Bruised_Kiwi in Toolnavy posts this interesting interview with Maynard. Here’s one of the highlights:
JR: A lot of the longer songs on your records take place near the end of the album but you chose to put a 17 minute monster (“Wings for Marie” and its counterpart “10,000 Days”) near the beginning of the record and surprisingly it doesn’t wreck the flow of the album at all.
MJK: Originally it was going to close out the record because of its length but we didn’t think it gave the record a really cohesive flow. On this album more than others, we tried to construct it as if it were one long composition. (pause) Yeah, the order of the songs was way different a month ago.
Those of you still a little sore after recent A Perfect Circle news, probably won’t enjoy this interview!
hopefully end of apc = new tool in 3 years.
Nah, probably what it means is we’ll get Puscifer instead. Personally I’d rather APC.
I do have the feeling we’ll see APC again. Of course there’s no guarantees, but right now MJK is back in the T00L whirlwind and Billy is committed to his personal material, a new project, for the time being. So who knows? We could see them take another “break” from their “first child” and produce some more material. I guess time will tell. I have to admit though the MJK political-rant is getting a bit old. I mean, there’s nothing wrong with him speaking up about what he’s passionate about, and for the sake of those who’re interested in others… Read more »
I would really like to know the akternate track orders they were considering, especially as they seemed to decide so late in the process.
that freaking tool navy is shit it wont let me resgister at all though i have beofre and then it won’t let me contact the admins can somone give me a link to where i can read that interview please that would be nice
Got an email you wouldn’t mind posting here? I’ll email it to you…
What the heck…I doubt anybody would mind. Credit to Toolarmy, obviously… =) —————– Maynard James Keenan: The man with 10,000 faces by Jeffrey Rawwin 4/29/06 For all his critical acclaim, Tool’s Maynard James Keenan is perhaps the only front man in history who has been able to maintain a high level of mystery. It’s an impressive feat, given that he’s the lead singer of two wildly popular rock bands (he served as front man for Billy Howerdel’s project A Perfect Circle) and has been pursuing a career as an actor in his downtime. Five years after the multi-platinum selling “Lateralus”,… Read more »
Not just the political portions.. that entire interview seems old. I’ve heard almost everything that he said in that interview before, which yeah, i guess isn’t his fault, but rather the journalist’s. Tool not liking the idea of him being in APC.. The demise of different bands that started around the time that Tool did.. What he said about Fred Durst and people who Tool has inspired that they depricate.. Screaming warnings.. I’ve heard this all before in MANY other interviews. I tell ya, if I were to interview anyone in Tool, ESPECIALLY Maynard, it would be something worth reading,… Read more »
thanks for posting the interview
maynard is kool 🙂
im sry, but idk…
nearly that entire interview seems like bs to me… lol. mjk usually isnt that straight-forward and [excited!]. but idk. i could be wrong. quit funny if its real id say 😉
As much as I cring to say this, I really don’t mind if APC is done with (at least with Maynard that is). I really love their music, but I really wish to hear more of Puscifer and would like at least one more Tool album. If this is the route that must be choosen to accomplish this, I don’t mind.
