I had a busy day yesterday ingesting more beer than my body can safely hand. Fitting then that Blair releases the March 2011 Newsletter on Toolband that get the collection nuts of Fourtheye abuzz with excitement. Here’s an excerpt:
In the spirit of this newsletter about Tool memorabilia, "Merch" is going to be putting some nice stuff in the store tomorrow (consider this a head’s up). These items will include vintage tee-shirts (those now out of circulation), tour posters (maybe even a couple of signed ones), and at least one real gem that will have some fans salivating. In the meantime, keep hunting for those Tool rarities. They would sure look good next to that souvenir tour poster that you purchased at the last show.
Well all love a bit of Tool merch, and I know many of you have been hitting up Toolarmy in readiness for this sale, however as I write this tomorrow has yet to arrive and there are no goodies on the site. Perhaps tomorrow tomorrow… Looks like stuff is there – check the Collectibles section!
In other news, A Perfect Circle will be announcing on-sale details for their summer tour on the 4th of April. Presumably this will be the times that tickets go on sale and at what outlets. There doesn’t seem to be any sign of further dates, however there is plenty of speculation (and a gap in the schedule) suggesting that A Perfect Circle could be one of the acts on Lollapallooza this year.
Speaking of APC, drummer Josh Freese has released another range of unique purchase options for his latest EP My New Friends. The $75k package which included a ride in Danny’s Lamborghini was offered, and as I write this appears to have finally sold to someone! Presumably it was purchased for me as a gift for my birthday later this month – thanks in advance!
Tool merch is cool and all, but nothing would beat owning a genuine piece of Melvins history! Point your credit cards at this Ebay auction and buy King Buzzo’s old Hiwatt Cabinet. Current bidding puts it at US$405. Bargain!
well i hope the collectibles section gets more than what it has or did items already sell out? i missed checking every 15 minutes for about 9 hour today.
and who says “gem” besides a select few of the tool crew i know
signed nampa tour poster up now

The final item described, if true, definitely is the ultimate prize: “Which brings us to the “holy grail” that I mentioned earlier. No, this is something REALLY special. Are you ready? Suppose I was to tell you that there is a Tool song – recorded in a studio – that hasn’t been heard except for by a handful of people, and that virtually no one outside of the band (and a few others) is aware of its very existence? Keep in mind, this is not a cover (not the rumored “Crazy Train”), nor is it a glorified segue that never… Read more »
Wow. That’s pretty dedicated if they have an unheard 6-minute track from many years ago floating around somewhere and people aren’t even aware of it. That’s actually really cool!
I’ll keep checking Toolarmy over the next few days to see if I can acquire some cool things…
It’s Blair…. take everything he says with a grain of salt…
As of 7am MST April 3rd, there is nothing in the Collectibles section but the Danny Cary-signed Nampa, ID tour poster, a “smoke box” shirt from Aenima, and a Lateralus era workshirt.
I don’t see the hidden track item, so I guess it’s gone?

Still, it will be fun to keep checking Toolarmy over the next few days to see what they offer us etc. So far not too much… Read more »

I see 4 different shirts and the poster…

Not sure that such an item was sold, nor do I expect one to be!
“Another good one would be from Tool’s performance in Hamburg Germany on June 6, 2006 (666)”
I was at that Show and didn’t see any signed Tour Posters, although I was very early in that venue…so I guess that not everything mentioned in that newsletter is really true.
^Upon further thought, I think I’m right about this Riemann stuff regarding the real and imaginary parts in mathematics. It just makes sense given that some items are already for sale but that others, namely the unreleased song etc., simply don’t exist.
Nice try Blair but I think I’ve cracked it (his problem, not Problem 8).
How many autographed Salival copies were released a couple years ago? 30ish?
I wonder who has actually played all the options on that DISC. I also wonder why those particular Salival sets were not originally released? Did they include an extra track?

I have a copy and was wondering the same thing…I’ve never played it. I doubt it would be that though…however I’ll probably try later. It probably doesn’t exist and it’s just Blair messing around.
they were not orginally released because they just found them in a old box in a storage locker somewhere.
What about the limited edition, autographed, left-nostril, glow-in-the-dark, TooL inhalers they talked so little about?
I want one of those, for sure…
ilikeC
^Hell yeah me too
Left nostril only?!?! How cruel of them. I lost my left nostril in a freak water polo accident years ago. I think TººL are mocking me.
Does anyone know if RIAA released any platinum records to band and management after aenima went platinum? They could possibly be on those?

