According to a recent post by Blair on Toolband:
Fans of the band will notice some TOOL music in the soon to be released trailer for "Captain America."
Further research by Moose revealed that the track will be 46 & 2, though as far as I can see the trailer hasn’t been released yet. Does this mean the song will appear on the official soundtrack? Have Tool sold out? Movie fans will also note that Tool featured on an early Iron Man 2 trailer, though was removed from the trailer and movie before it was released generally..
altho i dont think its selling out…it definately is weird but then again there was guitar hero…..maybe they can use the money gain from this for the ‘band’ movie
i think i remember ‘Sweat’ being used at some point in Escape from LA.
not too stoked about this….
Yea “Sweat” was actually IN the Escape from L.A. soundtrack, so I don’t see this as a big deal. Plus it’s for an actual Marvel movie, who I also like. And if it is 46 & 2 I sincerely doubt it will be in the actual soundtrack.
Sold out?
I thought Tool sold out to make a record and we all bought one. Was I misinformed?

long before we ever even knew their name
Really? Out of any film they could pick to license their music out for use in, the next mediocre summer action flick to be shat out of the Marvel movie machine? Seems like a strange choice considering how protective they are about using their music for commercial projects. Adam must be a huge Captain America fan, haha.
Maybe they’re just getting old. A movie like this surely will get them a large check. Film studios pay millions in millions for marketing.
Tool have sold out.
In other breaking news, nu metal is for plebs.
mabey it will be a 46&2 remix.
That movie looks gay.
Ironman’s suit is way better than Captain America’s.
What In The Fuck?
Is this a movie or one of those video games? Seriously? And have TOOL allowed one of their songs to adorn a soundtrack? Movie? Game? What? And if so, all members gave the ok? How much money? Curious is all
And what is ‘nu’ metal and what is a ‘pleb?’ Really…I have no fucking idea… splain please…
🙂
I have no problem with this, but I think this type of movie you should have had a Puscifer song or at the very least audio of Maynard and Mila boning over some rap beats or some other type of instramental.
^mmm Milla….yum…
I hope they get a Dutch shit-ton of money for it, and that they then use that money to whatever end they feel like. They deserve everything they get, they’re awesome, incredible. I don’t begrudge them anything, let alone making some money – especially since money is such an integral part of life. And if movie studios are gonna funnel their ridiculous amounts of money in any direction, let it go to true artists instead of the many narcissists and wankers that populate hollywood.
You can never underestimate the power of good music to elevate a movie, either.
^i doubt they will get too much money for the song. espically if it’s only in the trailer and not in the movie.
In all honesty, does it matter?
Unrelated to this post but I wanted to float it out there and see if anyone heard of this too…
I wasn’t paying full attention to the DJ, but I just heard on a local radio station here in Dallas/Fort Worth that Danny Carey did some kind of drum solo in a mall in Hollywood today… It also may or may not have involved being strapped into the kit and going upside down (like Joey Jordison and Tommy Lee have done/are doing)
YouTube and Google don’t return any results.
Did anyone else hear about this?
^ no. there going to do what ever they what to do no matter what, it’s there artistic decision.
Adam Jones is a big comic fan, he has even written X-Files/30 Days of Night crossover comics. If he is a fan then what’s the problem?? I would put my music in things I enjoy too, given the opportunity.
Though this is coming from a Marvel nerd/Tool enthusiast, so i naturally would have no quarrels with them combining forces, even in just a trailer. Can’t wait for Steve Rogers to kick some nazi ass…to Tool music? I’m in.
I have no problem with this and the only problem I have with th doing the guitar hero game is that the multi tracks never leaked
YES!
Mmmm, Milla
no aoffense to you hb, you are just the poster, and there is not alot to post these days………
but who gives a rip if they, or anyone pursues financial gain with something they created from scratch. name one person that effected in a negative way from this happening. selling out??….lol….cliches, cliches, cliches

No offense taken by me. I mentioned the sell out thing more as a discussion point rather than my personal point of view…

This is strange for Tool. This might not be selling out, but they aren’t doing this because they’re huge fans of Hollywood mainstream pop-culture. It’s only bad if you… Read more »

That movie looks shit, and there’s no Tool either! Did someone change their mind?
I’ve found this trailer posted as early as March. Sounds like a tall story to me.

Its not on the trailer, or the soundtrack… bah
Official website Cant see any familiar names in the credits. If you click on “Movie News” at the bottom left had corner, the trailer is “Captain America: The First Avenger Trailer 1” so we can assume that there will be another released soon. This would be the best place to see any updates, yeah? Update- I know that Wikipedia is full of crap at times but read here “In June 2011, Buena Vista Records announced the details for the soundtrack release of Captain America: The First Avenger. The album includes the original score by Alan Silvestri, as well as the… Read more »
that is the best right there.
thank you

Movie looks lame.  Another strange choice by the band. I’m old and cynical. Â
This movie is about American’s killing Nazis. I am all for it. Talk about a huge evolutionary step forward.
Of course the song’s not in the trailer, it’s not out yet..

found this last night

heh heh…blair….heh heh…no wonder everyone is in a tizzy…consider the source ya’ll…anyway, I dont’ think I would see this movie and certainly not PAY to see this movie even if Maynard hand delivered the soundtrack to my frontdoor…captain america….gimme a break…. 🙂
^ Where’s this tizzy you speak of?

I also made a guitar backing track out of these 🙂 (shameless self-promotion, but oh well): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YOxVmlq2u-k
@ GaryS – I dug that backing track, TY. As someone pointed out in the comments, bass and drum tracks appear to be every so slightly off. But this is what I would love to hear more of. Isolated instrumental tracks in all different combos. First and foremost just about every TººL song with JUST Danny. It’s such a revelation to hear how much he brings to the table in this band. But honestly, it would be interesting to hear all parts isolated, or in different combinations. Being a bass player, I’d love to have a couple jam tracks minus… Read more »
Seeing as it’s summer I’ll probably get round to doing some more, including ones of Schism and Parabol/Parabola. Glad you dug it 🙂
Maynard gave the final word on “selling out” in Hooker with a Penis.
As another comics geek / Tool fan, I would love to see more Tool music in movies. Man on Fire has a shit-ton of NIN and it is fu*$ing sweet. Another thought, the story of Captain America involves a scientific alteration of his body’s chemical structure – not entirely unlike the desired metaphysical evolution in the song 46 & 2 if you believe that the song represents climbing from our present level of 46 chromosomes to a higher spiritual level complete with 48. Adam has previously worked in the movies / special effects, obviously has an affinity for comic books, a lot… Read more »

No problems with this whatsoever. Between Adam’s involvement with Stan Winston Studios and associated folks this is right in their ballpark. Not to mention that this, Hulk, Thor, and the Iron Man movies are leading up to a killer Avengers flick. just found this trailer for Iron Man 2: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=rRGZuTrmCBQ This footage never made it to the public outside of SDCC, the TOOL is about 3 mins in. No idea why anyone here would care, our boys are getting paid for product they created. That’s why I don’t have a problem with paying $70 for tix to see them, I’ve… Read more »
This
And this
What else I find funny is that, in terms of selling out, I don’t think I’ve seen anyone mention Rage Against The Machine writing a song for the Godzilla movie/soundtrack. Wouldn’t that be even more selling out?
Shit, I mean, they actually mention the director of the movie in the song.
