Mastodon confirmation, PopWire

An ad in Kerrang confirms that Mastodon will be supporting Tool in Europe. There’s only five dates on it, so they may be just doing the UK leg of the tour. We’ll have to wait and see. Thanks to The Tool Hotline for letting us know.

Pop matters has posted an interview with Adam. It seems pretty standard, there’s not much new here. But it’s been a while since an interview and it’s not the worst I’ve read. This is one of the more interesting quotes from it:

But Tool is intensely serious about its music. And while Jones is at a loss to explain his band’s commercial triumphs, he’s pretty sure he understands listeners’ passion.

“When we’re writing, we don’t worry about radio, we don’t worry about fans. We just worry about walking out and being able to say, `Wow, it’s great. We did a good job, and I love it.’ Being able to listen to it in my car and say I’m a fan of my own music,” says Jones.

Justin Interview, Melvins Tour

Bastardometer posted on Toolarmy a link to an Audio Interview with Justin.  I couldn’t get the link to work, but it’s probably because I don’t have the right plug in.  Try your luck at this link.

Ipecac have released some more extensive Melvins US Tour dates as well.  Looks like they’re playing with Big Business again, so expect some dual drumming action.  Check out the newly refurbished Ipecac website for more details.  I was also going to post a cool live Melvins video with two drummers from Google Video, but it looks like it’s been taken down.  To sum it up in one word though – tight!

Justin on 10,000 Days

The Daily Texan has posted a short interview today with Justin, where he talks about 10,000 Days, some of the motives behind it and also comments on their reluctance to use iTunes. Thanks to mskintx for the link.

Daily Texan: Tool is one of the last bands to not give in to the iTunes conversion. Why is that?

Justin Chancellor: The fear is that the album will get torn apart. The main problem is that we work hard on this piece of art that’s supposed to be presented as a whole. To have people pick and choose parts of it is not what we want to get across.

Adam explains the Cancellation

Blabbermouth posted an excerpt from an interview Adam did on 99.5 KISS today, where he explains the reason for cancelling the San Antonio show.  As we expected it’s due to Maynard’s illnes:

“Oh, I’m really sorry,” Jones said. “It’s horrible, you know. Our singer got sick… Maynard is sick and it’s very unfortunate ’cause, you know, when I get sick or Danny [Carey] or Justin [Chancellor] get sick, we can still go on with the show, but Maynard‘s got fever, he’s coughing up stuff, he’s hoarse and he doesn’t want everyone to think he sucks by going out and trying anyway. But you know, he needs to just get over it, rest, you know, and hopefully we can continue. So you just need to hold on to your tickets and we’ll try to swing back around on this tour or on the next tour… It’ll be good for that. We’re really sorry about this, but it happens. You know, you’re traveling and overnighting to different places and climate changes and different pollens and different infected people that are probably getting him sick and, you know.”

Apparently the whole interview can be heard here.

Danny Carey Interviw

Tom King from Lawrence.com has today posted a short interview with Danny, mainly covering growing up in Kansas and his drumkit.  Check it out here.

What’s your drum set-up now?

Carey: It’s pretty much the same thing I’ve been using for the last few years. I have a basic acoustic kit with a couple of bass drums and four toms. I have a lot of electronic stuff surrounding it that I use to do different textures and accents with. I can load any samples I want into the electronic pads and it’s a nice complement to the rest of the kit.

Tickets, 10,000 Days, Meshuggah

A few snippets today. According to several people there are unstantiated rumours going around in street magazines such as Beat saying there will be more ticket sales and/or shows coming up. Nothing to support this yet, but fingers crossed we should see some more action soon.

For all those who are hanging out to hear 10,000 Days played on Tool‘s tour, Justin gives us an update in the Mercury News:

“We’ve been rehearsing it, and it’s going to figure quite largely in the show,” Chancellor says. “There’s a side of it that’s very emotional in playing it, so it’ll be one of the hardest songs I think we’ve ever done. It goes pretty deep for all of us.”

Thanks to isdfx on Toolarmy for the link.

According to bastardometer on Toolarmy, Meshuggah are preparing to re-release their Nothing CD. The new edition of the album will include re-recorded guitars, as well as a special holographic case. Not my favorite Meshuggah CD, but I’m sure it’ll be interesting anyway.

Tour Dates, Vicarious Video Update

Blair‘s posted plenty of new tour dates on Toolband, including some East Coast US Dates, and some more European dates. Also confirmed was that Tool will be playing in Athens in December, though the venue is TBA. Apollo has blessed you.

There’s been lots of interest in the Vicarious video, and when it would be released. In response to this, Chronographer on Toolarmy posted a link to an interview with Adam, where he says they needed to hire a new CGI Team, with the implication that the onld one was crap. Expect the video (and DVD?) later this year…..