Was the item that people would be salivating for the Salival shirt, or can anyone confirm if copies of of the set went up briefly?
I am really surprised that the Nampa posters are still available! What are the odds that something new will go up today?
I think the Nampa posters would be gone if they all signed them. $65 just for Danny’s c’mon. just take the rest of the posters to the loft and get them signed and charge $100.
Yeah your right but I guess I panicked, plus I didn’t have that poster and you know about my ocd with collecting things.
Anybody interested in the 2007 Nampa Idaho poster (Currently 11 still avail). Not sure this would affect your decision, but here’s what I found with a quick search:
http://www.expressobeans.com/public/detail.php/71980
Keep in mind, none of the above were signed by Danny.
ive been refreshing the page most of the day, prob a waste of time but ya never know 🙂
as have I here and there
I went to the wikipedia page on Problem 8 (Riemann hypothesis) and on the bottom of the page it says
“This page was last modified on 1 April 2011 at 19:41.” Could that have been Blair modifying it to put some information on the page?
I’m confident that Blair doesn’t even know how to sign up for a Wikipedia account let alone edit an already existing article.
That isn’t Buzz’s cabinet. compare the photos at the ebay auction with the one here…

Buyer beware indeed, however I imagine he owns more than one amp.
I rekon the unreleased song is on one of the Framed Platinum RIAA silver vinyls. If I could just find out how many of each were released, I’d have the balls to open mine up and see if it were.

Are you talking about the Lateralus one that they sold on ToolArmy..? Was over 100 of them for sale on Tool Army from memory.. might have even been 250.
Also Blair is talking out his arse!
Also Blair is talking out his arse!
Yes he is – there’s no hidden track but everything else will likely become available sometime.
If someone has edited the Wikipedia page that’s funny.
on face book today APC said they will have VIP tickets on the website… any clues about this?
I really want that smokebox Aenima shirt. I have always wanted a smokebox shirt….
^He who hesitates is lost. Sieze the t-shirt!
woulda snagged a Holy Reality shirt if they still had Ls…that and the white shirt with the eyes on the back from Alex Grey’s Death are my favorite shirts…can’t find another of the latter anywhere
It’s possilbe that the ultimate hidden track is part of the unreleased Salival Box sets that were sold on Toolarmy at a later time. I’ve seen grammophone recordings that were on a clear sheet of plastic that was as thick as a piece of paper.  I could see Tool hiding a recording like then in the outer plastic case on the Salival box set. I can’t remember the exact # that were sold on Toolarmy but around 30 sounds about right. Seeing how Tool has already got some experience hiding secret songs on the vinyl grammaphone recordings I wouldn’t be surprised if they put… Read more »
I find it strange that everyone think all this stuff is going to become available in the online store and that the secret track definitely doesn’t exist ? For those of you who think the secret may actually exist… I rekon it has to be something that somebody might hang. If you look at the clue… “Now, not only was the song professionally recorded; it was actually ‘issued’ in a manufactured medium (though I’m not going to say whether this was vinyl, a CD, or cassette tape). Because of the ingenious way it was made available to the public, “Problem… Read more »

I hope you are victorious It does seem pretty similar to what I was conjecturing on the other similar thread. But then again, it’s not that far a leap to make from Blair’s ramblings… I still say the most likely scenario is that Blair was just blowing smoke… By the way: “Sorry, the following item is currently out of stock: Nampa ID… Read more »
I played my autographed salival (the last batch to be sent out) just to check and it all seems exactly the same as my other salival dvd/cd contents checked, no hidden vinyl..
or perhaps I am listening to a track that rivals third eye right now that was just copied on to the pressed/packaged cds and i aint sharing!
I also got a signed copy of salival when they first went on sale, so have 2 signed copies and 1 store bought copy.. all the same! One of my discs got stolen out of the car and i even bought another copy to ensure that I had 3 complete still.. so i have 3.5.. all the same.
Perhaps im just unlucky! I have the RIAA vinyl too.. but yeah nah.

THIS SONG IS SO GOOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Although it’s most likely an April Fool’s day joke, has anybody actually tried to rewind the first track of the cd he’s been mentioning? I have an album that has its bonus track put in exactly that way… So it’s track ZERO on that disc.

So…you put the disc in and it starts with track 1, but in order to hear track 0 you actually have to rewind or “scan” backwards? If you copied the disc into a media player (itunes, windows media player, etc) or just… Read more »
As the member of a family with a long history of extravagant april fools pranks, I luv this kinda stuff. They have a thing for the number 8 (8 Circuit Productions) or maybe listen to the numbers lady too much (8 symbolizes $$$) Overall tho I think it’s bull.
Wikipedia Pregaps Here’s some info about ‘pregaps’.
And yes, that’s exactly what you do, rewind the first track. I just tried to rip, but it didn’t get the hidden track with wmp. And not all players will work, my Harman Kardon didn’t do the job.
