the visual arts training that Adam (Jones – guitarist) has, he worked on movies for many years (see ‘T-2′, ‘Jurassic Park’, ‘Edward Scissorhands’) and that’s definitely helped out doing our videos. We’re pursuing it; I think there are movie companies who would have the faith in us to do it if we came up with the right script and approach. I’m hoping if not on the next album maybe the one after.”

More Meshuggah

Bastardometer from Toolarmy posted some more Meshuggah news for us all, including some Drum Workshop dates with their drummer Tomas Haake.

An audio recording of MESHUGGAH bassist Dick Lövgren and drummer Tomas Haake‘s clinic on Wednesday (Nov. 15) in Örebro, Sweden has been posted online: Part#1, Part#2. A MESHUGGAH fan by the name of Anders who attended the clinic put together the following report: “It was like this: First they played a medley of different MESHUGGAH parts like 12-15 minutes. Then there was a lot of talk about all sorts of stuff. Their approach to music in general, some examples of ‘odd cycles,’ a lot of questions for the audience. And then they played a second medley about the same length. Did not hear any new material since they are in writing mode right now. Tomas talked a little bit about the new material and to say something about that is that they will use a lot of odd cycles (of course), but they will be much longer before they repeat, if they ever repeat. Something like that. And also that they for this album are gonna rehearse a lot as a band before entering the studio, which they haven’t been able to do due to time/financial concerns. Tomas has always recorded the drums by himself with out any rough guitar (‘cuz the others haven’t learned the songs). His mind is so focused on the structure of the song that he haven’t been able to play free or feeling as confident with the material as he would like.”

Upcoming Dick Lövgren / Tomas Haake Swedish clinics:

Nov. 22 – Göteborg Sticky Fingers
Nov. 24 – Borlänge
Nov. 25 – Gävle 15.00, Musikhuset/Sjömanskyrkan, St Esplanadgatan 1
Nov. 27 – Falköping Lilla Teatern, Dotorpsgatan 13
Nov. 28 – Motala
Nov. 30 – Stockholm 20.00, Street, Hornstulls Strand 9

MESHUGGAH has issued the following update on the group’s current activities:

“Right now we are writing material for the new album. After the ‘Nothing’ re-release, we more or less finished working on our studio, so know we’re putting together a kind of demo to see where we are at material-wise and basically give the studio, the songs, and us a test run, heh, heh. We are swimming in dark waters that constitute putting an album together and whatever we find beneath the surface is definitely gonna be… interesting. Suffice to say that we’re in a weird but inspirational period right now. It’s all gonna be about the writing during November. The demo recording is hopefully happening in December in-between the pinball tournaments here in the studio. Then we’ll see where we’re at, I guess. In hell, probably. We’ve got no working title or concrete cover ideas yet, but it’s getting there. It’s the slow process of coming to terms with the material we’ve got and hopefully understand what to make of it. The plan is to have the album out late spring or — if things get fucked up — early fall. Naturally, the touring will be planned around the album release, so we’ll see when we get closer to completing the album.”

Meshuggah Update

G emailed me today to let me know that there’s a new Meshuggah interview available on the net.  I haven’t listened to it, but I’m told the guys are currently writing material for their follow-up to Catch Thirty Three, with demos to be recorded in December.  The release date is expected to be in the fall, presumably of the Northern Hemisphere.

Check the interview out here.

Mastodon, Signed Lateralus Vinyl, Music

Mastodon talk briefly about the tour with Tool on the AOL Music News Blog.  They also talk about appearing on the Conan O’Brien show.  Here’s the link.

I received an email a few days ago from a TA member who is interested in obtaining a copy of the Signed Lateralus Vinyl.  They are obviously a little hesitant in purchasing over-priced, and potentially illegitimate items from Ebay.  Should anyone be wanting to part with their copy, send me and email me and I’ll put you in touch.

Those of you who like bad music, and equally bad recordings, should head over to the About Me page on the right, and you’ll find something I recorded some time ago….

Maynard interview with IGN

IGN has posted an interesting interview with Maynard. Maynard chats about Puscifer, Wine making and how he sucks at video games. No Tool news for you one-eyed fans out there. Check it out here.

…currently I’m working on several tracks. All with different sets of musicians and engineers. Lustmord will be involved. Tim Alexander has expressed interest. Possibly Brad Wilk, Tim C., and Jonny Polonsky may want to be involved on a track. Joe Barresi, Matt Mitchell. Danny Lohner. The list keeps expanding. No label. No hassles. Just me and a few artists at a time having fun. One off songs to be used where ever I choose.

I’m not a great fan of the current Puscifer stuff out there, but it will be interested to see where it goes.
