Adam Jones in Toronto?

Sianspheric sent me an email today telling me that a friend of his noticed the following in a press release regarding the Canadian Music Week festival on Toronto in March:

  • Adam Jones (Tool) / Saturday March 12 / Trinity St Paul’s / 7:00pm (A World premiere multimedia presentation) – Tickets on sale Friday, January 14 at 10am.

Your guess is as good as mine as to what it’s about.  Maybe a new side project, or the unveiling of a much speculated one?  Perhaps something to do with the Y Incision project, which coincidentally nxrm pointed out has had an update, including this vague statement:

Lastly, we are hoping to soon announce a music component to these packages that I am very excited about, but we have a few details to work out first. Trust me when I say, it’s huge and cool as fucking hell.

A Perfect Circle track recorded? Newsletter + Tool goodies on Ebay

According to a recent tweet by Antiquiet (and also on Billy Howerdel’s Facebook so I hear):

Maynard and I just got done tracking some vocal for a new APC song

Hopefully this means we’ll see a new A Perfect Circle track sometime in the not too distant future.

As I posted a few days ago the December Newsletter was just released.  Now I’ve had a chance to read it, here’s a few things I’ve picked up:

  • Tool are still writing for the next album and we probably shouldn’t expect a release until late 2011
  • Adam has been in the UK doing stuff, and depending on how you read it, could have recorded with Robert Fripp, had something repaired (a guitar amp perhaps) or just had some beers.
  • Things are maybe happening as far as the various Tool websites are concerned.
  • Maynard is enjoying some more winemaking
  • Tool nearly supported Rush in Brazil (or may do so in the future).
  • Aaron Harris might post some notes from the road for us.

Feel free to add anything I missed below!

Finally hold your light from Toolarmy has had to reluctantly sell some of his Tool related goodies on Ebay.  Here are the links:

Happy Bidding!

Tool in Reverb, Danny chats to Rynne

I read a post on the Big Day Out site directing us to an interview with Reverb, a local Australian magazine with Danny & Adam about the upcoming tour. It’s quite interesting and worth a quick read. Check it out here.

Also in the news is that Danny will be appearing on the Children of Saturn radio show, conveniently hosted by Rynne. According to Blair‘s Toolband post:

DANNY will be the guest on the “CHILDREN OF SATURN” internet radio show (hosted by Rynne Stump) on MONDAY NIGHT, DECEMBER 20 (6-8 PM, PST). For two hours he will be playing his favorite music and talking about the artists involved. Perhaps he will even talk a bit about his own bands, including the one called “TOOL.”

Tune in but don’t tune out!

Pre-Sale Wrap Up, Adam Jones Interview

Well the pre-sales happened earlier today. Brisbane went about as smoothly as you’d hope. Tickets may even still be available if you haven’t got them already. Melbourne on the other handle was a cock up of epic proportions. In between wrong passwords, My Ticketmaster pre-sales and the late availablilty of Gold Tickets, there’s a wide range of fans, myself included who feel a little pissed that they missed out. Good news it that we at least have Monday to try again, and getting lawn tickets at the back wasn’t all that hard. Anyone who wants to help me out with with a gold ticket should let me know.

Some are hoping there might be some kind of second pre-sale to make up for the mistakes made on the first. I think this is pretty unlikely to happen, so don’t go getting your hopes up.

In more interesting news, there’s a short interview with Adam on Gun Shy Assassin where he talks about Faith No More amongst other things…

I ask Adam if he’d please tour with Faith No More. Then, I get the answer I wanted to hear. “I’m up for anything,” Jones tells Gun Shy. “I’m the guy in the band who wants to tour, who will drop what he’s doing and hit the books. But there’s just…you know, I’m married to three other guys and we’re all very different, so…I am [down to tour with Faith No More], and if something like that happened, it would be amazing but…hey, it is what it is.”

A Faith No More/Tool tour would be the greatest tour in history.

