More dates are to come.

Thanks to 20 or so of you emailing me to let me know about these dates.  While I appreciate news tips and emails from all my readers, you guys probably don’t need to email me stuff published on the main news page of Toolband.  The main reason it’s there and not here is usually because I’m still asleep!

Update: SoulRebel reports that another act is booked into the Atlanta venue on the 27th of July, so expect some kind of correction here (hopefully not a double booking!)

Justin comments on Tool Tour via Rolling Stone

According to ditchrider1 on Toolarmy, the following snippet appeared in the latest Rolling Stone:

Tool
July 18th-August 8th

“The Prog metal crew will take a break from working on a new album for a three-week tour built around slots at Lollapalooza, All Points West and the Mile High Festival. Even though Tool won’t be debuting new music, bassist Justin Chancellor says the group will “rework some old stuff and maybe throw in a few covers.” Fans can expect an intense multimedia show similar to the last tour.”

Presumably in the magazine, as I can’t find this on the Rolling Stone website.  Sounds like we can expect the same stage show, but with a few different tunes thrown in from last time round.

Dallas Sold Out!

As I’m sure most of us anticipated, the Tool gig in Dallas at the Nokia Centre sold out pretty damn fast.  Nice work to those who got tickets, condolences to those that didn’t.  No doubt there will be much discussion about scalpers and the like – something I won’t go into at this stage – and we’re all aware on what negative impact they have on ticket sales to needy fans.  I expect other gigs in this tour will also sell out in similar short time.

I will say though that as in the past Fourtheye has helped by advertising unwanted tickets, and it will be the same this time round.  For Fourtheye readers with tickets who are willing to sell them at face value, I will always be happy to adertise them here free of charge.  Just use the Contact form to let me know what you have.

Tool show in Phoenix, AZ?

Area623 from Toolarmy had this to say today:

Called the US Airways Center Event Information Hotline and asked them when Tool tickets go on sale. They told me to call back next week as everything still isn’t concrete and that they’ll have more information then. July date??

Think of this what you will…

Update: Word is it will be the 21st of July.

Summer Tour Information

There are plenty of questions (and many more unanswered) about the upcoming Tool tour.  In order to alleviate some of these concerns, and to help readers make better decisions about what shows to go see, I have created the Tool Summer 2009 Tour page, which contains all currently known information regarding the tour.

Not really much more to say, except it wil be updated as I recieve news, both from Tool and from Fourtheye readers.  Enjoy!

Summer Tour 2009

Tool will be embarking on a small tour in the US  and Canada in the summer of 2009.  The dates largely revolve around a couple of large festivals they’ve decided to play this year. Reviews and Setlists for the shows can be found below.  Anyone with anything to submit – pictures, video, audio, reviews or comments let me know via hellboy@fourtheye.net.

Dates

Dates are listed below, and beneath them are any reviews.  No further dates are expected at this late stage.  Links go to further information regarding the show or a ticket vendor:

  • 18th July Mile High Music Festival, CO
  • 19th July Energy Solutions Centre, Salt Lake City, UT
  • 21st July Us Airways Arena,  Phoenix, AZ

  • 24th July AT@T Center, San Antonio, TX
  • 25th July Nokia Centre, Dallas, TX
  • 27th July Gwinnett Arena, Duluth, GA
  • 29th July Bojangle’s Coliseum, Charlotte, NC
  • 30th July Patriot Center, Fairfax, VA
  • 1st August All Points West Festival, Jersey City, NJ
  • 2nd August Verizon Arena, Manchester, NH
  • 4th August K-Rock Centre, Kingston, Ontario
  • 5th August, Molson Ampitheatre, Toronto, Canada
  • 7th August, PNC Center, Cincinnatti, OH
  • 8th August Lollapalooza Festival, Grant Park, Chicago, IL
  • 22nd August Epicenter Festival, Pomona, CA

Set List

There was much discussion about the set list.  Many people took issue with the static nature of the set , and/or the length of the set.  For the record, the setlist was generally:

  • Jambi
  • Stinkfist
  • 46&2
  • Schism
  • Lost Keys
  • Rosetta Stoned
  • Flood
  • Aenema
  • Lateralus
  • Vicarious

The first few shows were missing Aenema.

The much speculated cover was never played, apparently due to a change of heart by one of the band members.  Some have suggested that Passage to Bangkok (Rush) was played as an intro to Rosetta Stoned a couple of times.  Others speculated that On The Run (Pink Floyd) was played – though both of these were denied by Junior.

Highlights

There were several highlights of the tour, many courtesy of Kanaduh from TDN, who was lucky enough to see all dates except the Epicenter Festival:

  • At the Dallas show, Adam’s guitar stopped working during Vicarious.  Maynard decided to “vocalise” the guitar part.
  • Also in Dallas, Justin donned a gigantic cowboy hat for part of the set!
  • Asteroids was played on the Alex Grey backdrop during Rosetta Stoned on several of the later gigs.
  • Maynard occasionally changed the 46&2 lyrics to be “46 and 2 equals 48″
  • During the Toronto set, Maynard left only to come back with a bowl of french fries, which he continued to eat during the show, and offered to the other band members.  The lyrics of Lateralus may have been altered to “embrace the french fries”
  • Some Bill Hicks audio/visual was used during Lost Keys on the Atlanta show (and possibly others)
  • Maynard was on crutches for the last show in Pomona. Presumably he hurt himself picking grapes in the week off.

It certainly sounds like it was a fun tour for the band.  Adams Facebook page also has plenty of cool back stage photos.

April Newsletter

Blair posted the April Newsletter today, which was pretty short and confirms four tour dates – the three festivals and Salt Lake City.  He mentions that he will be posting other info on Toolarmy for a change.  So far only one post I can find, which suggests he knows the dates for the summer tour, and that there are no LA dates at this stage.  LA fans need not freak out as he mentioned a possible “SoCal venue (a bit off the beaten track)”.

Given that he appears to know the dates now, I’d expect a tour date release to be imminent.

Also to be found on Toolarmy recently are plenty of posts from Jr, one of the Tool Stage Crew.  Nothing revealing as far as dates or releases go, but quite interesting for those curious about how the Tool tour machine works.

Tool playing Dallas?

Magnus emailed me another “radio station” confirmation today, this time for a Tool gig in Dallas, TX on the 24th 25th of July.  He also mentions that Tool are playing a smaller venue (6k) this time around, rather than the usual large venue (15-18k).  He didn’t mention the venue name, so hopefully this means something to those Texans out there.  Update: It’ll be at Nokia Theatre apparently.

Official confirmation to come soon I’d imagine.

Update: Apparently this show may actually be the 25th of July.  Once the date is officially confirmed expect another Fourtheye post!

Tool Atlanta show rumoured

Badkittygothgirl from Toolarmy mentioned in a post today:

I’ve been told by a reliable source (local radio dj) that Tool will be playing Atlanta, but she did not have the specific dates yet. I’ll post more info once I receive specifics.

Don’t book your plane tickets just yet, but I’d expect this will probably happen.

Now that more dates (as opposed to festivals) are trickling in, I’d predict a full announcement from Blair sometime in the next week.  Of course I’ll continue posting any other news I get on Fourtheye as soon as I see it!
