bms46and2 posted on Toolnavy today a link to an interview with Maynard on Asahi.com. It’s a pretty short one, and really doesn’t cover much we haven’t already heard before, but I’m sure some of you completists out there will want to read anyway. Here’s an excerpt:
Maynard James Keenan, singer and lyricist with the U.S. heavy rock band Tool, has got a crush on Japan. “It’s my favorite place on Earth,” he gushed on the phone from Switzerland in the middle of a European tour, promoting Tool’s most recent album, “10,000 Days.” After seven trips to Japan, the thing that appeals most to him is the courtesy.
“That’s what I like–the courtesy, everybody knowing what they’re supposed to do and happy to do it,” he said.
I asked Keenan if his job as a singer in a heavy rock band is to be a “sanctioned wild man.” Isn’t he supposed to disapprove of such nerdy behavior and, instead, to take drugs, sleep with groupies and smash up hotel rooms?
“You know, I’m 42 and I haven’t smashed up one hotel room,” he said with a touch of irony, admitting that this is one of the common expectations of someone in his position.
mmmm Asahi
mmmm groupies

*** Tool will perform for the entire show. There will be no support act. ***
The tickets say 8pm so be aware. Not sure about the Melbourne sideshow but just keep it in mind. I just hope no one misses any of the gig because they got there late thinking the support act comes on at 8pm etc.
Thanks Matt. I’m planning on being there at 8pm or a bit before. Regardless of their being no support act, if Tool come on before 8:30 I’ll be surprised. Most likely starting time will be closer to 9 I reckon.
What are the lines like at the Sydney Entertainment Centre. I don’t remember any wait getting in in the show there in 2001?
If you have a reserved seat you have nothing to worry about. At the SEC they scan the barcode on your ticket at one of the many different ‘gates’ (A, B, C, D, E, F etc. See your ticket for deatils) and then at your particular ‘door’ (1, 2, 3, … ,15 etc.) an usher will probably check your ticket & point out where you are seated etc. Those with GA floor tickets will obviously have to line up and I would expect that there will be many people getting there very early in the day en route to getting… Read more »
The only reason I can think of for a delay is if they’re doing a body search or something. Last time in Sydney I don’t remember searches, but in Adelaide in ’02 there was a pat down from memory.
He hasn’t smashed up hotel rooms, that only leaves sleeping with groupies and taking drugs. Lucky bastard.
They’re usually pretty casual at the SEC, however the BDO security is over the top.
“10,000 Lives”? Christ. Am I missing some humor or did someone seriously not do their homework?
Ah. I see. Foreign publication. Translation error maybe?
pretty vanilla article but thanks for the shout out
