The Melvins to play in Australia

According to a recent post on the Ding Dong Lounge (a music venue in Melbourne):

American sludge metal band the MELVINS (USA) will be gracing the stage here in January, also featuring members of FANTôMAS (USA)…Stay tuned for dates and pre-sales!!

If they don’t play Adelaide I’ll be pissed…

Second Melbourne Tool show?

Terry posted on Facebook today that he noticed the recent Ticketek newsletter showed two Tool dates for Melbourne – the existing one on the 27th, and then a second on the 28th Nothing official has been announced, but it wouldn’t come as a huge shock to me to see a second show confirmed in the next few days.

On The Road

Well, the time has come for me to hit the road and check out a couple of Tool shows.  As a result I’ll be largely offline the next couple of days, however via the wonders of mobile technology I will probably tweet now and then.

The first A Perfect Circle gig in the USA for 2011 has just been announced at the Rock On The Range Festival in Ohio.  As more dates come I shall tweet them, and post a summary of them when I’m back in front of the PC this weekend.  Thanks to Toolshed1502 for the tip.  My advice is keep an eye on other prominent US festivals due to be announced in the coming weeks…

Too all the Tool fans travelling to Melbourne, I hope you get there in a safe and timely manner, and hopefully I’ll be seeing you at the BBQ tomorrow afternoon!

Fourtheye BBQ in Melbourne

As promised, we will be holding a Fourtheye BBQ in the park on the afternoon before the Tool gig at the Melbourne Sidney Myer Music Bowl next Wednesday.

The agenda is:

  • 3pm I arrive with some beer and some stuff for a BBQ
  • 4-4:30pm BBQ get fired up and people eat
  • 5:30pm madly scull and remaining beer before heading to the venue
  • 6pm onwards Watch Tool (at your own expense!)

We will be meeting at the BBQ area just south of the Music Bowl, exact location will be determined on the day pending BBQ availability.  Once I get there and select a spot, I will tweet the exact location on the Fourtheye twitter account, so stay tuned in to that on the afternoon for details.  Alternatively look out for a bunch of Tool fans next to a BBQ – shouldn’t be hard to miss! or send me an email and we can arrange some other form of communication.

The BBQ will be largely BYO, however I will be supplying some drinks. Depending on how many people turn up, these might last a while, or not last long at all. Bring your own meat, salad, etc for the BBQ. If anyone wants to get organised and coordinate bringing larger quantities of food then feel free to comment below. I’ll be fresh off the plane from Adelaide, so don’t expect me to be too well organised on the day!

The invitation is open to all, so bring your Tool loving friends along if you’d like. And you never know who else might turn up…

RSVP’s will help with catering if you know you’re coming, but are not mandatory.

The map is below. Note that the BBQs are in fact several between the two arrows. Follow the river and you should find us.

$70 to Spiral Out doesn’t sound too bad and you never know who you might bump into…

Pre-sale FAQ

I’ve had about 20 or so emails today asking about the pre-sales, so in an attempt to try and minimize the amount of time I spend logged into Gmail, here’s a compilation of what little we know about the presales.  As more information comes to hand I’ll try and keep this post updated.

UPDATE

Pre-sale details, which include a link and password to the sales are now up on Toolarmy. Tickets go on-sale at midday tomorrow, and according to Ticketek it will be 12:00PM AEST, which suggests it’s local time rather than daylight savings time. Please log into Toolarmy to view them, and remember that under no circumstances are they to be published anywhere on Fourtheye.

What we know:

  • Ticketmaster have details of a fanclub pre-sale for the Melbourne show on their site, which claims that tickets will go on sale on the 4th of November at 12:00pm.  12:00pm is usually lunchtime, not midnight.
  • Ticketek have no details on the Brisbane gig on their site.
  • Both sites are listing ticket prices at between $108 and $140.
  • Blair said in a Toolarmy exclusive post:

NOTE ABOUT PRE-SALES
I am still waiting for a link from the promoter for ToolArmy member pre-sales for the 2 ‘solo’ shows in Australia. As SOON as I get this, I will post the information.

