Intronaut Tour Diary part 2

Part 2 of the Intronaut Tour Diary from the Tool Tour 2012 is up, and once again it’s an insightful and humorous read.  Here’s a sample (with a song name censored to protect the unspoilt):

1/18/12 9:00 pm - By the time we hit Tucson, we were pretty sick of Dave being an attention hog rock star jerk. Tonight in Albuquerque, Tool invited Danny [Walker] up to play drums on "XXX". I got some really good footage, but just as they were almost done with the song, Tool’s head of security grabbed me and made me delete the footage per their "no filming" rule. This rule is obviously really effective — check out one of five hundred YouTube clips from that show above.

Note that unlike the first diary entry the article contains mild spoilers.

Intronaut Tour Diary

Intronaut have been keeping a tour diary of the current Tool Tour, 2012 and have posted some humorous and insightful entries on the LA Weekly website (don’t worry it’s spoiler free):

1/14/12, 1:00 pm - We arrive at Reno Events Center and find a parking spot for our Dodge Sprinter van amidst Tool’s six tour buses and six big rig trucks. This is the first of many hilarious examples of disproportion we would experience throughout the tour. Tool’s production manager takes one look at our van and asks us if we’d be interested in having them carry our equipment in one of their trucks, since it takes up approximately 1/100th of one truck. We now get about one million more miles to each gallon of diesel. Thanks, Tool!

Not a huge article, but an interesting one worth reading!

Tool December 2012 Newsletter released, Intronaut support

Blair released the Tool 2012 Newsletter for December today, and it talks about Tool amongst other things.  Word is that 2012 should be a good year for Tool fans as “projects that have admittedly taken quite a while are now getting finished, and should soon be ready for you to scrutinize.”  One rumour floating around is that the video for The Pot may be shown at the coming Tool gigs.  You can read the newsletter on Toolband.

Speaking of Tool gigs, Kanaduh seems to think that Intronaut will be the support act for this tour, at least for the Toronto gig according to Ticketmaster, which sounds like a pretty good deal to me!

Here’s a track from Intronaut’s last album featuring Justin Chancellor:

August Updates

Here’s a bunch of news updates and things I’ve picked up of the last month but haven’t quite been motivated enough to create a new post for.

In case you missed it, Justin Chancellor will be appearing on a couple of tracks on the new Intronaut album Valley of Smoke.  The album will be released on the 12th of October so Rodney tells me.  No word on what Justin plays on but on track can be streamed on their Myspace site.

The X-Files/30 Days of Night issue #2 should be, or is very close to released now, and a review if can be found here.

Aaron Harris from Isis got married last weekend.  Several Tool members were in attendance so I heard, and according to Blair one of the wedding presents was a Danny Carey Signature Drum!  Congratulations to Aaron and Alexandra!

Maynard has a short interview in the latest issue of Relix Magazine, where he is featured in the Parting Shots section.  I haven’t read it but apparently the interview is largely about wine and doesn’t feature any real music news.  Thanks to Rick for that.

Justin working on musical project

According to a recent blog post from progressive metal band Intronaut, apparently Dave contributed drums two two tracks on a musical project with Justin:

Dave contributed drums to a song or two in a project with Justin Chancellor from Tool and a Polish guy named Peter. I’m a little afraid to try and describe the music, but it rules and kind of sounds like African techno with Polish lyrics. That’s actually not at all what it sounds like. Forget I said anything. It rules though! We’ve also been talking with these two characters about collaborating on a new Intronaut song.

Sounds intriguing!  Anyone have any idea who this Polish guy could be?

And here we were thinking that Justin’s done nothing but sit on his arse during the break.  Check out Intronaut’s music on their Myspace page.

Thanks to Lance for the tip!
