Mackie Osbourne Interview

For those that don’t know, Mackie Osbourne has been involved with creating artwork for the last couple of Tool albums, as well as various bits and pieces released recently (DVD’s and such). You may also know her as the wife of The Melvins guitarist King Buzzo. Today, while surfing the net I can across this interesting interview on TheMelvins.net. She talks about her work in general, and makes a couple of mentions of working for Tool:

Rokko: Do certain musicians tell you what you should be doing and how
their record should look?

Mackie: You’re very perceptive, Mike pretty
much dictated the whole thing – layout, type choices, the sunset image,
the flowers. Adam from Tool always has a very specific idea what he
wants. The Melvins are completely the opposite, they give me complete
creative freedom. Both approaches have produced some really great work
and I enjoy working within the limitations of a very specific direction
as well as working completely without boundaries. Basically, it’s all
good.

I didn’t know she worked on Mr. Bungle’s California. Enjoy!

Maynard joins Tom Morello, The Melvins new album

According to a recent post on Fuzz.com Maynard will be joining Tom Morello on his upcomingNightwatchmen tour:

Rage Against the Machine guitarist Tom Morello’s alter ego, The Nightwatchman, will kick off a two week tour starting April 15th with special guests in each city, including: Slash, Ben Harper, Perry Farrell, Maynard James Keenan of Tool and Puscifer, Boots Riley of The Coup and more to be announced.

Not exactly sure what the tourdates are, but I’d expect the gig featuring Maynard to be at the Los Angeles date.

The Melvins have announced their new album Nude With Boots which will be released on the 8th of July. The album will feature the same line-up as (A) Senile Animal (ie. with Big Business), and the release should be followed by a tour. Come to Australia this time please!

The Melvins + Big Business Recording & Touring

j0hnnygu3st from Toolarmy sent word of this recent entry on the Big Business Myspace Blog:

I know it’s late, but it’s high time we get everyone on the same page for the upcoming year in Big Business.

Right now I am sitting in a recording studio in Hollywood as Jared is doubling his bass parts on a new Melvins record. Check out the photos in our photos. It has a name, and we’ll be spilling the beans on that one shortly. Everything seems to be going as planned, so expect some freaky deep cuts on this one. Toshi Kasai is at the control thing, doing stuff you and I probably will never understand. Dale is starting a fire outside, signaling the first bbq of the year is about to be underway. Once this is wrapped up, The Biz will be finishing up our latest batch of songs and hopefully recording this spring. Our touring schedule for the year is still being figured out, but we know this: the Melvins and Big Business are touring Europe in the fall. We’ll post more info as it comes in. We have high hopes that some special plans we’ve been planning for years will come to fruition in 2008. Come fly with us.

We love you so much right now.

Pretty awesome news if you ask me, since both A Senile Animal and Here Come The Waterworks were both kickass albums.  Hopefully they’ll get around to touring Australia this time too…

Holiday in San Francisco, 10000 DVDs?

According to Indacello, Jello Biafra joined Tool onstage last night in San Francisco for a version of Holiday in Cambodia.  Guests joining Tool this tour during lateralus include Sebastian from Trans Am, Dale from The Melvins, Cody from Big Business, Tim Alexander from Primus and Aaron from Isis.  Perhaps Tool should tour with The Mark of Cain while in Australia so John Stanier can join them on stage…

According to Marco, a website in the Netherlands is claiming that the Vicarious DVD will be limited to 10,000 copies.  I’m not so sure of that, but order yourself a copy just in case!

Gear Tour with Buzz

MetalKult.com have a great video interview with King Buzzo from The Melvins.  He talks about a range of topics including the importance of drugs, song dynamics, and how the addition of the Big Business rhythm section affects the Melvins’ sound.  Well worth checking out if you like the Melvins, and/or have an interest in guitar playing a guitar rig setups

Buzz has a great attitude towards music and music writing, and I think aspiring musicians would do well to take some notes from what he says.  He also has an evil laugh.  Please come back to Australia soon Buzz, with Big Business if you don’t mind.

More Shred School Info, The Melvins

According to Blair, at the Shred School you can expect:

ADAM’S teaching at SHRED SCHOOL (see post below), and I’m fairly certain that he’s going to go above and beyond, bringing artwork, etc. (you know those Tool productions…), so if you’re planning on giving him an apple, make it blue, with a Star of Babalon inscibed inside.

Also mentioned is that Buzz & Dale from The Mevlins are performing at Echo in Silverlight. He doesn’t have any other details apart from that it’s a benefit gig for a friend. No idea of the date though, presumably tonight???? Thanks to perusha on Toolarmy, the gig is on the 4th of August and is with Qui and The Circle Jerks.  For those that don’t know Qui features David Yow from The Jesus Lizard.  Here’s hoping he joins The Melvins for a song or two…..

The Melvins at The Troubadour

This Friday the 27th of July, the Melvins will be playing at The Troubadour in HollywoodTrevor Dunn from Fantomas will be taking care of bass playing this show, and they’re expecting to play the entire Lysol and Eggnog albums.  Blair tells us that some members of Tool might be there.  Adam playing with the guys perhaps?
