Puscifer announce Australian tour in January 2017

Puscifer will be bringing their Money $hot tour Down Under in January, with dates all over Australia and New Zealand, including a headline slot on the Mofo Festival in Tasmania.  Here’s the press release:

Returning to Australia in January 2017, the genre-defying Puscifer will unleash their legendary Money $hot – Round Under Tour on audiences around the country across four huge all-ages shows. The Money $hot tour will take in Melbourne’s Plenary MCEC on Sunday 22nd January, Adelaide’s Thebarton Theatre on Monday 23rd January, Sydney’s Darling Harbour Theatre, ICC on Wednesday 25th January and will wrap up with the ultimate Australia Day party at the Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre on Thursday 26th January.

Puscifer will descend on Australia straight off the back of a mammoth world tour that marries the concept of concert and theatre, and has been chalking up epic reviews from around the globe:

“Welcome to one of the most intoxicating, semi-befuddling and downright incredible live shows, well, ever… Puscifer’s whole philosophy is about making their live show a unique experience… Nothing is more impressive than the performance, though… one of the best live bands on the planet.” – Kerrang!

“Mindbending, brain-frying, totally unique and definitely worth the wait. Gig of the year. Done.” – Metal Hammer

“Maynard James Keenan’s vocals were in beautiful harmony with Carina Round’s… (this together with) the stunning visuals that accompanied Puscifer’s show throughout the night, made for an incredible gig that won’t be easily forgotten.” – Loudwire

The brainchild of one of music’s most enigmatic personalities, Maynard James Keenan, Puscifer is an accomplished collective of musicians. Puscifer’s touring line-up is Keenan, guitar player Mat Mitchell, singer Carina Round, drummer Jeff Friedl, keyboard player/vocalist Mahsa Zargaran and the newest addition, bass player Paul Barker (Ministry, Lead Into Gold).

‘Money Shot’, Puscifer’s third studio album released in October 2015, is the most confident release to date and easily the most openly “Maynard James Keenan” of the bunch.

“I don’t really know how else to talk about it other than it’s more,” says Keenan. “It really is kind of a culmination of all the things I’ve been exposed to and inspired by over the years. That combination of the digital programming combined with that acoustic element of the harmonies…. Trying to find that actual pulse, that breath of life within the digital landscape — and then just going ahead and bringing it in for real.”

“Money Shot takes a more refined approach to all the things that make Puscifer Puscifer”, wrote Rolling Stone. “The raunchy sense of humor is still there, but the overall mood of melodically pulsing songs like “Grand Canyon,” “Galileo” and “The Remedy” is darker, more sombre and more reflective… Money Shot feels like the most focused work the band has created to date, and maybe also the most personal.”

Do yourself a favour, and don’t miss this one-off live experience  when it rolls into town in January.

New Caduceus Reds available to Aussie Wine Drinkers

Our buddies at Sip Wines hav announced that they have some of Maynard’s latest Caduceus Red wines now in stock, and to celebrate are having a sale:

The New 2013 Caduceus Reds have landed in Australia! To celebrate, we’ve taken $20 off the Merkin & Caduceus Pack. This pack includes the delicious 2013 Caduceus Nagual de la NAGA & the brand new 2015 Merkin Chupacabra GSM Red from all Arizona grapes.

Sadly there is no goon sack option, however you do get $20 off the bottled variety.  They’re expensive wines, so probably for enthusiasts or special occasions only.  Though I haven’t tried any of the newer wines, the ones I have tried in the past have been pretty good, so worth an order if you’ve got the money lying around.

Caduceus Wine selections updated at Sip Wine

For Aussie lovers of Maynard’s Caduceus Wines, local distributor Sip Wine have recently received a new batch. They’re currently available on their website, and at time of writing the selection now includes:

Caduceus Cellars Dos Ladrones 2013: 50% Chardonnay, 50% Malvasia Blanca from Buhl Memorial Vineyard, Cochise County, Southern Arizona. Hand Picked, whole cluster oressed with a part cold ferment in stainless stell, part in puncheon. Maynard’s Tasting Notes : Seductive aromatic jasmine nose. Bright clean flavors with a hint of almond & lime zest. This ageable high elevation desert white is reflective of what AZ truly has to offer.”

Caduceus Cellars Lei Li Rose 2013: 100% Nebbiolo Rose from Southern Arizona. Delicious, fragrant & dry style of Rose that lingers in the mouth screaming for some procuitto and cheese.

Caduceus Cellars Sancha 2012: 97% Tempranillo, 3% Malbec from the Buhl Memorial Vineyard, Cochise County, Southern Arizona. Hand Picked and sorted then aged for 18 months in new and neutral French Oak. Maynard’s Tasting notes ” This full bodied 2012 Sancha balances a rustic savory warmth – with elegant dark, moody red fruits like dried black cherries and hints of leather, cocoa & tobacco….enjoy the smooth, lingering finish of this Rioja style wine.”

Merkin Chupacabra Blanca 2012: Maynard James Keenan’s creation of 26% Sauvignon Blanc, 26% Gewurztraminer, 20% Riesling, 14% Chardonnay, 11% Chenin Blanc, 3% Malvasia Bianca that is Barrel feremented and matured in stainless steel. “This wine just jumps out of the glass with its fresh fruit, bright spice and huge bouquet. The racey acidity and full texture are a delight to sip but it is the aromas that will have you entranced. You will have you nose in the glass all night enjoying this wine as it changes as the bottle is emptied. Matt@Sip Wine ”

Merkin Chupacabra Rosa 2013: A Rose creation of 62% Primitivo & 32% Montepulciano from Luna County in New Mexico.Luna County in New Mexico, USA. Whole bunch pressed, then Barrel fermented and rested in Stainless steel for 9 months TASTING NOTES: Watermelon and cranberry jolly ranchers…. Cherries, fruit punch, and pink roses.

