There’s some great footage on http://dannycarey.org of the Tool/Rammstein incident at the Adelaide Big Day Out in February. It’s been recorded be Breck who’s the projection director. Excellent audio and visual quality!

yes yes!
That was very cool. Thanks for pointing it out.
hell yeah!
And to think that people believe that a live DVD is out of the question. That footage looks Tool approved to me…

I don’t think a live DVD is out of the question. However that footage is approved, and isn’t of high enough quality for a DVD.
True, but the potential is there. Next tour hopefully they will get their shit together.

Not necessarily. That could have been 1080p quality video, but compressed to hell for Danny’s website.
There is no doubt they have plenty of filmed footage to make a live DVD, as I am sure there is plenty of footage of APC. There must be some reason, whether contractual or not being able to get together to do it. I really wish they would, the live DVD of Primus during the Hallucino-genetics tour is great.
I spoke to Tool’s management once and they said a ‘TOOL Live DVD is out of the question and unfortunately will never happen again. Never say never as they say, but it goes against TOOL’s approach to how a show should be viewed.’
There you go. Wishful dreaming guys and gals.
lol he sings, reaching out to embrace what fire (or schneidder?) may come

The One True Post
There is most likely archives with loads of excellent stage footage from Tool throughout the years. Some has been shown in rare youtube videos. My guess is they are saving them for their last $hoorah$.

Does anyone remember the live footage they used to have on Toolband pre-Lateralus era? Was the quality of that any good? I vaguely remember it being ok, but largely from just one camera angle.
It would be hard to miss all the camera equipment required in producing a live concert DVD.
Where exactly is the video?
news section
It’s funny you mention this because they did take all the equipment needed for a DVD with them on their 2002 tour of NZ/AUS/JAPAN. I guess they still have all this footage but it never got edited or finished. I remember seeing all the gear and thinking yes won’t be long till a DVD comes out…yeah right.
i could see mics when i saw tool in vancouver…..you can see it in this video

There’s definitely nothing hard about recording it. It is hard to hide recording on the scale of a DVD from the crowd.

at a mettallica concert there were dudes in these seats hanging in this cage setup aiming lights at the band members…maybe TOOL is doing something more brilliant then conspicuous(?spelling?)
We can only hope and wait, as always. But, it would be a damn shame if we never saw a live dvd, because that would be priceless footage for the ages of rock n roll.
haha good call…i like your attitude, your hired. how’bout you missy, yuou wanna be a mop girl? ( not really, noo.) I like your honesty, your hired. and you two havent even said a word, i like that, your hired.
i prefer not to wait…can’t wait for someone else to make up thier mind, no matter the precieved outcome and no matter what some may think and that makes it not worth the waiting which would make it oh fucking forget about it…meh…fuck it
“Nearly” every show has been recorded with exactly 1 “pro-sumer” video camera in a locked wide shot of the stage since around 2001, and some select shows prior to that. “Nearly” every show has been recorded with a multi-track digital audio recorder (Pro-Tools, etc) since around 2006, and before that on multi-track digital audio tape since around 1998 (that’s how “Salival” was done). Before 1998 they were occasionally done on a 2 track DAT or CD recorder. The last 5-6 shows in 2002 were recorded with multiple cameras. That hasn’t been done at any other time, that I recall, so… Read more »
Wow Junior that information is awesome, good to know that it was there and recorded.
Frustrating that I cannot go and buy digital copies of live gigs though! Or however they want to hand over copies – will send more money.
ALL HAIL JUNIOR!

Fuckn epic shows and setlists, would make a great DVD!!! I’m pretty sure those 5-6 shows were all ones at the end of the US tour, not Australian shows. Oh tru, I’m sure I remember hearing/reading at the time they were brining the gear with them to record…and have read it somewhere else since. Meh was a while back…could… Read more »
i could see mics when i saw tool in vancouver…..you can see it in this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=or7ZeXDo2Ts
Every show, Tool, or any band for that matter, plays their instruments with mics set to different positions. They go directly in to the sound board with the guitar and bass. They mic the different percussion sections (snares, toms, hi hats, crashes, bass drum, etc.). And of course the vocals go direct in as well. Having mics on stage does NOT mean that they are filming a show. So technically, you are right. You can see mics on stage in this show,… Read more »
rammstien VS junior
looks like rammstien likes fire
does tool have a policy of no fire just lazers…lol
how did the ‘CANADIAN’ lazers fair? …..saw them in vancouver 2010 very spectacular.
The footage in the beginning of this video is satisfactory dvd quality to me. Must have been from around 98…
This just goes to show that its out there. If I can get a whole dvd of this quality from various shows I would be happy.
