Well, at long last the new theme is up. Feel free to reset your cache if you’re not seeing anything.
I welcome any feedback on the theme. I’m especially interested in performance on various speed internet links, and also in different browsers. I’ve only tested on Firefox 2.0 and IE7 so let me know if you see any unusual items.
Things to note:
- All items are now in the right sidebar.
- Items are now collapsible, and should remember your selections via a cookie.
- The new logo be Jonas is now in place. I chose this logo over the winning entry because I felt it was original, and has a style that I felt matched the artistic direction (if you could call it that) of the site. If and when Fourtheye Merch does come to fruition, he will be the recipient of a freebie.

Edit: I think there is a speed issue related to a Javascript bug. Will be looking into it shortly.
Edit2: Looks like the problem is to do with the AJAX Categories and Archives sections. Have turned them off for now, and will put them back in once I’ve sorted it.
Good stuff Hellboy – the chosen logo is what I actually voted for so well done in that regard. Good choice. Yeah the speed is down a little but that should be fine etc. I’d like to see a little less grey colour but that’s just me. Well done mate!
I’m thinking about changing the grey. Leave it with me….
the buttons on the right “comments” is a little light. and its hard to find out how to reply to the post >for a second anyways. otherwise looks quite nicely. the logo is good too, one of my favourites. i shall further search
I like the grey. It’s my favorite ‘color’.
Looks great, Hellboy. Very nicely done. Personally I’d have gone with grey too. Seems a nice neutral color, not too dark, not too bright. Logo looks great. (would be fantastic on a t-shirt, btw). Can’t find anything to complain about yet. Give me time.
The only problem I have with it is that the design behind the text makes text VERY hard to read. I like the general feel of it, though.
The logo looks like it was crapily cut and pasted… choppy white around the edges…
Didn’t Jonas make a better one, of that same logo, something cleaner? I think I remember that?
I don’t like the gray and think the logo would stand out nicely juxtaposed with a background of a better color… rather than… ‘this…’
Other than the top of the page, it looks great though, I can read everything fine and speed is not an issue. Change is good!
overall i like it…i always had issues with the old site not staying neat and tidy and the boxes contain it all nicely now. i like the grey though woul dhav epossibly chosen just a tad lighter shade.
i also took ages to figure out how to leave a comment.
the only issue i’m having is this

It sure is cut and pasted. If you can think of a better way to get it into a jpg file with a gradient in the background then I’d love to hear it.

Excellent work, haven’t noticed a speed thing, but I wasn’t really paying attention. I don’t mind the grey, but the top just seems a little… empty. If I were to suggest something, it would be make the “Fourth Eye” text look more interesting. Maybe add the colourful flame one in and get the text to accompany it. Or even better, ask Jonas…
But the rest is much better, particularly like the ability to minimise sections on the sides… and only a month and a bit behind schedule 🙂

Save it as a GIF with a transparent background, or save it as a PNG. PNG’s look beter then GIF’s but they are not as widely supported.

its still doing it; i guess i need the upgrade to IE7 perhaps

Yes, I tried it in IE6, and the side-bar was down the bottom. Also the first six responses created a separate box for them, and disappeared and reappeared as I scrolled down. So yeah, IE6 is fucked.

Heya everyone. Yeah, i’m running IEv6 as well, and run into a few problems with the site. Nothing too drastic, just a massive ‘hole’ in the header of the ‘comments’ pages, and occasional issues with the toolbars appearing at the bottom of the page rather than beside the news. Otherwise, i think it looks great! I’m bummed that Merks, the ‘winner’ of the user poll, won’t be getting rewarded for his hard work. I was thinking, if one followed some link to a post on here, s/he might not even know it is a Tool site without reading quite a bit. It doesn’t really say that it is anywhere. Not a big deal, but if you’d like more readers it might help.

Isn’t Fourtheye pretty famous as a Tool fansite though? I’ve never even thought of what you said, but I guess you’re right. I think most people get sent here by another Tool site though.
