Intronaut Tour Diary

Intronaut have been keeping a tour diary of the current Tool Tour, 2012 and have posted some humorous and insightful entries on the LA Weekly website (don’t worry it’s spoiler free):

1/14/12, 1:00 pm – We arrive at Reno Events Center and find a parking spot for our Dodge Sprinter van amidst Tool’s six tour buses and six big rig trucks. This is the first of many hilarious examples of disproportion we would experience throughout the tour. Tool’s production manager takes one look at our van and asks us if we’d be interested in having them carry our equipment in one of their trucks, since it takes up approximately 1/100th of one truck. We now get about one million more miles to each gallon of diesel. Thanks, Tool!

Not a huge article, but an interesting one worth reading!

Pretty cool read 🙂 I was fairly impressed with them at the Vegas show. My only complaint is I didn’t care so much for the vocalist, but musically these guys are awesome. The drummer rocks it hard.

It’s neat to see from their perspective what it’s like to open for Tool and be on tour like this.

How fitting that photo is. That is a visual version of how I’d review their most recent record. Prehistoricisms showed so much promise for amazing things to come from this band, but Valley of Smoke packs all the wallop of Richard Simmons aerobicizing in a field of daisies wearing a tutu.

That’s as may be… but they were quite enjoyable opening for Tool. I dug it.

Live they still kill it, but the new material kills me.

I have yet to fully listen to any of their recorded works. But judging from what I heard, I will give them a good shot.
By the way, any change of opinion on Heritage as of now?

By the way, any change of opinion on Heritage as of now? It’s 64 degrees here today, which totally sucks because we need snow badly, but since it’s pleasant out, I decided to take advantage. I threw Prehistoricisms in the earhole and listened to the whole thing. It’s fantastic. Such a primal rawness to it and it dips in and out of the sludge so well. I recommend that… Read more »

Really? I cant get enough of valley of smoke. It is a different album from their past stuff. All of their songs before valley of smoke were HEAVY on the screams. Like they don’t have a single song where they actually sing, its all metal screams. Then in valley of smoke its some screams, and some alice in chain type lighter vocals, with some amazing prog-metal instrumentals. Overall the best part of this band is the instrumentals. And I can see why Tool chose them to be the opening band.

What drugs was hellboy on when he decided to change the site? Change is good on most occasions but it looks like one big mess. It just doesn’t make sense that the rumor mill is on the left side and all the content is squashed in the bottom corner somewhere and that you ahve to scroll down to check the news. If it ain’t broke why fix it?

I think the website’s good, hellboy. We’ll all get used to the changes eventually. Do whatever you want to do, please.

On a more relevant note, here’s some footage of the Intronaut drummer playing Lateralus with Tool:

Also, I think Intronaut’s newest album is great. I do like Prehistoricisms more, but I still dig Valley of Smoke.

I’m not the least bit surprised that VoS appeals to you more, being that the vocals are so mellow. That album was an astounding disappointment to me. Every time it picked up steam, BAM! they come in with the overly melodic weaksauce vocal parts that are so hooky that they don’t even sound like they belong in the song at all. That album got perma-shelved after about 3 listens and I have never spun it since. This affected my opinion not at all, but the general concensus on metal forums was largely a disappointed reaction to this album. I don’t… Read more »
