I’m calling Maynard to once again perform “Passenger” with Deftones. Would be badass.
This has been discussed in the forums, and the bottom line is that this has had several opportunities to happen (Big Day Out back in 2011 for example) and it hasn’t. Chances are it will never happen.
What does the ‘new’ mean?
Newly added to the festival. Black Sabbath and Slipknot were announced some time ago.
I would imagine that there will be some side shows, but they won’t be preformed by TOOL, but rather Puscifer or much less likely A Perfect Circle. I think this will be another way for Maynard to once again promote Puscifer, not that I’m complaining, I like a lot of Puscifers material, however much like everyone else here I would prefer some more TOOL dates, or better yet: that new album we have(n’t) heard so much about.
at least they are still a band as of May 2013! woohoo!!
I think you’re wrong there. The only reason Puscifer and APC play shows “together” is because 3/4 of the band is shared. If there are sideshows I expect they would be legitimate Tool ones.
great, but there are no more tickets, as far as i know, haha
but i reserved a couple via my japanese friend
Lollapalooza 2011 aswell, sheeeezuz!
^Above inline (sorta) with the whole “passeneger” bit. Coachella could be a slot for TOOL too?
I hope you’re right, and that I’m wrong. Its just that the last time TOOL played a festival, Puscifer showed up as well and then did side shows not TOOL. It seemed as though TOOL, were brought out to help promote Pusicfer at the Rivers edge show.
Yeah, but Puscifer was already touring then. So unless Puscifer is going to be doing a Japan tour then, I doubt they’re going to show up.
Yeah, quite different circumstances in my opinion. Getting Tool, APC or Puscifer a couple of states away is not really comparable to getting them to Japan.
What are the odds that the upcoming big news for us fans if the dates of the new album tour?
I really don’t think they’ve recorded anything, so virtually nil.
To all the naysayers: yes, this is not as good as news of a new album but this confirms that at least Tool will actually be doing something as a band, with like…you know…music and stuff. lol
Yes, it could be a lot worse, but try telling that to the glass half empty crowd!
Im all for them doing anything together. As stated before by Blair, when together, surely something will be getting done. And although id love to see them do lollapalooza again, because im in chicago, which would kick ass, i have come to realize their festival shows really do not compare to their solo shows. Tho solo shows give them the extra room needed, to put on their light and visual show, and extra segues and music flexibility that makes it their own. The segues really help with spacing and induce a hypnotic/meditation vibe i really enjoy. And in my opinion… Read more »
Sweet. Any news is good news.
Cool, but I think I would rather spend $500 on this than thousands on a vacation to Japan:

^ Hi St1nkie. Miss you on the forums, you crazy bastard you.
I think this is a pretty weird and unexpected move, and have no idea of the motivation behind it, although there are some interesting theories up there. I just hope whatever else they are working on, the primary focus is on delivering the new material, no matter how long it finally takes.
Album totally written record jan – feb released May easily.
^^ I’m with this guy. I mean back in March we heard from Blair that the album was about half written. Also, its not like all of these songs are being born from nothing the day they started writing earlier this year, we all know that not all their material makes whatever current album they are working on. (Wings for Marie riff being played in 2002 for example). My gut is that the music is done, save some going over with fine tooth combs by the Adam, Justin and Danny and tweaking here and there, and they are just waiting… Read more »
wont be out this year. but i really think new album before this Japan gig…
Realistically, nothing is recorded yet. From the day they walk into the studio it’d take a good 6 months to see the finished product on the shelves in record stores. The only exception is if they go down a digital release path, and we all know how they feel about that…

What if all the references from Blair about going into uncharted territory and trying something different (see Rance Q Spartley) means that Tool would release this album in some kind of digital format? What if all the artwork is in video art work or something cool that only Adam Jones and company could come up with? Calling it!!!
I do believe something new could be on the horizon for sure. Tool always pushes the envelope. And at some point, a think an interview with danny maybe, there was talk of a higher caliber sound release. Its a possibility. That said, Tool is old school, which i like, and things change, meaning doubtful. But who knows.
“Yeah this is Maynard.”
“Oh, hey, Jimbo! Danny here. You know? The big guy in your band? Yeah, that guy!”
“Okay, hey, what’s up?”
“Sooo… We’re going to Japan next year!”
*hangs up*
How does that joke make any sense?
You had to be there I guess
MJK aint the person holding this up, gotta be Adam. Maybe another Salival then? 10k vinyl gone quiet…
Were you there?
I think Davvda is probably right. I believe that is pretty close to how the convo likely went with Maynard lol. Something you guys should take into account though…Tool hasn’t been back to Japan since 2007 and due to their lack of popularity in that country as a headliner (barely able to fill 500-1000 capacity venues there), being part of a festival lineup like this means they can actually play Japan and make some money. If they go on their own they likely break even or lose money doing it. This show is really great for Japanese fans of the… Read more »
Not gonna happen. We’re lucky to get 9 songs out of him the way it is.
