Puscifer announce Australian tour in January 2017

Puscifer will be bringing their Money $hot tour Down Under in January, with dates all over Australia and New Zealand, including a headline slot on the Mofo Festival in Tasmania.  Here’s the press release:

Returning to Australia in January 2017, the genre-defying Puscifer will unleash their legendary Money $hot – Round Under Tour on audiences around the country across four huge all-ages shows. The Money $hot tour will take in Melbourne’s Plenary MCEC on Sunday 22nd January, Adelaide’s Thebarton Theatre on Monday 23rd January, Sydney’s Darling Harbour Theatre, ICC on Wednesday 25th January and will wrap up with the ultimate Australia Day party at the Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre on Thursday 26th January.

Puscifer will descend on Australia straight off the back of a mammoth world tour that marries the concept of concert and theatre, and has been chalking up epic reviews from around the globe:

“Welcome to one of the most intoxicating, semi-befuddling and downright incredible live shows, well, ever… Puscifer’s whole philosophy is about making their live show a unique experience… Nothing is more impressive than the performance, though… one of the best live bands on the planet.” – Kerrang!

“Mindbending, brain-frying, totally unique and definitely worth the wait. Gig of the year. Done.” – Metal Hammer

“Maynard James Keenan’s vocals were in beautiful harmony with Carina Round’s… (this together with) the stunning visuals that accompanied Puscifer’s show throughout the night, made for an incredible gig that won’t be easily forgotten.” – Loudwire

The brainchild of one of music’s most enigmatic personalities, Maynard James Keenan, Puscifer is an accomplished collective of musicians. Puscifer’s touring line-up is Keenan, guitar player Mat Mitchell, singer Carina Round, drummer Jeff Friedl, keyboard player/vocalist Mahsa Zargaran and the newest addition, bass player Paul Barker (Ministry, Lead Into Gold).

‘Money Shot’, Puscifer’s third studio album released in October 2015, is the most confident release to date and easily the most openly “Maynard James Keenan” of the bunch.

“I don’t really know how else to talk about it other than it’s more,” says Keenan. “It really is kind of a culmination of all the things I’ve been exposed to and inspired by over the years. That combination of the digital programming combined with that acoustic element of the harmonies…. Trying to find that actual pulse, that breath of life within the digital landscape — and then just going ahead and bringing it in for real.”

“Money Shot takes a more refined approach to all the things that make Puscifer Puscifer”, wrote Rolling Stone. “The raunchy sense of humor is still there, but the overall mood of melodically pulsing songs like “Grand Canyon,” “Galileo” and “The Remedy” is darker, more sombre and more reflective… Money Shot feels like the most focused work the band has created to date, and maybe also the most personal.”

Do yourself a favour, and don’t miss this one-off live experience  when it rolls into town in January.

The Melvins Australia/NZ Tour Dates

The Melvins will be playing a few shows in Australia and New Zealand in January 2009 as described below:

Word on the street is that Melvins will be playing some shows in Australia in January ’09 while Fantomas is down under doing the Big Day Out 2009 festival dates. Be sure to check Ipecac’s calendar for up to date info on Fantomas shows. These Melvins dates will most likely be the lineup of Buzz, Dale, & Trevor Dunn on bass. The tentative dates so far:

  • January, 15 2009 – Aukland, New Zealand – TBA
  • January, 22 2009 – Sydney, Australia – TBA
  • January, 27 2009 – Melbourne, Australia – Ding Dong Lounge

Too bad the Melbourne show is on a weeknight otherwise I would have considered going over.  From what I understand this isn’t a proper tour and I look forward to a The Melvins/Big Business tour later in 2009…

NZ Fans get Meshuggah

Some of our comrades from across the Tasman will be happy to hear that Meshuggah are playing in Auckland on the 10th of October. Of course this probably sucks for all the cool people on the South Island, but it’s better than nothing I suppose. Blabbermouth has all the details!

