Big Day Out ticket update, Aeon Blue

I noticed that Big Day Out tickets will go on sale at 12:01am Friday on the festival’s website (local time for each show I assume) and all other outlets from the start of business on Friday morning. So you’ll be waiting up if you absolutely must have them when they go on sale.

If you’re bored and in Perth on Saturday, Ronan tells me there’s a Tool night being held at the Leederville Hotel at 8pm. Might be worth looking into…

Update!

Hi Everyone, the wedding went really well, and thanks to all of you for wishing us well.  I’ve got a few quiet days before I head off to the US on holidays.  A couple of things came across my desk while I wasn’t paying attention:

Ronnie from New Zealand has emailed me a link to the second part of the NZ TV3 interview with Danny and Adam.  Haven’t had a chance to watch it yet but Ronnie tells me it contains stuff about the album notes of 10,000 Days and Sacred Geometry.

Big Day Out tickets go on sale on Friday the 13th of October.  I’ll be out of the country so if anyone wants to offer to buy me a ticket for the Sydney show, let me know via email and we’ll sort something out.

It looks like Mastodon will be touring with Tool for pretty much all of the European tour, and not just a couple of dates like previously suggestion.  The ‘Don will also be playing on the Conan O’Brien Show on the 1st of November as well.  Thanks to mskintx for the tip.

That’s about it for now.  Looks like the voting is going well, so keep them coming.  Votes will remain open until I get back from honeymoon in a couple of weeks.  There have also been a couple of late entries which I may post shortly….

Big Day Out announced, Mr and Mrs Hellboy

Tool have been confirmed for the Big Day Out, as announced in the official press release. Here’s their rather exaggerated and manipulative comment about Tool.

BIG DAY OUT 2007 will host the heaviest modern metal experience of all, TOOL. After 15 years of breaking, shaking and earthquaking new musical ground, TOOL topped the charts in 2006 with their latest unique melding of art, prog and metal, 10,000 Days. With an unmercifully heavy set that reaches back over a decade to the still staggering Sober, BIG DAY OUT 2007 will feel the earth move under its feet as TOOL rumble and roar into life.

Other acts confirmed include Muse, Evermore and Jet. Tickets go on sale Friday 13th October at the Big Day Out website and other outlets for all the dates announced:

FRIDAY JANUARY 19th AUCKLAND MT SMART STADIUM
Maurice Rd Penrose. Gates open 11am
Tickets $110+bf

SUNDAY JANUARY 21st GOLD COAST PARKLANDS

THURSDAY JANUARY 25th SYDNEY SHOWGROUND

SUNDAY JANUARY 28th PRINCES PARK SOUTH

And I’d also like to congratulate Hellboy, who is getting married today. Hope he has a wonderful wedding and honeymoon, and it’s great those people at the Big Day Out gave an early present!

Fourth Eye Logo Competition

As I’ve mentioned a couple of times over the last few weeks, I’ve been running a competition to see who can create the new Fourth Eye Logo. Entries have now closed and it’s time to vote. All of the submissions have been posted anonymously below, and they’re numbered 1 through 8. You should find a poll in the side-bar of this page (to your right), so find the corresponding number and take your pick. You can also click on each picture for a larger version (where available). Some of them lose a bit of quality in the way WordPress compresses them.
Since this is my site and ultimately I’ll be picking the winner (though I will be swayed by votes) I’m going to publicly nominate number 8 as my favorite, but feel free to disagree with me. Vote like you’re trying to get John Howard out of office!

    Puscifer Website Launch

Incase you missed it on The Tool HotlineMaynard updated his Myspace, saying the new Puscifer website will be launched on October 13th.

Finally. We’re gonna do it. Just a few more little tweaks and the site will be launched.
Very relieved. The site will of course evolve as time goes on, but for now I’m very pleased.
FRIDAY OCTOBER 13TH, 2006 We launch.

    Big Day Out Announcement

According to the recent Triple J newsletter, Jay and the Doctor will be announcing the Big Day Out Festival lineup on Wednesday morning.  While it’s been more or less established that Tool, Muse and Trivium will be playing, until that lineup is officially confirmed, anything could happen.  It also mentions that there’s been a few hoax lineups released recently, so those of you who have read any, especially the one with Tool, Foo Fighters and Guns n Roses headlining, don’t get too excited.

    Times Leader speaks with Justin

Times Leader in Pennsylvania speak with Justin ahead of the coming Tool show at Wachovia Arena. Justin talks about writing 10,000 Days in a somewhat uninspired article.

In other news, there’s more exclusive pictures from Camella up Toolarmy, mainly of the band members but one interesting one of a Tool fan with the Aenima Eye’s tattoeed on his shoulders.

    San Antonio update

Blair posted on Toolband/Army today that the postponed San Antonio show will be rescheduled to Spring 2007. He also said there will be more dates for the Spring tour to be announced hopefully in a week or so. Presumably they’ll be making up for other postponed shows during that tour.

I also noticed the lyrics for The Pot are up on Toolband, not that you couldn’t find them anyway…

    Mastodon confirmation, PopWire

An ad in Kerrang confirms that Mastodon will be supporting Tool in Europe. There’s only five dates on it, so they may be just doing the UK leg of the tour. We’ll have to wait and see. Thanks to The Tool Hotline for letting us know.

Pop matters has posted an interview with Adam. It seems pretty standard, there’s not much new here. But it’s been a while since an interview and it’s not the worst I’ve read. This is one of the more interesting quotes from it:

But Tool is intensely serious about its music. And while Jones is at a loss to explain his band’s commercial triumphs, he’s pretty sure he understands listeners’ passion.

“When we’re writing, we don’t worry about radio, we don’t worry about fans. We just worry about walking out and being able to say, `Wow, it’s great. We did a good job, and I love it.’ Being able to listen to it in my car and say I’m a fan of my own music,” says Jones.

Puscifer in 2 weeks? Al Jones

Hotsauceman on Toolarmy pointed out the Maynard‘s Myspace site has changed.  He hints that the Puscifer website should be up and running in 2 weeks, and also suggests that there will be podcasts and mp3 samples.

In other news, Blair on Toolband/Army reports that Adam’s brother Al will be playing a couple of gigs.  One is with his band Mission Creep on the 29th of September, while the other as part of “The Stoner Sessions” on the 9th of October.  Blair also mentions that he’s definitely not Adam’s guitar tech, that job lies with Chris Leahey.
