Danny announced Tool sideshows in Melbourne and Brisbane

According to reports from Cubanpete, Danny has been on Triple J this morning and mentioned that there will Tool sideshows in Brisbane and Melbourne.  According to the release on the Triple J site:

Mon 24 Jan – Entertainment Centre BRISBANE
Wed 2 Feb – Sidney Myer Music Bowl, MELBOURNE

Tickets for both shows go on sale Monday November 8. Get more info at bigdayout.com
Big Day Out promoters have said that these will be the only headline shows for the band on this tour.

Great news for Queenslanders!

Also mentioned was that fact that the Williams sisters love Tool!

The tennis star was in Melbourne playing the Australian Open. Carey reports that both Williams sisters are big rock fans and that Tool got invited to watch Serena win that tournament.

"I’m hoping she’s going to do well again this time in the Australian Open and have us down. Last time we had so much fun and we got to watch her whip Sharapova’s ass. It was awesome so we’re kinda hoping that’s going to happen again. Got to do the celebratory dinner with her after with her Mom and her hitting coach…. It was a blast. I hope she comes out to the gig this time. She couldn’t get away last time because she had too much press to do. I know the feeling!"

Update: Also mentioned was that New Zealand’s Jakob will be supporting, which is no huge surprise given that Aaron Harris will be coming with Tool and has done plenty of work with them.

Update 2: Here are some more ticketing details.  No word on price yet:

Maynard Talks, Danny Drums

Maynard has a quick chat with Spin magazine, in which he talks about the latest happenings at his vineyard.  Highlights include:

Do those retirees ever ask what Merkin, the name of your vineyards, actually means? (it’s a pubic hair wig)
They probably do and I probably look at them with a blank stare and ask if they want some more wine.

I heard on the grapevine that they may have had significant problems with javalenas this year (watch Blood Into Wine if you don’t know what this is).  I hope for Maynard and all the crew at Caduceus’ sake that they can make the best of the harvest they’ve been able to collect.

As we all know Danny took part in a John Bonham tribute night last weekend, and a few of our Fourtheye comrades took the time to send me a couple of links to his performance:

Danny joins John Bonham Tribute

Danny has been added to a lineup of drummers that will pay tribute to John Bonham at the Key Club in Hollywood this month.  On the 25th of September Danny will join the following drummers:

  • Steven Adler (GUNS N’ ROSES, ADLER’S APPETITE)
  • Vinny Appice (BLACK SABBATH, HEAVEN & HELL)
  • Kenny Aronoff (JOHN COUGAR, JOHN FOGERTY)
  • Frankie Banali (QUIET RIOT)
  • Bobby Blotzer (RATT)
  • Jason Bonham (LED ZEPPELIN, FOREIGNER)
  • Fred Coury (CINDERELLA)
  • Jimmy D’Anda (BULLETBOYS)
  • James Kottak (SCORPIONS)
  • Abe Laboriel (PAUL MCCARTNEY)
  • Khurt Maier (SALTY DOG)
  • Stephen Perkins (JANE’S ADDICTION)
  • Chris Slade (THE FIRM, AC/DC)
  • Chad Smith (RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS, CHICKENFOOT)
  • Brian Tichy (WHITESNAKE, FOREIGNER, BILLY IDOL)
  • Joe Travers (ZAPPA PLAYS ZAPPA, DURAN DURAN)
  • Simon Wright (AC/DC, DIO)
  • Zoe Bonham
  • Danny Carey (TOOL)
  • Deborah Bonham

Each drummer plays their own Zeppelin song apparently.  No word on what Zeppelin song Danny will perform, but perhaps it’ll be No Quarter.

You can grab tickets for this event at Keyclub.com.

Puscifer Remix, Toolshed Hits 15!

I forgot to mention in the August update that you can listen to a new remix of The Humbling River on the Puscifer site.  It’s the second track after Rocket Man.  Sounds good, but personally I’m ready for some new stuff rather than just remixes…

Toolshed also had an update recently.  Not only have then just turned 15 (congratulations!) but Kabir spoke with Danny who confirmed Tool are back songwriting. I’ve heard pretty much the same thing as well, so it looks like things are moving in the right direction for now!

‘Wickedest Books’ Launch Party

Blair’s latest book “The Wickedest Books in the World: Confessions of an Aleister Crowley Bibliophile’” is having a launch party at the Cha Cha Lounge in LA on the 23rd of March.  Danny, who wrote the foreword for the book will be at the party, and possibly other Tool members if I’m reading it right.

You will be able to purchase the book on the night, and get it autographed, presumably by a purple marker of some description.  Check Toolband/Toolarmy for more details!

Tool February Newsletter

The February newsletter is now up on Toolband/Toolarmy and it’s a somewhat revealing one:

  • Tool are in the process or writing new material., though Blair personally hasn’t heard any.
  • Joe Baressi has, which suggests to me he’s probably going to engineer the album again.
  • Adam has a new pedal he’s been playing around with, and this may or may not feature.
  • Danny has some new percussion instruments, and they definitely don’t have a water bong in the room.
  • The cover from the mini tour was from the band The God Machine, and it wasn’t played because a member of the band had recently passed away (a friend of Justins)
  • Apparently the male doctors voice on Lost Keys is the bands manager, not Justin as has been suggested to me in the past.  The man in question, Pete Riedling if I remember correctly is an Australian.
  • The Big Thing is the website updates.  It will happen sometime in the future.  My sources tell me around September.

It’s an interesting read, a mini-FAQ in some ways and I suggest you all take a look.

Thanks to Nathan for the tip!

The Process

Blair just made a quick update on Toolband & Toolarmy:

Danny will be attending tonight’s battle between the KU Jayhawks and Texas Longhorns in Austin, along with the band’s favorite Texas Ranger. And before boarding the Silver Dillo(?), "yes", that was Paola Kansas transplant Carey eating Texas barbecue with Texas-style rubs and seasonings at Iron Works BBQ this afternoon. Barbecue blasphemy some from the Sunflower State might say. At any rate, Tool’s drummer will return to L.A. tomorrow, so that possibly the ‘process’ can begin in earnest on Wednesday…

Hopefully the ’process’ is what we hope it is…