Jakob unleash Sines

New Zealand instrumental post-rock band, and regular Tool touring buddies Jakob are preparing to release their long awaited new LP Sines in a couple of days. These guys joined Tool on tour Down Under in 2011 and then again for a show in NZ in 2013. Justin even joined them on-stage in a memorable set at the Sidney Myer Music Bowl. In a recent interview with Off The Tracks they talked about meeting Adam for the first time:

“we meet Tool. Which was, you know, huge. We’re all big fans of the band, we played that stuff in school and they were one of the bands to follow, you know. Jakob actually played Tool covers in school. So we’re playing on the bill with Isis, in L.A. at the Troubadour, it’s the last gig of the tour and we’re the first of three bands on the bill so we’ve got five minutes before we are due to play. And Adam [Jones] from Tool comes into the Green Room – which is this mezzanine where you can look down onto the bands Jakob 1that are playing – and he introduces himself. And then we’re offered to tour with Tool. We’re like ‘fuck yeah!’ – but our visa was due to run out right then. So we had to say no. Which was tough obviously, really gutting”.

You can pre-order the new album either on iTunes or via Bandcamp below:

Arizona Stronghold wines now available in NZ

For our New Zealand wine loving brethren it seems that United Cellars are now selling Maynard’s finest Arizona Stronghold wines directly to your door. Prices are reasonably high (starting at NZ$49 a bottle for the Mandala red or white), but it’s worth a look if you want to support Maynard and his wine making endeavors.

Jakob confirmed as NZ support act

Looks like New Zealand post-rock act Jakob have been confirmed as the support act for Tool when they play their two shows in Auckland. For those who haven’t been paying attention, Jakob also supported Tool in Australia back in 2011. Not sure why they didn’t get the gig for the whole tour, I can only presume there was some kind of scheduling issue. Here’s a track of theirs for you to enjoy!

Danny & Maynard speak to Rip It Up NZ

There was a flurry of interviews with Tool earlier this year, and we were promised ones with Danny and Maynard via New Zealand’s Rip It Up magazine. Finally those interviews have appeared on line for your reading pleasure. Here’s an excerpt:

You probably get sick of questions about how the record’s going, but – I mean you’re in a studio making new material, then you’re preparing to tour with older stuff – how does all that sync up in your brain?
We are really just in a rehearsal space at this point, we never really get into a proper studio until everything is completely written, then we book time and knock out the recording process as quickly as possible. So we’re still like in the writing mode. So we’re in the rehearsal space here, so we start our rehearsals playing through the old songs to get the cobwebs out of those: we have a gig coming up, then we start working on the new things. So that works out OK, that way.

I read in a recent interview that you’re working on, I guess, the “Lateralus” of this album – your big song that’s going to define the whole record – how’s that coming?
Um: really good. I mean we’re still – believe it or not! – still working on it [laughter] – it’s like an ever-evolving thing, it’s probably going to turn into a thing that’s like, uh, a big trilogy type of feel to it, sort of life, just like Disposition and Intension and Triad, like on the Lateralus record or something. It will probably be over a 20-minute piece when it’s all finished, so it will be a good part of the record. We’re dealing with it in sections, but it’s coming together really well, we’re having lots of fun working on it, that’s for sure.

Interesting interviews, though it doesn’t really cover much we haven’t already read.

New Tool Shows Announced

New Tool shows in Melbourne, Sydney and Auckland have been announced, and all shows are on sale now!

Due to overwhelming public demand this morning for tickets to Tool’s upcoming concerts in Sydney & Melbourne, The Frontier Touring Company announce a second show in both cities; Sunday 28 April at Melbourne’s Rod Laver Arena and Saturday 4 May at Sydney’s Allphones Arena.

Head over to the Frontier tour page for details. Don’t hold your breath for any more dates!

Reminder: Tool public ticket sales

Just a quick reminder for those who didn’t acquire tickets via the pre sale that the public sale for the Australian and New Zealand Tool shows takes place tomorrow at 9am local time. Based on pre sale data, I’d expect Melbourne and Sydney shows to tell out within a few hours, and Brisbane not too long afterwards. I have posted a rumour about a second Tool show in Melbourne (and I’ve heard similar rumours about second shows in Sydney and Auckland as well) however neither particularly compelling – my advice is prepare yourself as though there will be no second shows! Head over to the Tour Page is you need more ticket information.

The good news is that having read many of your posts on the blog and forum, it appears as though most Fourtheye readers have been able to get tickets, and while I know some of you will be aiming to improve your seats, at least most of you can rest easy knowing you will be able to see Tool play live this April & May.

Good luck!

Update 1: Second NZ show has been added for the 9th of May – tickets on sale now!
