I’m pretty sure the comment was made by Danny off-camera (presuming the source is to be believed). Anyway, there’s no point doubting the BDO thing, if Tool aren’t playing on the Big Day Out then I’ll eat my signed Lateralus Vinyl.
Heh. Yeah. I think it was just more my wishful thinking and desperation, as I missed out on tickets for the sydney/melb gigs, that they WOULDN’T be playing the BDO and instead WOULD be playing further “real” gigs.
I’m possibly one of the most disappointed Tool fans in Aus at the moment :(.

I demand video if in fact Tool do not play BDO, hellboy.
Hrrrrm, personally, I think the greater worry is that they do indeed play BDO. Consider it. Lame atmosphere, compromised stage show, compromised environment…diluted Tool experience on the whole – hence I’m so very disappointed by this “tour”, if you can even call it that.

Yeah I’m really disappointed too… My favourite band, who only put out albums every 5 years or so, are finally coming back to our country, which just happens to be on the other side of the world to their home in L.A., to headline at Australia’s biggest music festival, as well as a few individual shows, whcih I have tickets to, during our summer when most people are on holidays at the weather is good, and the Sydney venues just happen to be 15mins bus ride and 20mins train ride from my house, and I’m going to all their shows… Read more »
…I am assuming that was some form of sarcasm there.
I didn’t get tickets. I got shafted at the box office, on the phone and online. All three methods to secure tickets from 9AM onwards failed for me. I lucked out. Incidentally, to the best of my knowledge, there are not a “few” individual side shows. There are two. Sydney. Melbourne. That is all.
I appreciate your gentle sarcastic attempt, I suppose. I’ll take my gripe with the whole shamozzle elsewhere. Sorry for bringing it up.
Zebra… There will be another tour. I know it’s no consolation, I don’t know what I’d do if I missed out. But, think of it as all the people who missed out on that tiny club tour in the US, thousands… they’ll be back. They’re not stupid enough to just ignore the demand, and they love Australia. But make sure you’re lining up from atleast midnight when they do come.
And… there are places to get tickets at cost, you’ve just got to keep trying (and feel really lucky).

If you were at a Ticketmaster outlet and on the phone and on the net then I sympathise – I’m sorry that you missed out! As I have said previously, why there wasn’t a ticket limit astounds me… And yes, you picked up on my ‘slight’ use of sarcasm – well done. Stevie Wonder could’ve seen that one though… As for tickets, given your troubles if I had a spare ticket I’d contact you straight away – I did have a spare but Charred Remains has taken it already… Keep positive mate, I think Tool might add a sideshow in… Read more »
Yup. The good news is, I am in Brisbane. I’d love to see them come up here – although, I don’t like QLD’ers chances, on the whole.
It’s interestng. I was reading back through years of forum archives across the net, and for some odd reason rumours of Tool playing a BDO pop up with perfect pattern, every single year. It seems to be one of the most common rumours online, believe it or not.
The thing that make these rumours so compelling are: a. Tool changing promoters to the same ones as the BDO b. The Big Day Out promoters almost never promote bands other than those appearing on Big Day Outs c. The tour dates coincide with the normal dates for BDO side shows. d. Danny (allegedly) has confirmed the dates. Now there’s no hard evidence there, but it’s pretty damn circumstantial…. Anyway, I think Tool on the Big Day Out will be a pretty good event. I really don’t think the atmosphere will be that different, nor will the setlist be significantly… Read more »
…and not a single confirmation or suggestion that they are playing the NZ BDO. Interesting stuff, indeed.
