Blair has posted the August 2013 Tool newsletter, and it discusses his recent wisdom tooth removal as well as some movement in the Loft:
The first thing that I noticed was that some of the band’s equipment had been moved back to their usual places, meaning that the guys had probably delivered the goods to MJK, and were now back in their ‘normal’ writing session mode. Then I saw further evidence on a new Dry-Erase board that was filled with indecipherable scrawls written with a red marker. Studying this the best I could, I realized that this indeed was a curveball of the likes of Feller or Blylevin. But then again, a better baseball pitch analogy might be that of a changeup such as thrown by Martinez, Verlander or Glavine.
No solid news as to what the curveball may be, however I suspect there’s a few hints in there for those who look for that kind of thing. It does however, sound very much to me like Maynard does have his hands on the new tracks as hinted in his “recent” interview, and the newsletter does appear to suggest something happening in September.
Hopefully these September dates marked on the calendar are ‘recording studio’ dates and not just more writing dates etc. Record in September, do the artwork, book some tour dates, master the album, do some interviews and before you know it’s May 2014 and your new album has arrived. Too easy!
A curveball? I’m guessing another mini-tour. But that might not be such a curveball.
I mean, Blair flipped to the month of September and said “Not Again!!” So I’m assuming they’re going a mini-tour (again).
No chance they’d be a doing a tour in September, considering it is current September now (in this part of the world anyway).
I think “not again” is a reference to more writing but I hope you’re right or it even means something else.

It seems like Blair was connecting whatever he saw on the whiteboard with whatever he saw on the calender, which is a bit perplexing. If the calender was the only clue, or if the calendar was referring to a separate piece of news, then i would have guessed something like studio dates, mini tour, or some other break from writing.

maynard probably needs a month to figure out his vocals, then they’ll hash the rest out together prior to studio. September is probably a slow month for the rest of the guys?

Rynne just posted a photo of Levi (Danny’s dog) in Mexico, so it’s a safe bet they’re holidaying there at the moment.
