New Poll: Who could replace Danny?

All the talk seems to be about Danny’s injury this week, so I’ve decided that this weeks poll will ask who could replace Danny?

Oh, what shame! A replacement? Really? Why even bring up such an ominous idea? Hmpf. Personally, I don’t think any member could be replaced at this point. Tool is complete. And if one member really was unable to go on, I would prefer them to just be no more.

So get well DC 😛

It’s just a torn bicep btw. It isn’t as though his arm has been amputated :PP

Though I do admit, it sounds sometimes as though Tomas Haake has about 20 arms, :D. So maybe if Danny ever does need another, he can just have one of his 😉

Where’s the NO-ONE option!!??

Completely agree – it’s a perfectly balanced machine – I can’t see them continuing if Danny were unable to play. Besides it’s his sound that sets Tool apart from the rest.

Replace as in permanently? No one. Period. Replace TEMPORARILY? That’s another matter. My vote would have to go to Josh Freese. The man is amazing. Though honestly I’ve never listened to a lot of Mastodon, Sepultura, Slayer, Rush, or Meshuggah (but am a rabid Primus fan :-D). But seriously. Permanently? No one. You couldn’t replace anyone in Tool’s lineup as is. Personally I wouldn’t be able to live with it. Sure, it’s happened before, but that was a different time and a different Tool. Thought processes were no where near the same way they are now, and changing things up… Read more »

That band-whore Josh Freese has been in every other band out there at some stage, so I guess he would be good. Great fun to watch live. He’s a great drummer and would add a touch more sluttyness to the Tool camp!

I think Josh freese would have both the dexterity and knowledge of poly-rhythms to pull the tool songs off. Too bad if it come down to a replacement Freese wont be able to make a commitment because of the new NIN tour thats about to start.

Jon Theodore, his work with Volta is pretty amazing. Does anybody know what he’s doing now that he’s quit?

Shit, as far as poly-rhythms go, Brann Dailor comes close to DC now 😉

And as long as I’ve calmed down and excepted this word ‘TEMPORARY’, if it had to be, I would love to see Dave Grohl on stage again behind the drums playing Tool 🙂

But I voted for Neil either way 😀
A solo god, nice option.

It would have to be known whether or not Danny’s percussion parts to every TOOL song that could be on a setlist, is written-out in score. I would guess that maybe Danny (if not the whole band) has done this. In the case that the music does exist in sheet form, I would expect Neal Peart to come closest to technical skill, being able to actually play Danny’s parts. Then there is the problem of the Synesthesia Mandala complexities / programming. Personally, I would like to hear Dave Grohl’s interpretation of what alternate percussion tracks to the current TOOL repertoire… Read more »

josh freese could not replace danny. as a drummer myself i am positive that he couldnt. dont get me wrong freese is incredible, he’s known as the bruce lee of drumming and that in itself is why he couldnt play for tool. hes too straight forward and not that subtle, danny’s playing has soo much too it that people who dont drum wouldnt understand, his playing is like no other. i reckon the only person who could do it would be neil peart, tomas haake maybe or terry bozzio. or maybe someone like dennis chamber hahaha, imagine seeing him behind… Read more »

i think tim alexander. hes amazing in primus and has good rhythm. he certainly has a kit worthy of Tool too but that doesnt matter. he has also worked with Maynard. I DONT think josh freese would be a good replacement. personally i dont like him. dont get me wrong hes a good drummer, but his style is too different. I think just because he was in APC would be a bad reason to choose him.

I agree with cognizant: There should be a “No One” Option, or possibly a “God Himself?” Option…
