In news just at hand, A Perfect Circle has just been included in the 2013 Soundwave Festival lineup. They’ll be joining the likes of Metallica, Tomahawk, Anthrax and Red Fang on a two week tour down under:

Metallica, Linkin Park, Blink-182, A Perfect Circle, The Offspring, Paramore, Garbage, Tomahawk, Stone Sour, Kyuss Lives, Anthrax, Sum 41, Dragonforce, All Time Low, Flogging Molly, Ghost, Duff McKagan’s Loaded, Motion City Soundtrack, Lawrence Arms, Kingdom Of Sorrow, Fozzy, Sleeping With Sirens, Cancer Bats, Madball, Vision of Disorder, Pierce the Veil, Periphery, Shai Halud, Of Mice & Men, Miss May I, Danko Jones, Woe Is Me, The Wonder Years, While She Sleeps, Such Gold, Lucero, Six Feet Under, Deaf Havana, Red Fang, Chunk! No Captain Chunk! and Memphis May Fire!

Here are the dates for the festival:

  • Saturday 23rd February – Brisbane
  • Sunday 24th February – Sydney
  • Friday 1st March – Melbourne

  • Monday 4th March – Perth

I also expect there will be some side shows!
Update: AJ from Soundwave has tweeted that there will be no Perfect Circle (or Metallica) sideshows.

Glad for you Aussies on here.

Before anyone flips their shit, I’m guessing by the dates that this shouldn’t interfere with any Tool writing/recording.

Totally agree.

On a side note, this APC stuff came from nowhere, huh? Didn’t expect anything from them in a long time.

Kyuss Lives! will only play if Nick Oliveri’s probation and anger management classes don’t interfere in his ability to travel…

Is Twiggy back in the band or did you just grab a random pic? I think he is still in Manson’s band…..

At least it gives me some new music to check out; haven’t heard of Duff (beer) McKagans’ Loaded yet…

Twiggy’s bass playing makes the 2nd album for me.

More shit news. The last newsletter and Danny on Children of Saturn gave me a little hope that Tool was finally going to take front and center, where they belong. It is August ppl. Wine harvest is in a month and the band is still writing. No mention of recording mind you. And now we find out that APC is going to tour Australia in February 2013? More of the same bullshit. Enjoy a set full of “Emotive” Australia.

It is what it is. Just more bad news. I bet Josh won’t even be behind the kit. Probably Friedl again. You would think Maynard could just put his entire musical focus behind Tool one last time. Same sorry situation.

Why does he keep tagging puscifer and not Billy or James on Instagram? I guess since Friedl and McJunkins already stepped might as well bring in Carina and Matt to fill in the rest.

I agree with M0gg. If it doesn’t have any impact on Tool’s new album it’s kind of good news. At the same time though, it’s still a bit lame especially if Josh Freese isn’t drumming for APC. Josh’s drumming is a large reason the band was so great and he played on all the albums and did all the touring except for the last string of dates they did where he had scheduling problems w/Weezer. The APC stuff is seeming more and more like a quick cash-in every time they dig it up and go do a tour. They haven’t… Read more »

Yea, I totally get that hellboy. Tool, APC, etc… don’t really tour down there very much. I would definitely see them in the same situation as well.

I wouldn’t be surprised if this tour corresponds with a some kind of release or debut of new material.

I generally agree with what he’s saying – that it’s kind of bullshit.

Tomahawk are great live btw.

By and Down was very meh for me when I saw them, maybe a studio version would change my mind.

And for what its worth, the worst thing about the recent APC tour was the setlist. Freidl did a damn good job that I didn’t even care that Josh wasn’t there. (No that doesnt mean I think hes better)

Bring back Josh! And +1 to that studio version of By & Down, they should just release a single or EP on iTunes while they spend the next five years figuring out whether they want to make an album or not…

Freidl did a fucking outstanding job filling in for Freese on the last run, musically nothing was really lost in his absence I thought. But shit man, he should be playing with Maynard & Billy if his schedule doesn’t keep him from doing so. Those guys are the trio that really makes APC, to me.

Agreed – Freese is the man H-Boy. Seen him perform w/MJ many times. BTW, long time reader, first time poster. Thanks for all the great up to date news you provide. Have to say all the whining about every little good non-tool thing that happens gets old on this site (ie APC shows down under). That’s awesome they are playing down there. Everything in its right place and at the right time. Tool will be amazing when it happens, that much better given the wait. To those concerned, read the latest newsletter if you have not already done so. Me… Read more »

I’m the one who asked him why he kept tagging Carina if it was APC, he actually replied with “Why indeed”. Mcjunkins also chimed in with, “I thought she was Australian?”

Someone else asked about Billy but he didn’t respond.

It is terrific news. APC hasn’t played here in 8 years and I’m still holding on to the hope that a Puscifer show may materialize somewhere. Why not Adelaide just to be different? We are the pre-eminent wine state and Maynard is a known advocate of one of our premium brands.

Maynard I live just down the road from Penfolds and you are welcome to a bed!

This is great news! Really excited to hear Maynard and the gang (whoever that might be) are heading down under. I guess no side shows means they won’t be crossing the ditch for an NZ show. Oh well, will def be attending the Melbourne show – which may just be home by then anyway. Hard to believe it will be almost 9 years exactly since I last caught these guys in Wellington.

Rest of the line up isn’t to shabby either, Soundwave does it again.

Yeah, I meant Josh is missing out on an APC tour once again. I hope its just a matter of a jammed schedule and not a sign that Maynard & Billy have chosen Jeff Friedl to replace him permanently.

even josh wasn’t always that good. he was average on mer de nom but amazing on the next album. people should give jeff more credit. and people shouldn’t bitch about the emotive setlist. sure its their worst album, but last year was easily their best tour ever.

on a side note…how come all the festivals in the US aren’t like this??? i don’t go to US fests cause they’re 90% indi-rock and pop. i would kill to have a sound wave or sonisphere.
