MTV spoke with Billy Howerdel recently regarding the status of A Perfect Circle, and he also confirms that APC will not be back in the near future. Though he and Maynard are both unwilling to say it’s over:
“[Maynard and I have] talked about it lightly. A few months ago, it was like, ‘If we did A Perfect Circle again, I’d want to do this or that.’ It was a benign conversation. I think we both entertain the fact that it could happen again, but for right now we don’t have any plans to do it again. We’re focusing on what we’re doing now. A Perfect Circle is done for now.”
It was good while it lasted I suppose, though as much as I like APC, I find it hard to get upset about their demise.

Judith is one of my favourite songs ever and I really enjoyed their last tour in Brissie. It was one of the best I;ve seen.

Don’t get me wrong, I love APC, but when Maynard said it was over, it was more ‘Meh’ rather than tears of anguish. eMotive probably had a fair bit to do with that…..
APC was great, sure eMOTIVE wasn’t the best but Mer De Noms and Thirteenth Step are pure gold
I liked APC, but I think Lateralus suffered because of APC.
10k days had Maynard involved more, and I think it shows.
I really hate this news, personally.
In fact APC is what reshaped my love for T00L once more, and brought me back in for Lateralus (which was THE Tool album in my view; blows 10,000 Days out of the water). So this is really upsetting.
Fortunately we do have Mer De Noms (the golden APC work) and the well-done Thirteenth Step CD. Plus seeing them 3 times overall was amazing. But the fact that there’s no new record to look forward too really bums me out…

this would have been one of the saddest days of my life if maynard hadnt already confirmed it a few weeks ago. i miss apc
I say good riddance- it distracted him long enough- and aside from a handful of songs I’d rather he had concentrated fully on Tool instead of appealing to wusses 😉
there are some good songs- but most of them instrumentally- SNOOZE FEST
APC is my favourite band, and are responisble for getting me into Tool, so this is devestating to me.

I have mixed feelings about this one. APC were always tool with highlights and high heels for me,
and while i did enjoy the three cd’s, in fact loved the first two very much, the direction they went with eMotive put me off. I listened to APC to hear MJK, and on eMotive he was less and less in the front vocally. I dont enjoy Billy’s singing. And i read this as a new direction, MJK almost phasing himself out of it.
Tool lives on, so no need for tears.

come now, lets be adult about this. They were good, but a bit of a motley crew, while tool is a unit, a family, and you can feel it in the music they create.
A Perfect Circle was an entirely different band than T00L. MJK and Billy stated it many times. It’s the reason Maynard was always coming up with illustrations to denote differences; the first that comes to mind is his “T00L is a left brain function, with APC being more of a softer, right brain function.” So there’s no way to really compare them to T00L — they just happen to have the same vocalist. So what?
I loved APC! They were my fav band! Personally I liked them more than Tool, and I hate to see them go. I’m gonna miss them like crazy!! Iono why everyone didn’t like eMOTIVE, that one was my favorite album. Oh well, I guess I’m weird.

This really sucks. Tool and APC were my yin and yang. And while Tool is my favorite band, im sticking up for APC here, as Mer de Noms is the most beautiful album i’ve ever heard. The thought that I will never be able to see them live really blows, and I have my fingers crossed that they aren’t finished yet…
i’m also torn on this news, for awhile when MDN came out i was totally infatuated with APC and i love that album so much. i was slightly dissapointed with 13th step, and eMotive totally lost me apart from Passive. TOOL on the other hand completely lost with me Lateralus *ducks* but have won m eback over completely with their second best album 10000 Days. i prefer TOOL overall to APC and honestly i’m not eager to see what Billy’s new project is, but APC has its place. i never got to see them perform but did the record signing,… Read more »
