Justin talks about San Bernadino show

Adam had his chance, now Justin Chancellor speaks OC Weekly about the San Bernadino Tool show coming up this weekend.  He opens up a bit about some of the other acts playing on the weekend including Primus:

“My fourth gig I ever did with Tool was at the Oakland Coliseum. We supported Primus,” Chancellor said. “I was like 25 and it was all very overwhelming. To come full circle and be touring with them last year, and actually not be quite so intimidated and shy, and be able to strike up some relationships with these people has been really fantastic.”

Adam talks about the San Bernadino not-festival

Adam Jones from Tool recently had a chat with Kelli from the Orange County Register, in which he discussed a few things about the current tour and upcoming San Bernadino show.  He suggests that they’re still working on the album (though doesn’t give any clues as to when it’ll be done), and that the coming San Bernadino show isn’t a festival!

“We’re not using the ‘F-word’ on this – you know, festival,” Jones said. “It was just a nice opportunity since we were playing that outdoor venue to be like, ‘We’ll let’s add one more band. OK, wait, let’s at one more.  OK, maybe one more.’

“Our band has always taken the route of what would we want if we went to a show and what I would want if I bought a ticket, a T-shirt or a record, is to get my money’s worth. We didn’t have to up the price of the ticket or anything like that for this show, we just had to fatten the budget a little so we could have more bands and just make a fun day of it. It’s definitely not going to be like Lollapalooza or anything, just a day with bands that you can come out, enjoy and have a good time.”

The interview is reasonably short, and worth a quick read.

In the meantime, the summer tour seems to be going pretty well.  I’ve held back reporting on it wanting to not spoil those who are seeing them later in the tour.  it’s safe to say that it’s not what some boldly predicted it to be (ie. a month long album launch party) but there have been a couple of small surprises.  For those that want to delve deeper into these spoilers they can check out this thread in our forum.

Fantômas and Clutch join Tool show in SoCal

Announced this morning are the two “special guests” promised for the Tool show in San Bernadino this June.  They are Fantômas and Clutch, who are both great additions to the lineup!

Anyway, this sounds like a great show.  Wish I could be there, but seems unlikely to happen!  Looking forward to hearing reports from all Fourtheye readers who attend!

ADDITIONAL SPECIAL GUESTS ANNOUNCED FOR
TOOL’S ONLY SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA SHOW

CLUTCH AND FANTOMAS
JOIN LINEUP FOR SATURDAY, JUNE 24 SHOW
AT GLEN HELEN AMPHITHEATER IN DEVORE, CA

“Clutch and Fantômas–in a very rare live performance–will join iconic band TOOL along with PRIMUS, MELVINS, and DJ sets by THE CRYSTAL METHOD at Glen Helen Amphitheater in Southern California on Saturday, June 24, 2017.

Clutch–known for pushing the boundaries that define heavy rock music–is one of the world’s most respected and influential hard rock bands. Clutch is touring in support of their 11th studio album Psychic Warfare, while laying the groundwork for their next studio album.

The brainchild of Mike Patton, Fantômas is an anti-hero from a series of pre-WWI French crime novels, sometimes dubbed the “lord of terror.” Rounding out the lineup are Buzz Osborne on guitar (Melvins), Trevor Dunn on bass (Mr. Bungle, Trevor Dunn’s Trio-Convulsant) and Dale Crover (Melvins) on drums. This will mark the band’s first U.S. show since 2008.

This is a unique opportunity to experience Tool’s unparalleled sonic and visual performance, along with live sets by some of the most highly acclaimed artists beneath the picturesque San Bernardino Mountains in Devore, CA, just outside Los Angeles.

Tickets for the show–which is produced by Danny Wimmer Presents and Live Nation Los Angeles-are on sale now at www.Ticketmaster.com.

Glen Helen Amphitheater is a short drive from Los Angeles County, Orange County, San Francisco, Las Vegas, Phoenix, Tucson, San Diego, the San Joaquin Valley, and many more cities in the Southwestern U.S.”

Interestingly this doesn’t line up with the band reportedly mentioned by Danny at the Baked Potato recently.  That band was Killing Joke, who are in fact on tour in Europe while this show goes ahead.  Miscommunication perhaps, or just a killer joke?

Tool announce huge San Bernadino show

Most of us already knew that a San Bernadino show was coming, but Tool have made a big announcement this morning telling us that the support acts for this gig will include both The Melvins and Primus as well as Live DJ Sets from The Crystal Method + a yet to be announced guest.

Sounds like a great event – this time around there doesn’t appear to be a VIP session, or at least they haven’t announced one.

We are very excited to announce the unparalleled sonic and visual experience of TOOL LIVE IN CONCERT in the high-spirited setting of the GLEN HELEN AMPHITHEATER in SAN BERNARDINO, CALIFORNIA on JUNE 24, 2017.

Other bands on the bill for this monumental event in the Inland Empire include PRIMUS, the MELVINS, and the electronic spectacle of LIVE DJ SETS from THE CRYSTAL METHOD.

For the occasion, the band will also have an additional SPECIAL GUEST to be announced soon. Quite simply, fans of TOOL will not want to miss this SUMMER HAPPENING featuring critically acclaimed bands (and friends) on a stage where anything can happen.
