This morning I logged into Toolband to discover that the July 2012 Tool newsletter has been released. I haven’t had a chance to read it right through, but it’s the fourth and final part of the Tales From The Loft series, presumably covering the time when 10,000 Days was recorded. Check it out!
Looking forward to NOSE BLEED RIFFS
Not a bad read.
Good read. Really appreciate that Blair writes these stories. I’m saving them on my computer since I’m very sure I’ll want to read them again. If you’re reading this: Thank you, Blair!
You’re welcome!
Or…um… I imagine that would be what Blair would say.
So what I got from that is.. that the new album is going to take a really long time.. its probably going to be long(er) than the last albums and Ill get a nosebleed from listening to Adam’s guitar riffs.
and all this time I thought the nose bleeds were from doing 2 eight balls a day, it was just the music I was listening to!
Glad I read this one. They are pretty far along. They might actually get this thing recorded this year. I can’t help but feel that this album might end up being special. It is entirely possible that my perspective is skewed by the simple fact that I REALLY want to hear new Tool. But I keep going back to that simple Jam from earlier this year, with Justin chugging out that thick bass, and mention of “Nose Bleed Riffs”. Danny mentioning earlier how heavy some of the things Adam has come in with are. Danny mentioning that Justin has been… Read more »
And that’s why Danny is not with his (then) wife.
Great read. I really enjoyed the whole collection of “Tales From The Loft.” Not sure why i guess some thought he was lying so badly. They didnt seem that unbelievable. I took it as a great and reliable first hand account. It was nice how he even finished with a tid bit on the upcoming album. Nose bleed, why not, ill take two. All in all, i thought it was rad he shared some old personal stories. Thanks.
^ +1 I dug that whole series. Thanks. I am very stoked at the thought of Tool working on new material, and I’m sure it will be worth the wait.
I remember my very first listen to 10KD like it was 6 years ago. How time flies.
I’ve been diagnosed and treated for cancer since TOOL made a record! LOL!
Fun read. The “nose bleed riffs” tag reminds me of a friend who said one of the things he liked about Tool was how their sound progressed based on their environment. Starting with a “club” sound and evolving to an “arena” sound, to me nose bleeds refer to the toppa most of the poppa most. Or it could be a coke reference.
^ I like the interpretation, um damn I forgot who it was on here, gave me.
“Riffs so complex/heavy they’ll make your nose bleed”
It was in the Tool Army thread.
That was a good newsletter. Rosetta Stoned is one of my favorite Tool tracks…
Sounds like they are eager to complete this album. It’s interesting that blair mentioned the idea of finishing the album outside the Loft, because i was thinking Maynard must have asked at one point if they’d like to come to Arizona and do some work there….might not be a bad idea.
The remote location they are talking about I suspect would be either Arizona, or Justin’s farm.
Nah, it’s either Area 51 or here:

I immediately thought of Arizona. Justin has a farm here in the states?
I presume it’s in the US.
So… who’s this Justin ya’ll are talkin’ ’bout?
Justin Bieber. He’s the bee’s knees.
Ahhh… I remember Justin Bieber. He had such a deep soulful voice, so full of emotion, and backed by one of the funkiest mariachis this side of the Rio Del Jade. I believed he died way back in 1972. Overdosed on glue. Man was addicted to it. One of music’s greatest tragedies. Left behind a wife and 13 mistresses. And I imagine there are quite a few children that shared half a helix with the man. Music was never the same after he died, and I imagine it will only go downhill from here.
^We should close down the Internet cause they’ll never be a better post than that.
Remote area is interesting. Zeppelin did it. Besides making all the music in one spot(The Loft), i think its a cool idea. Hey, if they lock themselves in and dont leave till its done, sounds good to me.
The last paragraph/anecdote could be read as a oblique reference to a double album. I highly doubt it, but thought I’d stir that pot anyway.
My nose is bleeding just thinking about their new album. Of course, it could just be from the coke.

Nose bleed riffs

My band opened for Deftones before they got signed. Cocky sons of bitches.
You’re the dude who got it on with chino?
My band played with Snow Patrol in ’97. I now find myself with a dull job and looking after my kids while they tour arenas. Tight. I think Nose Bleed Riffs is a ruse and new album will be primarily acoustic.
I’m gonna reveal my uber nerdage here but just fyi…
The two best versions of the “New Jam” are…
-1/31/12 Uncasville, CT – it’s the longest/best version clocking in at about 5 minutes.
-2/4/12 Charlotte, NC – best quality version and has a deeper bass intro which is pretty reminiscent of Pink Floyd’s “One of These Days” the opening track from their album “Meddle”