Tool October 2010 Newsletter

Just to keep us on our toes Blair has released the October Newsletter at the beginning of the month rather than the end.  It’s really just a summary of upcoming events that people should consider attending including an a gallery with some of Adam’s art on display, a Crowleymas celebration where Danny & Blair will be signing books and such, a Volto! and Cpt. Kirk gigs and an event at COSM.

Most importantly for Aussie fans it touched on the Big Day Out tour:

For those of you hoping for some solo tour dates to be announced, all I can say at this point is to keep checking the website

The way I read that suggests that solo tour dates would be happening, and stay tuned for the inevitable announcement on a Tool fansite.  I wouldn’t get to bothered about Blair’s comment on the second Big Day Out.  I’m sure he’s not suggesting that Tool won’t be playing.

Update: I mean to add that the second Sydney Big Day Out goes on sale at midnight tonight.  Ballots to score remaining tickets for the Melbourne and Gold Coast shows start later this week as well.  If you’re planning on going to Auckland, Adelaide or Perth, don’t go expecting them to remain available for too much longer…

Undertow Master, Adam Oil Paintings, BDO Updates

Got an email today from Rick, who is selling what he claims to be a Master recording of the Undertow album on DAT tape. From the Ebay sale page:

There is not much to explain I mean this is the real deal . It was obtained from a personal friend who knew people who worked at larrinkin Management.

This particular MASTER RECORDING is for the Cassette Version. NEVER in the history of ebay have anything has ever been available like this. This DAT cassette is even before any testpressing. Straight from the studio.

Buy it now price is US$1500. Considering the Aussie dollar is almost worth the same as the US dollar then someone from Down Under with more money than sense should have a go at it…

According to a recent post on Toolband, Adam has an Oil Painting on display at a gallery in New York. According to the post:

A new original OIL PAINTING by ADAM JONES will be among the artwork on display at the ALTERNATIVE PRESS 25th ANNIVERSARY EXHIBITION hosted by the SLOAN FINE ART GALLERY in NEW YORK CITY. The special THREE-DAY SHOW will be held between THURSDAY, OCTOBER 21st and SATURDAY, OCTOBER 23rd, from NOON – 6PM.
For collectors and others who are interested in buying fine art, ADAM’s painting is FOR SALE. Please CONTACT the GALLERY for purchasing information.

SLOAN FINE ART
128 RIVINGTON STREET
(On the Lower East Side of NYC)

Finally, Big Day Out‘s in Sydney, Gold Coast, Adelaide, Melbourne, Auckland and Perth are now mostly on sale. Sydney and the Gold Coast have sold out, with a new Sydney show to go on sale on the 11th of October. Those still wanting Gold Coast tickets can enter a ballot to do so. Visit the Big Day Out page for details. I believe the Melbourne event is sold out as well, though I think you may still be able to get them from Ticketmaster. There will probably be a ballot for this show as well. I’d expect Auckland, Adelaide and Perth to sell out in the coming weeks…

Still no news on sideshows!

August Updates

Here’s a bunch of news updates and things I’ve picked up of the last month but haven’t quite been motivated enough to create a new post for.

In case you missed it, Justin Chancellor will be appearing on a couple of tracks on the new Intronaut album Valley of Smoke.  The album will be released on the 12th of October so Rodney tells me.  No word on what Justin plays on but on track can be streamed on their Myspace site.

The X-Files/30 Days of Night issue #2 should be, or is very close to released now, and a review if can be found here.

Aaron Harris from Isis got married last weekend.  Several Tool members were in attendance so I heard, and according to Blair one of the wedding presents was a Danny Carey Signature Drum!  Congratulations to Aaron and Alexandra!

Maynard has a short interview in the latest issue of Relix Magazine, where he is featured in the Parting Shots section.  I haven’t read it but apparently the interview is largely about wine and doesn’t feature any real music news.  Thanks to Rick for that.
