An excellent article called An Oral History of the First Lollapalooza arrived in my inbox today, and while reading it I stumbled across this interesting quote from Lollapalooza co-founder and former Tool manager Ted Gardner:
GARDNER: It wasn’t like, "It’s a girl band, so put them on." A lot of people threw that accusation around. When I was managing Tool, I rang the agent for Lilith Fair and submitted Tool, and they said, "No, it’s all women." And I said, "Well, isn’t that sexist?"
The article isn’t really about Tool at all, but is quite interesting none the less, and features a range of quotes from the artists involved in the first Lollapalooza tour including Henry Rollins (Rollins Band), Richard Patrick (NIN/Filter), Vernon Reid (Living Colour), Perry Farrell (Janes Addiction), Gibby Haynes (Butthole Surfers) and more.
Great article Hellboy. Lest we forget that the BDO and the other travelling festivals that followed here sprang from an idea by Perry Farrell. As much as people can become a bit precious about seeing bands at a festival as opposed to a single performance, we are very fortunate to be able to sample so much, via the festival, than would otherwise be feasible. With the glut of festivals its easy to get jaded and forget how special some of them can be.
Today in socal we’ve got LA Rising. hoping that some of the guys from t00l show up during the rage set. :O)
People don’t realize that sexism is displayed in equal measure among both genders, but only one of the genders gets any blame.

Can’t see Living Colour playing on a BDO any time soon, however I did see them back in the 90s and they were one of the best live acts I’ve ever witnessed,
an oldie but a goodie from those days. 😉
I think maybe you don’t take into account all the examples of evil personified on the female spectrum. I’m merely pointing out the obvious, but i don’t have my hat in the ring for any gender on a cosmic level.
Consciousness is beyond such formalities.
