There has been much speculation in the past few weeks, part of it from me about Tool playing the Big Day Out here in Australia and New Zealand in 2011. Blair has made several hints towards and Australian tour in recent newsletters, and just now the Big Day Out Facebook page has just released the following clue:
One of the Big Day Out 2011 headline acts live in Los Angeles, California, USA. The other headliner doesn’t. Both are bands, neither are solo performers.
Sound like anyone we know? LA is a big place I suppose, so it could be any number of acts, but there is plenty of things pointing to Tool being Down Under this summer. I guess there’s also an outside chance it’s A Perfect Circle…
Tool last visited Australia & NZ as part of the Big Day Out tour in 2007, and at the time promised they’d be back later that year. Danny injured himself and the tour never happened, so perhaps this some kind of payback for us…
Blake Guy
“I reckon Tool or Weezer, I hope it’s the latter.”
lol.

Weezer aren’t big enough down here in Oz to be the headline act anyway
Plus, they’re rumoured to be one of the next Soundwave announcements… or so I’ve read

Nah, the Soundwave dude said Weezer definitely weren’t playing.
Read a rumour that SoundGarden was headlining..and that Korn may possibly show up..

Pretty much no chance of Korn playing as they’re touring here in November. Â Soundgarden aren’t playing from what I’m told.
You just want Tool to be there aye Matt? xD
It has to be APC. Another Tool tour wouldnt make sense right now would it?? Especially with the rumours of an APC world tour…. meh who knows

Junior just indicated on Facebook he’ll be available in January. Â I think it’s almost a given now that Tool are indeed bound in our direction…
Great news! looks like tool is heading down under! (even though I now live in London, agrhh), Isn’t it a bit strange that it looks like they will be doing this before a new album? Plus it’s really tough on fans who haven’t seen a proper tour since 2002! I know if I was still in NZ I would much rather wait for a proper tour after the new album, rather than half ass BDO show. But then again, you might get both, fingers crossed! It was really annoying when Maynard said they would be back later in the year back in 07 and then Danny got… Read more »
so excite! *begins camping outside of ticketek* i just want them to announce their own show so i can get tix..
i am happy for you Hellboy. you are in for a big treat. with or without new material, these guys are on top of their game, without a doubt. some people, like me, would argue long an hard that they never left.
i am sure your festival is all GA, but try not to get too close to the stage. you definately want the visuals to be part of your experience. i recommend 25-50 feet back so you can take it ALL in.

Did they do any side shows when the last came down under for BDO?

One in Sydney at the Entertainment Centre, and one in Melbourne at the Myer Music Bowl. Â Don’t think they did one anywhere else.

I’m happy for Hellboy, and I am happy for Hawaii fans assuming they come to Hawaii. Junior can you put in the good word for us Hawaii fans! Theres tons Of us out here, I already have a group of nine of my friends that are going to the show. Most all of them are Tool fans and two are not but they have heard me ranting and raving about the awesome shows in honolulu three and a half years ago so they are coming for the experience. COME!
Hopefully Junior can put a good word in for the Southern California area. Seems like Tool is always avoiding us…..
Just got another email from a source who’d rather not be named, saying that Tool will definitely be playing the Big Day Out. If things go as they have in previous years, we can probably expect an announcement of any sideshow before the main lineup is confirmed by the organisers.
They way things are going I half expect this to happen in the next week.
This pleases me….

if there are any side shows in Aus, which ticket outlet will most likely be selling tix?
also, do you think they will be able to get the “new and improved” stage setup at the BDO?
…and i’m hoping they play a similiar set to the recent US tour!!! even if they only open with Third Eye!!! that will cover the price of admission alone.Â

Hope the band does announce some Oceania shows soon and all the Aussies / New Zealanders get to experience the new sets for themselves… Third Eye live was just fucking unreal.
Latest BDO rumour suggests that Tool will headline, with Rammstein and Iggy & The Stooges also playing.
If this is true then the lineup will officially be better than Soundwave in my eyes.
BDO organisers said outright that Iggy & The Stooges aren’t playing, so that rumour is pretty much busted (which I reckon takes Rammstein out of contention).
Blink 182 have been confirmed from what I read. Not a huge fan personally but at least they’re watchable.
Unless yu’re going off a different statement I saw I think ya might of read it wrong. It mentioned that “the band playing an album in full isn’t the stooges”. Doesn’t rule them out of the festival, just rules em out playing an entire album as their set.

Ok, valid point.
almost embarrassed to say I know you in that never really saw you and only talk to you on the interweb and live in the same country, albeit in another state, sort of way, Hellboy

i sure as shit would rather see Blink 182 crack a few jokes on stage than yawn through Kings Of Leon or The Arcade Fire.
^ Couldn’t agree more.
To coin a phrase – “they’re ALL shite”. I’d just stay home and listen to good music.
3 & 1/2 hours until announcement…
I’m nervous!
I’m going to call Underworld as the headliner for the boiler-room . Just seems odd that Thedoctor mentioned Karl Hyde will be dialing in around tomorrow/wed….I got a confirmation of the interview yesterday on twitter but got no bites when I fished for more .
I think the leads you have put together Hellboy put Tool in firm favorite.. heres Hoping.
Rammstein would just top it off
HELLBOY, HOW’S IT FEEL TO BE RIGHT ALL THE TIME?!
