Lollapalooza Confirmed?

Blair made a cryptic post on Toolarmy today:

Anyone besides Buzz, Junior and I see that blistering line drive of a foul ball the other night at Dodger Stadium that damn near postponed a certain tour? Easier just to buy one of the damn things. Speaking of baseball (which I love), in planning my… vacation, while in Chi-Town the second week in August (when the weather’s nice), I was hoping to see the Cubs at Wrigley Field (having never been there). A little research would have been nice. Turns out that during that time the Cubs will be on the road – in Colorado, facing our friend Glendon Rusch and the Rockies. So, no Wrigley Field. Oh well, anyone know where I can get a good dog in Chicago. One with a little attitude? I’ve got an extra twenty that I’m saving for the occasion.

Some people read this to be a metaphor in regards to some upcoming Tool dates, including the much rumoured Lollapalooza.  The official lineup is announced tomorrow apparently so we’ll know soon enough.

Blair clarifies Tool Summer Tour

Blair made a several posts to Toolband over night, a couple of Birthday (Camella, Kat and Pete below) call outs, as well as dropping a few hints regarding the tour:

HAPPY BIRTHDAY PETE!

Cheers to TOOL’s manager, Pete, who… knows all the tour dates (except for one).

He then goes on in a Toolarmy Exclusive post that:

As of now, there are only about a dozen shows planned, scattered throughout the United States of America. When the shows are confirmed, and the BAND’S booking agent and/or management gives me the go-ahead – and ONLY when they give me the go-ahead (for contractual obligations), I will post them.

He also goes on to discuss the possibility of a Toolarmy Pre-Sale for these shows, which he believes will be happening for most of the gigs.

April Fools Day?

Believe it or not, everything I’ve posted today has been 100% true.  No jokes!  Blair however has posted a cryptic picture to Toolband, which may or may not be a joke.  I will let you guys be the judge:

JESUS LOVES YOU. THEN AGAIN (like the tee-shirt says), HE LOVES EVERYBODY.

Perhaps the new album is called Here My Prayer and the first single will be the 1 hour and 50 minute epic Spam

Tool March Newsletter

Blair has released the March Tool Newsletter on Toolband/Army this morning, which may or may not contain April Fools Jokes within.  It mainly talks about Justin and a TeePee that he erected at his house, will allusions to him writing songs for the next album.

For those who only care about specific news though, the last paragraph delivers:

Anyway, that’s what Justin may or may not be up to these days. As far as other band-related news, the last meeting with 3D artist Meats Meier went great (as he acknowledged in a recent blog). Adam and Kevin Willis are up to some mischief. Maynard is back from the wine signings in Texas, and is getting ready for the Puscifer shows at Club Nokia. Danny has added yet another monster modular synth to his collection, and is currently recording… something at the loft. Besides that, we should have some Tool tour dates posted soon. Now, show me the way to the next supernatural power zone…

Enjoy!

Tool to play All Good Festival?

This is nothing more than speculation based on Blair‘s cryptic emails, but is worth posting anyway:

Sounds kinda crazy I know, but collectivejudas29 put together a good analysis of Blair’s spirit session from the February newsletter that led him to conclude Tool may be playing a show in July. It seems right to me, and more specifically it seems like they might be playing a festival. If it’s in July, that means it’s not Bonnaroo and not Lollapalooza. But there is another festival I’ve been hearing more and more about, and maybe it’s where Tool is heading — the All Good Festival.

Two parts of Blair’s message led me to this conclusion. The first is his footnote that seems to have no purpose. “* Y and J in place of I were also tried, as was V and W in place of U.” It has no place at all in figuring out what SILITNIUQ means. (SILITNIUQ is just QUINTILIS backwards, referring to July.) So what does that footnote mean? I think the letters are also backwards in the footnote, so not V and W (VW), but W and V (WV = West Virginia). Also he says at the end “if someone is able to fathom a meaning from the experiment, … please shout it out from the top of a mountain”. The All Good Festival is being held on Marvin’s Mountaintop in West Virginia.

I probably wouldn’t book your flights/tickets just yet though.  Thanks to ogt from Toolarmy.

Tool February Newsletter 2009

Blair has released the February 2009 Newsletter somewhat secretly this time, as there wasn’t a post in the new about it.  It gives us an update of all the members, which I shall summarise below:

  • Adam is working on several big undisclosed projects (the video presumably)
  • Maynard is Puscifering, as we already know
  • Danny & Justin have had a very productive jam session a couple of weeks ago

Thanks to budsyralli from Toolarmy for spotting it.

Tool January Newsletter

Blair released the Tool January Newletter today, despite the fact it’s February.  It talks about, and includes a picture of a bug found in a readers Vicarious DVD, and includes a vision, which may or may not mean something.  Not sure what to make of it, but the reference to various Toolarmy Ranks and so on could have some meaning.  Change coming to the website soon perhaps?

There’s also a picture of Danny at the recent NBA All-Stars game.  Looks like he could only get a seat in the nosebleed section!

Volto! gig, Pigmy pictures, ‘Busy” band members

Blair posted several updates to Toolband/Army today.  The first lot where a bunch of pictures from the recent Pigmy Love Circus gig.  Some nice work there with several shots take by Danny‘s girlfriend RynneToolarmy members get a close up of Danny in action.

Also mentioned is that there is a Volto! gig coming up on Friday the 6th of March at the Knitting Factory in Hollywood.  Blair mentions it will be the last Volto! gig for a while:

as certain band members might be busy with other projects in the months ahead.

Read into that what you will…

December Tool Newsletter

Blair released the December Newsletter on Toolband today, and surprisingly it’s somewhat on topic.  For those who can’t be bothered reading it:

  • Nothing happening on the Tool front at the moment, but song writing will probably commence once the holiday season is over (with presumably Maynard joining them after the Puscifer shows).  Also, no decision has been made as to whether or not they might tour in 2009.  Personally, I couldn’t see a tour happening until after an album release.
  • The Tool websites (including Danny‘s) will most likely get an overhaul in 09.  Personally, I’ve speculated that a Toolarmy overhaul could be the “big thing” mentioned.
  • At least one member of Tool will be on the new Isis record, which is being recorded by Joe Baressi.

Also up on Toolband is a pic of Adam and Danny hanging with Mike Patton at a basketball game.  More photo’s can be found on Toolarmy for members.