They are all the facts we have.  Anything else out there is speculation.

How I think it’ll go down:

I imagine some time, probably on Thursday morning Australian time, Blair will post a password as a Toolarmy exclusive post.  This will probably include a link to the page on the appropriate ticketing agents site, though I doubt this link will be private.

Some speculate that Toolarmy members may get individually emailed passwords.  This may happen, but I’d be a little surprised if this were the case.

Should I join Toolarmy?

The answer is yes, probably.  Presuming the password gets posted as an exclusive post on Toolarmy, then the US$40 you’d spend to join is probably good value for money.  However, joining Toolarmy probably won’t guarantee you a ticket.  The presale will most likely be limited to a certain amount of tickets, so there is still probably an element of first in first served.  Nothing is guaranteed though, so don’t complain to me if you join Toolarmy and miss out.

Note: under no circumstances will the password or link to the pre-sale be published on Fourtheye.  Any comments which do so will be immediately removed.  Please don’t bug me for it, I won’t be giving it to anyone.

Danny announced Tool sideshows in Melbourne and Brisbane

According to reports from Cubanpete, Danny has been on Triple J this morning and mentioned that there will Tool sideshows in Brisbane and Melbourne.  According to the release on the Triple J site:

Mon 24 Jan – Entertainment Centre BRISBANE
Wed 2 Feb – Sidney Myer Music Bowl, MELBOURNE

Tickets for both shows go on sale Monday November 8. Get more info at bigdayout.com
Big Day Out promoters have said that these will be the only headline shows for the band on this tour.

Great news for Queenslanders!

Also mentioned was that fact that the Williams sisters love Tool!

The tennis star was in Melbourne playing the Australian Open. Carey reports that both Williams sisters are big rock fans and that Tool got invited to watch Serena win that tournament.

"I’m hoping she’s going to do well again this time in the Australian Open and have us down. Last time we had so much fun and we got to watch her whip Sharapova’s ass. It was awesome so we’re kinda hoping that’s going to happen again. Got to do the celebratory dinner with her after with her Mom and her hitting coach…. It was a blast. I hope she comes out to the gig this time. She couldn’t get away last time because she had too much press to do. I know the feeling!"

Update: Also mentioned was that New Zealand’s Jakob will be supporting, which is no huge surprise given that Aaron Harris will be coming with Tool and has done plenty of work with them.

Update 2: Here are some more ticketing details.  No word on price yet:

THE ASTOR THEATRE, ST. KILDA
Melbourne’s historic Astor Theatre, built in the 1930s, has a unique element of elegance and art-deco charm within its walls, providing a perfectly warm atmosphere for Alex and Allyson Grey to showcase their work through a variety of mediums.
The Astor Theatre is a cinema in the grand, old manner. The theatre’s proud boast is Fine Films and Atmosphere and the varied programme and “old-world” charm reflect this. When you walk intoThe Astor you are transported back to the days when going to the cinema was an EVENT

Makes the idea of coming to Melbourne a little more attractive, though I’m still waiting for a sideshow before I make that decision.

Thanks to Terry for the tip!

Primus & The Melvins Melbourne show

Just announced on Fasterlouder is the following cool show on the 3rd of March at The Palais in Melbourne:

Primus fans the world over were thrown into fits of sporadic air-bass when the influential US rockers announced in April that after a five year hiatus they were back in business. It seemed only logical that the band would eventually be nabbed by one of our summer festivals, and Soundwave ended up being the perfect fit.

In addition to their performances at Soundwave the band has just announced that they will be playing a one-off Sidewave in Melbourne as well. Joining the trio on the night will be the Godfathers of Grunge themselves, the Melvins who released their 20th studio album The Bride Screamed Murder in July this year.

Word is that this will be the only Sidewave for these two bands, which I know will piss off at least one Sydney Fourtheye reader.
