Happy Pencil, Micronaut
Bastardometer from Toolarmy mentioned that Cam De Leon has a new book available at her site. It features some great artwork, and also some conceptual design drawings used for many of Tool’s album covers and videos.
Adam’s myspace site also has a new image gallery called Micronaut. COuld this be a preview of the new video? Is the new single called Micronaut? Only time will tell I guess, either way it looks pretty cool.
From John Ziegler
John Ziegler from Pigmy Love Circus has written the following regarding the new Tool CD, presumably on his Myspace site, though I haven’t had time to check that. Thanks to Bastardometer on Toolarmy for the heads up.
the tools have put in a good year and a half working on the songs for this one.
mjk even has words and melodies for the tunes already!
and to be honest, i’ve heard all the demos for the cuts that are going on the album…
i was even asked to critque em a few times…haha(danny is nuts)!
and i can safely say this….
with a few epic 15 minute plus tunes in the program…
IMO… think “meddle” meets “master of reality” meets “discipline” meets “undertow”.
on top of that, with joe barresi engineering….it’s gonna be KILLER!
prog rock is gonna be crunchin’ and slithering towards the masses once again in a few months!choice!
thanx and cheers,
john Z
Sounds good to me….
New “Tool” Single
The new “Tool” single, The 81st Chakra is now available. Sounds like Maynard needs to take some Anger Management classes….
Adams Myspace Update
Adams Myspace site has been updated, this time with pictures from a carnival, with the “adamjones.tv” logo on them. Is this a sign his website will come to fruition soon?
Toolarmy members also seem to have a new recording photo, this particular one looks like a photo of Adams Guitar rig. Hopefully this trend will continue. Non Toolarmy members will have to wait approximately 0.666 seconds for this picture to creep it’s way onto the internet.
Edit: 0.666 seconds later…..
August Newsletter
In case you haven’t noticed yet, Blair’s August Newsletter is up, feature not only the usual obscurity, but also some studio goodness. Many pictures are up, including lots already seen on Adam’s Myspace site, but there’s also plenty of new ones.
CHeck it out at Toolband.
Joshua Davis Updates
Found this on Toolarmy this morning, apparently an update (source unknown) from Joshua Davis regarding the new CD, Website, and other stuff.
Joshua Davis (Grandmaster Flash) Spark 05 Hamilton
On Tool:
Recording began recently – as in August (dates and pics from Adam’s myspace are accurate).
No suggestion of a possible release date for the album or new website(s).
The website will be updated when finances are made available to direct into the project – money is currently tied up with recording.
The band funds promotions/videos etc. for itself only using the ‘label’ for distribution of the album/cd.
Touring revenue accounts for the majority of the bands income – very little is made from album sales.
T-shirt/Poster/Album art may come from some of Joshua’s flash animations.
More footage was shot during rehearsal of the new material and may appear in some form later. He is unable to make it available until the album is out (for obvious reasons).
Each rehearsal (approx. 1p – 4p daily) would begin with playing a few old songs (see Lateralus clip) and then move into the new stuff.
Hope this is helpful to someone and i haven’t made too many errors.
There have also been a couple of other posts from Blair on Toolband in the last week, none regarding the signed vinyl, but one saying that Volto! will be playing later this week (possibly even tonight). If you’re somewhere in LA and you go and see it, let me know what it was like!
Haiku’s and Pictures
For Haiku fans out there, you may want to check out Maynard’s website, which has been updated with a peom for all his friends. Uh yeah…..
Those interested in the Tool recording progress should continue to check Adam’s Blog, as there have been more pictures added in the last couple of days, and it looks as though it may become a regular occurance. It looks like King Buzzo and Josh Homme have paid a visit.
Cam De Leon
I came across this post on Toolarmy this morning (thanks Stingers) which comes from Cam’s Myspace site, and outlines some interesting facts regarding work Cam has done for Tool. Some interesting facts:
Hey there -
Sorry for the late reply (not the first nor the last). It’s crazy busy over here, so I can get a bit buried, but Renny (my son) is keeping an eye on the myspace stuff for me, and he just nudged me to respond.
I sure appreciate the interest in my work. Honestly, it means plenty to me.
Regarding the Latralus album, Tool has done a very nice (and appropriate) job of promoting the fact that all the art on that album was made by the amazing Alex Grey, with the exception of the truly beautiful graphic layout on the back of the slipcover, which was designed by the very talented Mackie Osborne. I had nothing to do with that particular package. My only contribution(s) to Lateralis was the design of the set’s, characters, color palette, and the body painting of the principle characters in the “Schism” video. Chet was resposible for the design of the head of the “male” character in that video, and had the impossibly daunting task of being in charge of all make-up and many phisical set peices as well. He had the worst of it, but both he and I nearly did ourselves in on that project. The body painting of the 2 Osseus Laberint dancers alone required 23 straight hours of very concentrated work (hardest on the dancers, Hanna and Mark) standing on a cement floor without a break. No, I don’t mean to appeal to your sypathies; just thought you might be interested to know a little of what goes into this stuff.
As for Salival; I designed and painted the figure for that package after a little brainstorming session with Adam and Chet. Then once that was done, Chet carefully modeled (in Lightwave) the 3-D figure that the painting was then “mapped” onto. That made it possible for the figure to be rotated, and various screenshots taken, for the interior illustrations of the booklet that came with the DVD. The version you see on my website (Salival Figure) is the original image I made without any 3-D elements.
Thanks for giving me the opportunity to help clear some of that up. There has been a huge amount of confusion as to the work I’ve done that Tool has used over the 9 – 10 years I was contributing imagery to the art-rock party. So, it’s nice to be able to address some of that. Thanks.
Any other questions, lemme know. I’m sure Renny will rattle my cage, and I’ll reply ASAP.

Vinyl Arrives, Toolarmy Updates.
There’s been many posts on Toolband and Toolarmy lately, mainly involving the Vinyl release. Those Americans who’ve ordered the vinyl (non-autographed) should have recieved it by now, or will recieve it shortly. Still no firm details on the Autographed vinyl though.
Word on the boards is the Toolarmy’s boards will be recieving and update sometime in the foreseeable future, and that pruning is currently underway. Seeing as there’s been many promises of things afoot on the TA site, and nothing delivered as yet, I’m not holing my breath, however I would expect there to be an update to the site, probably coinciding with much vaunted Joshua Davis collaboration.
Adam has been posting pics from the recording studio up on his Blog lately. Interestingly it indicates that they’re only up to day 6 in the studio, though I have no idea whether this is implying that the last post was on day six (Sunday the 14th of August), or more likely sometime earlier. It also definitely looks like Joe Barassi is taking part. Still, the idea of it being release in August seems pretty damn unlikely, unless of course this is a second CD they’re recording….
For those who can’t be bothered following links, or just don’t like Myspace, here’s some of the pics. Presumably they’ve been censored to protect the guilty parties.
