dpddy on Toolarmy came across this cool gig poster by Adam Jones. It’s for the upcoming Faith No More show in Moscow later this year. Word is that Adam has also designed a poster for a coming Isis gig.

Offline by Matthew Santoro
Posted on Toolband/Army today is a quick article talking about a new Sci-Fi movie from Matthew Santoro called Offline. The movie, as well as looking pretty cool apparently takes some influence from Adam Jones:
My goal was to make a dark and gritty sci-fi/horror based cybernetic dream experience type thing with a couple of good friends, a camera, some duct tape, and a computer. Pure Gorilla as they call it. Adam Jones was a huge influence during this creative process. I look at him like a master Jedi and director/creator of all things awesome, his work pretty much speaks for itself. I remember as a kid watching the TOOL videos that Adam directed and being completely enthralled almost mesmerized like a moth to a flame. I’ve never seen anything like this before but I know one thing… I like it. His work opened my mind to another plane that I didn’t even know existed. Later in life we became friends and when I told him I wanted to direct my own film he gave me an important piece of advise that I’ve kept with me everyday of production. He basically said to look at every shot like a piece of art. If your going to put your name on something make sure its something YOU are happy with (emphasis on YOU) because if you truly consider it to be a piece of art then in a way it is a reflection of yourself.
The movies looks great and a trailer can be seen here.
Possibly the most important part for Tool fans is the following snippet:
Look for more of Matt’s stunning art in a future Tool project (i.e. “the big thing”)
To me this suggests to me that the “big thing” will be some form of DVD.
Isis interview on Triple J
I’ve just finished listening to a brief interview with Aaron Turner from Isis, recorded by Andrew Haug for Triple J’s The Racket program (presumably what Three Hours Of Hour/Full Metal Racket is now called). Was a short interview, doesn’t really reveal a massive amount we don’t know, but he does discuss how Adam came to be involved in the record. It appears it mainly happened because Adam and Aaron Harris frequently play Halo 3 together.
I was hoping that perhaps there might be a hint of an Australian tour, but there wasn’t. The interview can be streamed here, and starts at about the 51 minute mark.
Adam Jones designs Melvins poster
Adam has designed one of the posters for a series of gigs by the Melvins this year celebrating their 25th anniversary. My understanding is that these posters may be available for sale at these shows. Other posters have been designed by the likes of Jeff Ament from Pearl Jam.
The 25th Anniversary shows are:
- May 15, 2009 – New York, NY – Webster Hall
- May 16, 2009 – Boston, MA – Paradise
- May 18, 2009 – Chicago, IL – Double Door
- May 20, 2009 – Austin, TX – Emo’s
- May 22, 2009 – Seattle, WA – Showbox
- May 23, 2009 – Seattle, WA – Showbox
- May 24, 2009 – Portland, OR – Roseland
The will feature Trevor Dunn on bass and will have Houdini played in its entirety.
Adam Jones Names Top 10 Guitarists
Guitar World has a new article on it’s website featuring a top 10 guitarist list by Adam Jones. He talks about the guitarists he finds most influential, with some obvious references (King Buzzo, Robert Fripp) to the not so obvious (Dr. Know and Ronald Jones). Check it out here!
News Catch-Up!
I’ve been away for a few days, and have missed out on several little bits and pieces of Tool related news. No tour news though, which is what people really want!
Firstly, Maynard appears in the new movie Crank 2, which also features Danny Lohner, Mike Patton doing the soundtrack, and some dude from Linkin Park. Thanks to Ziggy and AZB for the tips.
In another movie related item, apparently The Taking of Pelham 123 will have an A Perfect Circle remix appearing on the soundtrack. Cheers Hurtfrog!
Maynard tweeted a couple of times, alluding to being in certain places at certain times. Possibly Tool, everything is as vague as you’d expect:
Oakland/Fox Theater? Seattle/Moore Theater? June? Anything is possible.
And
Wine events coming to the Midwest, NorthEast and SouthEast. But No Puscifer shows in those areas yet. Sorry. Soon. Hold please.
And
Possible dates in the NorthWest.
Aaron Harris from Isis confirms the tracks that Adam appears on Wavering Radiant:
Aaron continued to explain the exact contribution Adam Jones did on ‘Waving radiant, “He just did some guitar and its not gonna be that recognizable, its not your typical guitar sounds. I think he used an ebo and effects. But it still has that signature Adam Jones sound to it.”
Now on what tracks does Adam Jones play what Aaron describes as “a whole fading frog sound”? The opening song ‘Hall of the Dead’ and the instrumental title track ‘Waving Radiant’.
That’s all for now – some news in regards to the Fourtheye shirts will be coming soon!
The Pot video details
Mahamundra from Toolarmy pointed out a quote from the recent Guitar World interview with Adam Jones, and a recent tweet from Meats Meier as having something in common….
Adam Jones: We’re working on ‘The Pot’ but Ive been really lazy lately[Laughs]. The setup for it is a-lot more epic, so its actually good that we’ve been able to have more time. Its going to be all stop motion and in 3D. We’re doing it so that we can hopefully have it shown in the theater. A-lot more theaters are going digital and those projectors can do 3D. We have a *consultant who worked with us on the 3D packaging for 10,000 Days, and he was telling me that in 10 to 20 years you wont need goggles for 3D, you’ll go to the movie theater and everything will look 3D. Its almost holographic. Its really exciting. Sorry, gimme a chance to nerd out and I will [Laughs]
And from Meats:
I’m preparing for my huge meeting with TOOL tomorrow afternoon. Big things brewing…gulp
If anyone happens to have a copy of that interview with Adam Jones – let me know. I’m yet to see the magazine surface here in Australia. Thanks all who responded – I now have a copy
Tool February Newsletter 2009
Blair has released the February 2009 Newsletter somewhat secretly this time, as there wasn’t a post in the new about it. It gives us an update of all the members, which I shall summarise below:
- Adam is working on several big undisclosed projects (the video presumably)
- Maynard is Puscifering, as we already know
- Danny & Justin have had a very productive jam session a couple of weeks ago
Thanks to budsyralli from Toolarmy for spotting it.
New Album and Comic details from Guitar World
According to killyourstereo.com there is some further information to be garnished from the recent Guitar World interview:
It’s been coming along…great! [laughs] No, we’ve been on hiatus. I’m writing and [bassist] Justin [Canchellor]‘s been writing, but [frontman] Maynard [James Keenan] has been working on his wine. We’ve all just been taking some time away from each other, which has been nice. I’ve also been working on producing some comics.
Not sure why Ganjalf didn’t mention this part the other day…
The Pot video coming soon…
Ganjalf contacted me today and told me that according to the recent Guitar World interview:
Jones: We’re working on “The Pot,” but i’ve been really lazy lately. The setup for it is a lot more epic, so it’s actually good that we’ve been able to have more time. It’s going to be all stop-motion and in 3D. We’re doing that so we can hopefully have it show in the theater.
Not sure how he actually got this info, since the magazine hasn’t been released yet. Will confirm this once I am able to read a copy of the interview myself.
