Melvins Earthquake Update

As I’m sure most of you know by now, Christchurch in New Zealand suffered from a devastating earthquake yesterday afternoon, resulting in a great deal of pain and damage for it’s residents.  The Melvins were in town having just played a series of gigs on the south island, and as the airport was closed were stuck in Christchurch last night unable to make it to their Wellington gig.  Details on their plans for the rest of the NZ tour can be found here.

Our thought are with all the residents of Christchurch, a beautiful town I’ve been lucky enough to visit, and anyone wanting to make a donation can find details here.

Tool Big Day Out rumours ramping up…

There has been much speculation in the past few weeks, part of it from me about Tool playing the Big Day Out here in Australia and New Zealand in 2011.  Blair has made several hints towards and Australian tour in recent newsletters, and just now the Big Day Out Facebook page has just released the following clue:

One of the Big Day Out 2011 headline acts live in Los Angeles, California, USA. The other headliner doesn’t. Both are bands, neither are solo performers.

Sound like anyone we know?  LA is a big place I suppose, so it could be any number of acts, but there is plenty of things pointing to Tool being Down Under this summer.  I guess there’s also an outside chance it’s A Perfect Circle…

Tool last visited Australia & NZ as part of the Big Day Out tour in 2007, and at the time promised they’d be back later that year.  Danny injured himself and the tour never happened, so perhaps this some kind of payback for us…

Isis announce Sidewaves

We’ve know for a couple of months now that Isis are touring Australia as part of the Soundwave Festival in February 2010.  Today the band announced that they will be playing a series of sideshows on the East Coast:

  • February 18th Brisbane @ The Hi-Fi
  • February 23rd Sydney @ Manning Bar
  • February 25th Melbourne @ The Corner Hotel

For those that missed it, they are also playing shows in Auckland and Wellington for our comrades across the Tasman.   Apparently Baroness are supporting them in Japan following these dates, so I’d say there’s a good chance they’ll also support for these shows as well.

Isis schedule NZ Gigs

Isis, who are coming down to Australia for the Soundwave Festival, have lined up a couple of gigs in New Zealand.  One in Auckland, and another in Wellington - too bad Southern Islanders!

The gigs are:

  • SFBH, Wellington (18+), Monday February 15th
  • Transmission Room, Auckland (All Ages and Licensed) Tuesday February 16th

Tickets go on sale August 24th from Moshtix (0800MOSHTIX, www.moshtix.co.nz and Real Groovy) and www.undertheradar.co.nz.

According to Aaron Harris‘ Twitter account, there should be some Isis solo gigs in February, though at this stage I’d suggest we’re talking about Sydney and Melbourne only.

The Melvins Australia/NZ Tour Dates

The Melvins will be playing a few shows in Australia and New Zealand in January 2009 as described below:

Word on the street is that Melvins will be playing some shows in Australia in January ’09 while Fantomas is down under doing the Big Day Out 2009 festival dates. Be sure to check Ipecac’s calendar for up to date info on Fantomas shows. These Melvins dates will most likely be the lineup of Buzz, Dale, & Trevor Dunn on bass. The tentative dates so far:

  • January, 15 2009 – Aukland, New Zealand – TBA
  • January, 22 2009 – Sydney, Australia – TBA
  • January, 27 2009 – Melbourne, Australia – Ding Dong Lounge

Too bad the Melbourne show is on a weeknight otherwise I would have considered going over.  From what I understand this isn’t a proper tour and I look forward to a The Melvins/Big Business tour later in 2009…
