Tool play Epicenter 09

Tool have been revealed as the headline act for the Epicenter Festival in Pomona, CA on August 22nd.  Other acts on the bill include Linkin Park, Alice In Chains, Wolfmother, Atmosphere, Atreyu and Tom Morello’s Street Sweeper Social Club.  Tickets go on sale this Saturday on Ticketmaster.

Presumably this is the SoCal show that Blair has hinted at before.  The gig is not yet confirmed on Toolband, but expect it to be in the near future.

Bad news for Minnesotans

According to a recent post on the 93XRocks website:

We had been promised a Tool concert in August, but 93X has just learned that the band was not able to schedule in a date for St. Paul, as earlier planned. Band management tells 93X that:

“The band had every intention of playing St.Paul but they just couldn’t get the routing to work for this very short two-week mini tour.”

Bad luck guys.  Looks like despite my initial thoughts, Lollapalooza may be the final show of the tour after all.  This being the case I’d expect there to maybe only one or two shows left to be announced – if at all.

Thanks to Kesus from Toolarmy for the tip.

New Tour Dates

Been away hiking through the Flinders Ranges the last couple of days, so have been a bit slack with the updates.

In case any of you have missed it, there have been a couple of new dates confirmed on the upcoming Tool summer tour.  Toronto has been confirmed, and a new show in Cincinnatti has been added:

  • AUGUST 5/09 – Toronto, ON – Molson Amphitheatre / ON-SALE 6/13
  • AUGUST 7/09 – Cincinnati, OH – PNC Pavilion / ON-SALE 6/20

In other Tool-ish news, check out the Offline by Matthew Santoro thread for much “Big Thing” speculation, including comments from Tool Lighting Dude Junior.

Blair’s Cryptic Post

Blair Someone has posted another cryptic article on Toolband/Army today, this time alluding to preparation for the upcoming tour:

I and a few others have to go to California next week to start getting some things ready for this summer run. I’ve had some work here that I could have dragged through the coming week but decided to gracefully duck out of it and grant myself some freetime before departure. Had a storm come in today from over the tops of the Adirondack mountains that drove a pine tree into my driveway. That should take one day to deal with. My uncles boat got blown off its mooring and ended up near the beach. That should take another day to deal with. My dad is 78 years old and blind in one eye and has to go in for his drivers exam-road test! Probably half the afternoon on Thursday. The whole afternoon if he starts making threats at the DMV… The Captain is in Moscow, leaving Miz Kalashnikov and myself to plan out the next couple of weeks. Junior is pissed at me, I think. Should probably deal with that tomorrow… I asked for it anyway. Lesson: Always give yourself a little bit more time than you think you might need.

Looks like it’s ripe for decoding, for those that are inclined.  I did I quick search and noticed that the Adirondack Mountains are in New York State, so perhaps those from that area shouldn’t give up hope.

Of course this could all mean nothing – time will tell…

Danny Comments on the Tour

According to a recent article on Blabbermouth:

TOOL drummer Danny Carey told The Pulse of Radio that unlike some groups, the members of the band still travel together on the road. “We pretty much all travel together,” he said. “We kind of have to, you know, just for the logistics of everything going down. The schedule gets pretty tight, especially at the beginning of the tour, ’cause there are lots of interviews and, you know, soundchecks. Everything’s pretty scheduled out. We’re on a bus pretty much all the time in Europe. In America it varies. Sometimes we fly, sometimes we bus it.”

I also mentions that Lollapalooza is the last scheduled show.  Not sure how much I read into that comment, I think they’re talking in regards to the dates provided so far – I expect there will be further shows after that festival gig.

APC on Guitar Hero 5, Atlanta change

A couple of readers emailed me to let me know that A Perfect Circle will be appearing on Guitar Hero 5.  Details of this news and other bands announced can be found at Rolling Stone.  No word on what track will appear, but I’d put my money on it being Judith.

A couple of tour changes were announced on Toolband today.  Firstly the Atlanta show which appeared to have a venue clash has been replaced by a show in Duluth at the Gwinnett Arena, tickets on sale June 6th.  Not sure where Duluth is personally, but I imagine it’s somewhere near Atlanta.  Also the On Sale date for tickets to the New Mexico show has been shifted to the 6th.

Toronto Rumour, Danny’s Drum

Got an email today talking of “rumours flying around” about a Toronto Tool gig at the Molson Ampitheatre on the 7th of August. Seems to fit into their current schedule, but I’ve heard nothing concrete at this stage.  Have added this to the rumours section on the  Tour Page.

Also, Blair posted an article on Toolband talking about a Volto! gig on the 5th of June.  Included with the article is this cool pic of Danny with a snare drum featuring some Alex Grey artwork.
