Tool to play All Good Festival?

This is nothing more than speculation based on Blair‘s cryptic emails, but is worth posting anyway:

Sounds kinda crazy I know, but collectivejudas29 put together a good analysis of Blair’s spirit session from the February newsletter that led him to conclude Tool may be playing a show in July. It seems right to me, and more specifically it seems like they might be playing a festival. If it’s in July, that means it’s not Bonnaroo and not Lollapalooza. But there is another festival I’ve been hearing more and more about, and maybe it’s where Tool is heading — the All Good Festival.

Two parts of Blair’s message led me to this conclusion. The first is his footnote that seems to have no purpose. “* Y and J in place of I were also tried, as was V and W in place of U.” It has no place at all in figuring out what SILITNIUQ means. (SILITNIUQ is just QUINTILIS backwards, referring to July.) So what does that footnote mean? I think the letters are also backwards in the footnote, so not V and W (VW), but W and V (WV = West Virginia). Also he says at the end “if someone is able to fathom a meaning from the experiment, … please shout it out from the top of a mountain”. The All Good Festival is being held on Marvin’s Mountaintop in West Virginia.

I probably wouldn’t book your flights/tickets just yet though.  Thanks to ogt from Toolarmy.

Melvins Melbourne Tickets on sale Tomorrow!

Tickets to the Melvins gig at the Ding Dong Lounge go on sale at Moshtix Friday morning 9:00am EST.  It is a small venue and I’d expect tickets to probably sell out, so if you’re planning on going, don’t delay!

According to the Ding Dong Lounge they will be performing Houdini in it’s entirety and Trevor Dunn from Fantomas will be on Bass.  That makes me ever more jealous of those that can go….

No word on the Sydney show at this stage except that it will be on the 22nd of January.

The Melvins Australia/NZ Tour Dates

The Melvins will be playing a few shows in Australia and New Zealand in January 2009 as described below:

Word on the street is that Melvins will be playing some shows in Australia in January ’09 while Fantomas is down under doing the Big Day Out 2009 festival dates. Be sure to check Ipecac’s calendar for up to date info on Fantomas shows. These Melvins dates will most likely be the lineup of Buzz, Dale, & Trevor Dunn on bass. The tentative dates so far:

  • January, 15 2009 – Aukland, New Zealand – TBA
  • January, 22 2009 – Sydney, Australia – TBA
  • January, 27 2009 – Melbourne, Australia – Ding Dong Lounge

Too bad the Melbourne show is on a weeknight otherwise I would have considered going over.  From what I understand this isn’t a proper tour and I look forward to a The Melvins/Big Business tour later in 2009…

Meshuggah North America Tour with Cynic

Tool touring mates Meshuggah have announced they’ll be touring North America in early 2009, with the following dates announced already:

Feb. 01 – House of Blues – Anaheim, CA
Feb. 02 – House of Blues – San Diego, CA
Feb. 06 – El Corazon – Seattle, WA
Feb. 07 – Hawthorne Theatre – Portland, OR
Feb. 08 – Commodore Ballroom – Vancouver, BC
Feb. 15 – House of Blues – Chicago, IL
Feb. 17 – The Phoenix – Toronto, ONT
Feb. 20 – Recher Theatre – Towson, MD

No doubt there are more to come.  Supporting them will be the recently re-united Cynic.

Tool Touring 2009?

According to a recent post on Toolshed:

Though all has been quiet on the Tool front for some time, a promoter wrote in today to say he’s heard rumblings of possible Tool shows in 2009. We’ll keep an eye on this and keep you all posted.

Personally, I could maybe see a late 2009 tour, but that would be about it.  Presuming they maybe hit the recording studio soon, or early next year, then i could see a tour after a late 2009 release of an album.

Thanks to Scott, Tevin & Ganjalf for the tip.

Tricky Tours Australia

Tool tour mate and Parabola star Tricky is coming down to Australia to do his Trip-hoppy type stuff, and as well as playing the Splendour in the Grass festival (which is sold out), he’ll be playing several dates in the Eastern Capitals. That’s right, as usual Adelaide and Perth miss out, and I’m not sure that NZ get any love either.

Here’s the dates:

JULY
30 – The Metro, Sydney
31 – Prince of Wales, Melbourne

AUGUST
2 – Splendour in the Grass Festival, Byron Bay
3 – The Arena, Brisbane

Slightly more info can be found at Undercover.

Danny injures himelf (again)

Blair posted on Toolband/Army today an article talking about Danny‘s recent injury. Apparently he was attacked by a Sea Urchin or Scorpion Fish. Lucky it wasn’t a Sting Ray I guess…

Anyway, he elaborates to say that he’s had two surgeries on the hand, and that there probably won’t be any Tool or Volto! shows for a little while.

Melvins/Big Business Tour

The Melvins are on the road again later this year following the release of their new album Nude With Boots. As well as the two shows will Jello Biafra mentioned recently, the guys start an extensive tour of the US with Big Business, beginning on the 16th of July.

It’s a long list, and apparently not complete, so rather than typing it all out here, I’ll just give you a link to the Calendar page in Ipecac. According to the post I read, The Melvins will also be hitting Europe later this year. Hopefully Australia is also on the agenda this time.

Two Tool Projects

Blair from Toolband/Army took some time today to “clarify” an email he received questioning the April Newsletter – the one about the business meeting. Here’s his response:

That mentioned in the April (1) newsletter had NOTHING to do with the
all-Tool issue of “Revolver” Magazine, although at this time I am still
not able to disclose any further information about any decision made by
the band as to whether it’s a go or not. It’s my belief, however, that
if it is a go, this will most likely be leaked on the Net before I get
a chance to post it. Perhaps it already has been (I’m not really sure).
Also, with regards to my last ToolArmy exclusive, that involves an
entirely different project that is most definitely a go (Again, please
be patient).

The last ToolArmy exclusive, was Camella’s picture of the sunset, and the “good things are coming” line.

For me, this post would suggest that there is perhaps a good reason to expect some more tour dates. I can’t imagine some kind of recording would leak online before they would post news of it, and in the past tour dates have been leaked before they are officially confirmed.

The second project I’d speculate is some kind of change or update to Toolarmy, hence the Toolarmy exclusive. Maybe work is afoot to update the site. I guess we’ll find out eventually.

What do you guys reckon is going on?
