Josh Freese made several tweets today suggesting that he won’t be playing on the upcoming A Perfect Circle tour (though he did play at the recent festival show):
Sad 2 report that 4 the 1st time ever Im having 2 sit out a tour with @aperfectcircle. I’ll explain more in next day on my site (if ya care)
m not stopping playing with them though. All is well. We had a great gig last night. Unfortunate timing. I’ll continue 2 be in the band.
Thx 4 the nice messages. Trust me. Im very sad about it and Im sorry that I wont b there (first time I’ve ever apologized for missing shows)
Hopefully it’s not because he’s chosen to play with Paramore instead…
Update: Jeff Freidl from Ashes Divide will be drumming in Josh’s place.
I’m pretty sure he’s going to be touring with Weezer. They have a few shows on the same dates as APC shows. I’m guessing Jeff Friedl will be a temp replacement.

Would be a shame if it were due to some other musical commitment, but I guess Josh has bills to pay like the rest of us…

Yeah, that was my thought as well. Pretty much Ashes Divide + Maynard.
Friedl or Tim Alexander I’d suggest
bring back paz!
that sucks.. freese is a badass. freidl is pretty damn good though. i’d be very sad too if i had to play in weezer instead of apc…
all too familiar blabber…one member leaves when at the gas station and as luck would have it another musician just happens to be at the same gas station and is asked to join the band to replace said former member and boom
they agree
how bout another joke where dcs pants never materialze
Ugh, dammit… This news bums me out. Won’t be the same seeing my first APC show without him. Freidl is a capable replacement though.
Blast!
Freidl’s got some cool credits under his belt I guess. I’d still prefer Tim Alexander, who appears to be trying his hand at painting while Primus tours with Jay Lane. Whatev. Not selling my ticket or anything like that.
i would be lying if i tried to say this did not bother me. freese was very impressive during the 3 shows i attended this last fall. but lets be honest, a perfect circle has been shuffling from day 1. we all know there are only 2 members that they could not get away with replacing. but i did hope it was set with josh and james iha. i have also read somewhere about josh adding his angle to new music. does this delay that process for APC? hope not

I wouldn’t think so. Josh has been practising with the band up until recently (and played with them on the weekend) so I doubt this will have any impact on how long an APC album would take to come to fruition.
Not as much of an impact as Maynard recording/tour with Tool would anyway…
FUCK!!!!!This makes me angry and sad. Weezer Shmeezer. Trying to replace Josh Freese is like trying to replace Maynard or Billy. It will still be fun but SHITTT!!!!!!

Have you heard any updates about a possible time-line for recording and a tour?
Say it aint so…
Have you heard any updates about a possible time-line for recording and a tour?
Haven’t heard anything to suggest Tool have started recording yet. I expect that following the APC tour and the grape harvest (in August I believe) that MJK + Tool will get together, finalise the tracks and then hit the studio.
Not sure at this stage how much, if any involvement Maynard has had with the writing process so far.
I’m sure Maynard must have been involved to some extent with the writing process, at the very least the guys would have been sending him the music as it is created, for him to listen to and start thinking about lyrics.
I would hate to believe that it’s as haphazard as Maynard coming in at the last second in August, trying to take in all the music at once and scramble together some lyrics before hitting the studio very shortly after!
^ I have often wanted to listen to the vocal-less tracks, especially the work-in-progress tracks, of some of the TººL material (hell ALL of it actually). Someday, it would be amazing to hear a progression from rough idea, to full instrumental demo to rough vocals to finished product of some classic TººL. Another possibility for an Extra on the Live Blu-Ray project. 8`)
This came from Joshs website my absence on the apc tour this summer posted by josh freese on 05.24.11 I’m sad to report that I will be sitting out the ‘A Perfect Circle’ tour this summer. Maybe the hardest decision I’ve ever had to make professionally and it hasn’t been easy on me. I’ve been looking forward to APC reforming for years now and the timing just couldn’t have been worse. I’d already committed the time to Weezer and I am a man of my word. As much as I hate to have to miss the APC tour there wasn’t… Read more »
I wonder if DC would be up for it? (!)
I wonder if this means there won’t be new songs on the tour
this is fucking terrible news.
i barely want to go anymore. JF is the most exciting person in APC.
i am certainly not thrilled by the news, but this isn’t tool we are talking about.
i will miss JF for sure this tour, but they have made many changes over the life of APC. they always seem to handle it well.
also isn’t this kinda the APC way? come together when they can, and fill in where needed then hit the road.
you could always tweet maynard and tell him to push back the recording of tool this fall, winter, spring so APC can tour with JF in the lineup.
Damn, I mean I guess its Josh’s problem to sort out but I really think the other guys in Weezer should at least be standup fellows and offer to find another drummer for their summer gigs to free him up… this being the first real APC tour in several years and Josh being a founding bandmember and so integral to the live show. I wonder if those other guys get the impression that he’s maybe being taken on a tour he’d rather not play. Oh well, if he chose to keep his word and play with them first then that’s… Read more »
Now this makes a lot more sense:
I take that back. THIS is how APC members escape the clutches of Maynard and Billy!!!

