Blair released the December Newsletter on Toolband today, and surprisingly it’s somewhat on topic. For those who can’t be bothered reading it:
- Nothing happening on the Tool front at the moment, but song writing will probably commence once the holiday season is over (with presumably Maynard joining them after the Puscifer shows). Also, no decision has been made as to whether or not they might tour in 2009. Personally, I couldn’t see a tour happening until after an album release.
- The Tool websites (including Danny‘s) will most likely get an overhaul in 09. Personally, I’ve speculated that a Toolarmy overhaul could be the “big thing” mentioned.
- At least one member of Tool will be on the new Isis record, which is being recorded by Joe Baressi.
Also up on Toolband is a pic of Adam and Danny hanging with Mike Patton at a basketball game. More photo’s can be found on Toolarmy for members.
FFS. They’ve had this build up of suspense ever since April ’08; if the ‘big thing’ turns out to be a website overhaul,  I’m not gonna be amused!
I’d love to see them release a live album in ’09, with like alternate versions of their songs, and maybe some left over material from 10K days or somthing.
Live album = all the tool fans are happy, more people want to see tool live, Tool make a bit of money (well deserved), and no one commits suicide out of boredom waiting for the next album.
Personally, I could do just fine without a live album. I just want more TOOL music and new TOOL music at that!
Re: the photo of Adam, Danny and Mike – did Adam and Mike grow a foot over Xmas??
😉
My thoughts are that the “Big Thing” is likely one of these 3 things: live CD/DVD – It hasn’t been ruled out by Blair, and obviously they have everything they need to put it together. And according to Toolband, Adam has been working on something. New Album – Obviously, that something Adam is working on could be riffs for a new album. Though it seems like Bair would have indicated that the “big thing” is the talk about a new album he mentioned in his recent Newsletter: he would have no reason not to connect the “big thing” with a… Read more »
I think unclejackson is correct… Blair and the band have both already discussed their desire to write and record a new album, so as obvious as that would seem I don’t think its the announcement they were teasing, and its so far off too.Â
My money would be on a live DVD, but I didn’t know the band filmed their concerts?
Personally I think the big thing will be something new, and my original conclusion was that it was most likely a new video that Adam was working on. I still think it’s likely the big thing is this – presumably for The Pot.
A new video doesn’t seem very “Big” in the scheme of recent Tool activity. Unfortunately, only a certain segment of the fan base anticipates new Tool videos. Though, if those videos were associated with live material – that would be “Big”. That would also justify Blair’s call for “patience”, as he has been hounded for quite some time about the release of a live dvd/cd. Let’s not forget: in various interviews, Tool band members have stated that they have the material for such a live project… I don’t know if the “Big Thing” is a live dvd/cd, a mini tour,… Read more »
