Tool Live Production Details

Kassel on Toolarmy has posted a link to an article which gives us some more insight into Tool‘s video and lighting show, as well as some of the logistics behind it:

It’s hard to explain the depth of what goes into the production at a Tool concert to somebody who is not in our industry. Much like their music, the production is intelligent and progressive—the interplay of video and lighting is the key aspect of the entire performance. And it has been since mid-‘90s, when Haggerty created a device, later known the NEV System, for triggering content long before media servers, as we know them today, existed.

“Tool has never allowed the use of followspots or live cameras. All of the video is playback. It’s all looped clips that aren’t tracked to a song like a music video. The band has never used any sort of timecode. They’ve always made sure the video can change on-the-fly, in a way that can be improvised. That’s a big important part of the production,” says Haggerty. “The show is never the same twice.”

In other news, John Ziegler from Volto! and his band Amalgatron will be performing at the La Ve Lee Club in Studio City on the 9th of November.

Finally, for those of you considering purchasing the Platinum Lateralus, there’s still some available in the Toolarmy Bazaar

Unique or not unique every time, the visuals still add something to the spectacle.
Speaking of which, I’ve got side view seats – Gold section, I think about mid way back into Gold.. you guys reckon I’ll still be able to see the visuals and more importantly Danny?

In other news, tool’s tour page had listed more side shows in brisbane, adelaide and perth, but have now taken them down. Maybe waiting on the official release from the promoters. I fuckin’ hope so.

Cuts down on the rape too I guess.

But being idiotic/drunk/stoned/whacked sounds like a lot of fun.

I can tell by the BDO site that it’s a total stoner fest…

Nothing like sniffer dogs nuzzling your nuts,
welcome to the sydney bdo.
At least this year there’ll be less knobs
wrapped in the flag, and can’t wait to let fly
with something at the first idiot, chick or guy,
on someone’s shoulder. How’s the fourth eye beach balls coming along hellboy? We need something to
keep us occupied when the Streets are on.

I remember the wave of massive, sweatie, dreadlocked, piss soaked monster Slipknot fans that smashed their way through the John Butler Trio pit in Sydney in 05′, just to be on the barrier. One girl was instructed to ‘get off the barrier or be thrown over’. She refused, and the fat bastard didn’t hesitate to hurl her out of the way. That said, the Slipknot mosh turned out to be fairly tame. All the fans were too unhealthy and didn’t have the stamina to jump around!

I hope it doesn’t happen again at Syd for TooL. That would shit me.

Slipknot sucks so much ass! They were put together by a record fucking company. Oh well, that’s all I got. Stone Sour sucks too. Fuck. And they are tame, but fans think they’re hardcore. Fuck I hate Slipknot. And Stone Sour.

I’d go and see Evanescence, because, well, it’s a guilty pleasure, but Stone Sour is opening. And Fuck I hate Stone Sour.

Blah blah blah the end.