good 1 cheesy. 😉
the poster would have to have been paz though…..lol…
i do agree that weezer should be able to find someone else to play for them quite easily. also the agrument that he is the creator of APC drum parts, and not just playing already recorded songs like he is for weezer.
makes me think back to APC in Kentucky when I thought I would never see PAZ again. Then outta now where there she was in all her glory. never woulda guessed especially in Kentucky.
lol at the “Weazer” misspelling on APC’s site:
{(Josh Freese will be out with Weazer for the Summer) }
funny
(shouldnt country have an o)
no
weazer
sounds like a new strain of flu
i like the band but that flu
i would stay away from that
pick a band josh
we all have to put food on the table
but this is pissing off a lot of people
personally
whatever dude
whatever you gotta do to feed the family
its ok
weezer must have been a decent pay check
thats my hunch and im sticking to it
peace

good question. i didn’t think about that, but i’m sure as long as billy and maynard are there, there’s a good chance a new song will be played.

I’m guessing new songs are a go as long as they can finish them.
I doubt Josh just decided about this last week. It was most likely discussed (replacing Josh that is) before they decided to tour this summer knowing there would be scheduling conflicts.
Why should they have to when they originally found JF?
Not that I don’t agree…

I would imagine the only reason he’d be playing with Weezer over APC is due to a contractual obligation. Unless he’s being dishonest with us (which I’d like to think he’s not).
Don’t go, that will show ’em.

^ That’s just Krazy!

i bet RINGO’S free LOL. for weezer that is. 😉
meg white is perfect for weezer.

I agree, but the mindset of “hey, we just spent all this time/money finding us a touring drummer and signed a contract, and now WE should be stand up guys and do all this work again because his other band decided to return from BFE after 7 years” is ridiculous.
Although I must ask…doesn’t Weezer already have a drummer?
Who knows. Weezer are known to be assholes (or at least one in particular is…)
its the green day effect
lead singer plays guitar
lead singer wants to be more lead singer less guitar
drummer moves from drums to guitar to replace lead singer guitar
lead singer moves out front to make band better to arena audiences
$ anyone
drummer is replaced by other drummer
and
scene
I just APC in Ohio. They rocked pretty hard. awesome drumming!
Someone told me that according to Facebook James Iha might be missing the tour as well? I can’t see anything, though James isn’t on my friends list – can anyone confirm this at all?
I heard the same thing that would just break my fucking heart not to mention piss me off, kind of wish we hadn’t already bought plane tickets to denver
where are you hearing this? his facebook (http://www.facebook.com/jamesihamusic) doesn’t have anything
My source is around here somewhere………
Source….
I got an email today from a reliable source that it was posted on his fb page earlier and I haven’t heard anything since. I am sure someone else here has heard the same.
Disappointing to say the least, not sure what to think at this point
wow, i really hope it’s not true. if so, this apc tour is really falling apart. wonder if adam jones is busy this summer?
i also find it interesting that the biography section of the apc website has been updated showing a picture of billy and mjk only.
i don’t FB so i don’t know if there is a difference between public and private posts to friends. hopefully this is not true. that would be a total disappointment. 🙁
Puscifer plus one
maybe there was a huge fallout between mates
Too much wine, short man complex, conflict of interest, billy corgan love affair
Maybe a lot of bull shit
Here’s to hoping for the latter