Merkin Chupacabra Red 2013: 44% Cabernet Sauvignon, 31% Petite Sirah, 22% Syrah, 3% Malvasia Bianca from Luna County in New Mexico. The wine is more subtle than you would expect with an excellent balance of fruit, acidity, alcohol and tannin. The Chupacabra 2013 is blend from three full bodied grapes, Syrah (Same as Shiraz but grown in USA), Cab Sauv & Petite Sirah plus they throw in a touch the aromatic white Malvasia Bianca. You can taste each of the four different grapes but they are woven together seemlessly to create a delicious and complex red. The end result is greater than the sum of it’s parts. Easily sipped without food or bring it together with BBQ meats, slow cooked meals or char grilled vegetables” Matt@Sip Wine.

You can see the full range of wines and packages on the Sip Wine website here.

We all know it’s expensive, but let’s keep the whining in our glasses, and not in the comments below.

Could Tool be playing in Australia at Soundwave 2016?

Around about this time every year, Australian festival promoters release details on the lineups for their summer music festivals. One of these is the popular rock/metal festival Soundwave 2016. Tool, being regular Australian tourists routinely get mentioned as a possible headline act for these festivals. Since the release of 10,000 Days, Tool have headlined the Big Day Out Festival twice, as well as a headlining tour following a Japanese Ozzfest date.

With Soundwave announcements around the corner, I thought I’d investigate the possibility of Tool, or related acts appearing on next years lineup.

Many of you who have read the August 2015 Newsletter will be aware that Tool, Breck and Junior are working on a new stage production designed specifically for festivals. While it seems likely Tool will play plenty of these in the long term, in isolation it seems a little strange that they’d do this with just one festival show on the cards – Monster Mash in Arizona. The Australian Festival circuit would seem to be a good opportunity for the band to further refine this stage before touring it on a large scale off the back of a new album. Junior elaborates a little on the festival production plans in a post he made on Toolnavy.

The obvious obstacle here is that Tool don’t appear to have a new album ready, and it seems increasingly unlikely that they will be recording this year. Will Australian fans support Tool for a fourth time around without a new album? Aussie fans are some of the most loyal in the world, but I’d expect enthusiasm levels would be lower than normal without some new material. A new lighting rig may excite a few of us die hards, but perhaps not the more casual fans out there.

I have had it suggested to me by a reliable source recently that the next Tool shows might be a bit closer to my neck of the woods. Will this pan out? With a Soundwave announcement expected in the next month or so, we will know for sure soon enough.

What we do already know is that Failure will be playing at Soundwave 2016. I’d also consider Puscifer could be a candidate as well. We know Puscifer have a new album out in October, with a tour US to follow, and that they have played Soundwave in 2013 as a double header of sorts with A Perfect Circle. Perhaps this time around we might see both Tool and Puscifer playing at Soundwave in 2016.

Aussie readers: Don’t forget Yob this August!

Just in case you guys have forgotten, Tool touring buddies Yob are hitting our Australian shores this August for a range of shows in Perth, Adelaide, Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane. The great news for me is that an Adelaide show was added to the tour, which wasn’t included in the original announcement. I’ll be there, and am really looking forward to it.

Dates for the tour are:

Perth – August 19 – Rosemount Hotel
Adelaide – August 20 – Enigma Bar
Melbourne – August 21 – Max Watt’s
Sydney – August 22 – Manning Bar
Brisbane – August 23 – Crowbar

Yob Australia Tour

Yob released their latest album Clearing the Path To Ascend last year, and it’s a great album that made it to my top 10 (and also yours). If you haven’t done so already, I suggest checking it out. Below is one of the tracks from the album – Marrow

Melvins Melbourne Tickets on sale Tomorrow!

Tickets to the Melvins gig at the Ding Dong Lounge go on sale at Moshtix Friday morning 9:00am EST.  It is a small venue and I’d expect tickets to probably sell out, so if you’re planning on going, don’t delay!

According to the Ding Dong Lounge they will be performing Houdini in it’s entirety and Trevor Dunn from Fantomas will be on Bass.  That makes me ever more jealous of those that can go….

No word on the Sydney show at this stage except that it will be on the 22nd of January.

The Melvins Australia/NZ Tour Dates

The Melvins will be playing a few shows in Australia and New Zealand in January 2009 as described below:

Word on the street is that Melvins will be playing some shows in Australia in January ’09 while Fantomas is down under doing the Big Day Out 2009 festival dates. Be sure to check Ipecac’s calendar for up to date info on Fantomas shows. These Melvins dates will most likely be the lineup of Buzz, Dale, & Trevor Dunn on bass. The tentative dates so far:

  • January, 15 2009 – Aukland, New Zealand – TBA
  • January, 22 2009 – Sydney, Australia – TBA
  • January, 27 2009 – Melbourne, Australia – Ding Dong Lounge

Too bad the Melbourne show is on a weeknight otherwise I would have considered going over.  From what I understand this isn’t a proper tour and I look forward to a The Melvins/Big Business tour later in 2009…

The Melvins to play in Australia

According to a recent post on the Ding Dong Lounge (a music venue in Melbourne):

American sludge metal band the MELVINS (USA) will be gracing the stage here in January, also featuring members of FANTôMAS (USA)…Stay tuned for dates and pre-sales!!

If they don’t play Adelaide I’ll be pissed…

Tool Revolver Magazine Down Under

A couple of people have mentioned to me that the Tool edition of Revolver magazine is now available (or available to order) in Australia.  I’m yet to see one, but keep your eyes peeled!

I also noticed this morning that some Australian The Mars Volta dates have been announced. Just as well I’m not a huge fan since they’ve skipped Adelaide…
