Tool News and Reviews

The Toolband.com news seems to be up and running again, this time with a post from Blair telling people that he’s anticipating a great show at the Staples Center in LA tonight.  Does this mean it’ll be great as in the first time they play 10,000 Days?  Who knows.  If you are going to the gig, let us all know what happens.

J. Pirro has sent me a link to his excellent review of a Tool show in Oakland.  It’s quite long, so here’s a quick excerpt for you:

The next moment of awe for me was during “Sober”, when the band faded to all but a whisper as Maynard sung the third and final verse. His words were sung across the stadium by what had to be the entirety of the audience, and it was absolutely ethereal to hear that many voices in unison speaking such dark words. “Lateralis”, however, was the number that brought the arena to its feet in amazement, for not only had the three large light structures above the band (which first appeared in “Right In Two”) rotated to re-portray themselves as giant spinning “fans” of light, but at the first blast of the drums, the arena was lit with a giant wall of lights — three towers of eight stalks of dazzling lights each — as well as a swarm of multihued lasers that swept across the arena like a thousand splintering searchlights.

Good read – it got me very excited about the upcoming shows here in Australia… One thing I really like at the moment (and I’d imagine this will continue) about Tool playing live is the setlists. I know people complain about how they don’t switch it around much but out of the all the songs listed in the review above I love every single song! Sometimes when you see a band live you say “yeah that song was alright, but I would have preferred ____” etc. Ohter than Wings/10,000 Days (hope they start playing it at the Staples Centre today)… Read more »

By the way, I’m now anticipating some negative replies saying things like “No way man – Tool should play Eulogy, The Grudge, Prison Sex, H., Third Eye, Ticks & Leeches, Jerk Off” and so on…

Yes they ahve many good songs but the ones they are currently performing are quite good!

*wishes for 10,000 Days to be added to setlist before January…*

I just wish they would retire Sober forever. Horrible live song. Maybe I’m just tired of listening to it after the millionth time.

I agree with both of your posts above 🙂

If I had trade/swap one song in their current setlist I would probably swap Sober for something like H.

I’d also love to see something more aggressive like Part of Me or Hooker With A Penis – on the Aenima tours Tool use to sometimes open with HWAP and I reckon that would’ve been awesome!

Still hoping 10,000 Days gets added…
